Joe’s Buddy Line is seeking a new organisational leader; a hands-on Chief Officer who can build on the great work already undertaken by our Trustees to deliver high impact mental health support services to schools and Universities; currently in London and the South East, but with ambitions to grow across England and Wales.
Joe Lyons was a caring son, brother, a wonderful friend and a talented, award-winning Radio Producer. Known as “Producer Joe”, he became Senior Producer of the Roman Kemp Breakfast Show at Capital Radio. Very sadly in August 2020 Joe passed away in totally unexpected circumstances at just 31 years of age.
During Joe’s life he brought a cheeky spirit and constant laughter to all those that met him. His selflessness and commitment to helping others touched so many, and in loving memory and as a legacy to Joe, his friends and family set up Joe's Buddy Line in January 2021.
We are now looking for a resilient, driven and inspirational individual to provide energy, strategic vision and operational management for our small and growing charity.
The successful candidate will bring a track record of effectively overseeing the day to day service delivery for a small charity, prudent financial management and an innovative approach to source and secure new opportunities for the Charity.
It is essential that the post holder must also be able to help us transition from a predominantly volunteer led charity to a vibrant fully sustainable organisation with salaried staff.
If you are dynamic and inspiring Chief Officer then we’d love you to join us to help achieve our ambitious aims; it’s a fantastic opportunity to make a huge impact on children and young people’s mental health.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to chat informally with one of our Trustees before applying.
Application deadline: Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis until a suitable candidate is chosen.
Interviews: Interviews will be conducted at our Office in Leatherhead, Surrey at the earliest opportunity.
To apply, Please email your CV; including contact details for 2 referees; with a cover letter which clearly details your suitability for the role.
Joe’s Buddy Line is committed to developing, maintaining and encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our workforce, and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative of all sections of society, and for each trustee, employee and volunteer to feel respected and able to give their best.
An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.
ABOUT GET FURTHER
One in three students leave school each year without a pass in GCSE English and maths - this rises to over one in two for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Get Further exists to change this. Our charity has an award-winning tuition programme that helps students from disadvantaged backgrounds in further education to pass GCSEs in English or maths. It is an exciting time to join University of Manchester Students’ Union as we supercharge our international student engagement work. We believe that all students should have the opportunity to thrive during their time at the University. International students, often because of their intersecting identities, are more likely to face barriers that prevent them from making the most of university. We are committed to systematically identifying and dismantling these barriers to involvement with all the university has to offer.
We’re looking for someone who has excellent project management, partnership building and senior stakeholder engagement skills to lead on a new area of work. The postholder will be responsible for developing an insight led, student needs centred and operationally achievable international student engagement strategy. You need to ensure that an effective understanding and appreciation of inclusion practice is weaved throughout this work. It is essential that you take a proactive approach to develop your own knowledge of inclusive practice and use this to develop the knowledge and skills of colleagues across the Union in engaging International Students. There is a rough timeline outlined the responsibilities section for this role, and once appointed, we expect you to adjust and tweak as necessary.
This role is for you if you are passionate about international students in higher education. If you’re someone who likes taking a methodical approach but is also willing to experiment while the strategy is signed off, essentially taking an action learning approach to this, you will enjoy the level of flexibility and freedom in this role. If you’re someone who needs more structure than what is provided in this job description about what is required, unfortunately, you aren’t the right person. We’re looking for someone who is able to deliver this work independently and act autonomously, demonstrating their own work. We also want the postholder to be collaborative and work in partnership across the organisation, the university and wider partners. You will need to demonstrate how you’ll strike a balance between those expectations. If this sounds appealing, we want to hear from you.
The Students’ Union and the International Society merged in autumn 2023. The International Society is a student facing brand that encompasses the community building aspect of what we’d like to do as part of a broader engagement strategy. We have good levels of engagement from international students in societies and volunteering and those that run for election to be our full-time student officers. We’re not too sure about whether international students are getting what they need in terms of information and guidance on student life, whether there are any differences in educational outcomes and we think student jobs and employment will be important. We’ve got really good teams who do some of this work already, so you’ll be adding to services rather than creating new ones. This means you’ll really be working at the cutting edge of international student engagement work. How exciting!
This is a hybrid role (40% to 80% on site) depending on what’s needed to deliver outcomes in the role. There is good support around our senior leaders from the team, external coaching is available to anyone who requests it, and there are well developed insight, communications, events, student activities and representation functions. This is why it’s the right time for this role to join our organisation and do this work.

Job Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated Director of Training to take over strategic leadership of the Reprezent Training Programme. Our programme has provided life-changing opportunities to thousands of previous trainees, both within and outside of the media industry, and this role would give you the chance to put your own unique spin on our established and well-loved brand.
Who We Are
Reprezent is a not-for-profit social enterprise and specialist youth development organisation. At the helm of our operation is Reprezent Radio, a dynamic youth-led community radio station based in South London. Since 2010 the station’s hallmark has been empowering young voices and championing the narratives of diverse and underrepresented communities, and as a result many of our beneficiaries are those deemed ‘hardest-to-reach’ (young black South Londoners, early school leavers, second generation immigrants).
Our unique training model combines in-person training courses with work experience placements at the station, resulting in a cohesive programme of entry-to-advanced level training provision and an active waiting list of over two thousand people.
