Contract, Part-time
Job description

Fixed-term contract until 31 March 2023

Part-time, 21 hours per week

Live Well with Hearing Loss is a three year project funded by the Welsh Government under the Sustainable Social Services Grant. The project has three strands in which recruiting, training and supporting volunteers is an essential element.

Through the Volunteer Led Befriending Service we will offer support to people with deafness and hearing loss who are dealing with feelings of isolation, loneliness and empower them to improve their wellbeing and access services within their local community. This will be delivered in two ways:

  • ‘Time for Me’ – at home volunteer led befriending service. 1 hour a week for 10 sessions to be a companion to those with hearing loss, tinnitus or D/deafness who are looking for someone to meet with.
  • ‘Out & About’ – volunteer led befriending service to support those with hearing loss, tinnitus or deafness to become more independent and active. Volunteers support for 1 hour a week for 10 sessions to support independence when accessing social groups.

Communication is a basic human need. Yet most of us know someone who struggles to communicate through hearing loss. It can cause substantial harm to friendships, family relationships, confidence, employability, mental health and life chances.

Action on Hearing Loss (formerly the RNID) is the UK’s largest charity for the 11 million people in the UK who confront deafness, tinnitus and hearing loss every day. Established in 1911, we help people to take control of their lives and live the life they choose, removing the barriers standing in their way. We give people support and care, develop technology and treatments, and campaign for equality.

We champion the value of difference and equality and celebrate our diverse and inclusive workforce. We actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from BAME backgrounds or who are deaf or hard of hearing. With almost 20% of our employees having a disability we proudly hold Disability Confident Leader status and guarantee an interview for disabled applicants meeting the minimum essential criteria.

Interview Date: 29th June 2020
