This is a hugely exciting opportunity to join Gloucester Cathedral as it enters a key period of development. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and highly skilled individual to oversee our small but busy fundraising function, helping to develop and implement our Fundraising Strategy and deliver Cathedral’s Development Plan. You will oversee the depth and breadth of our Fundraising and Development activities, which includes the day-to-day running of the team, delivering our ambitious In Tune Campaign, leading on the development of future capital campaigns and looking after a portfolio of high value donors. You will also play an instrumental role in further developing new relationships with major donors.

We’re looking for a high performing team player with great communication skills, adaptability and an innovative approach to achieving ambitious fundraising targets of circ. £1.5m per year. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team you will help to deliver the Cathedral’s strategic vision and will be responsible for ensuring that our welcome values are lived out on a daily basis through the way that we engage with donors, supporters and partners.

You’ll be working closely with teams across the Cathedral - including our Music Team, Clergy, and Learning & Participation team - so the ability to form positive relationships with various stakeholders is crucial.

The ideal candidate will have:

· At least five years’ experience of working in a heritage or visitor attractions leadership role, with a proven track record of securing and growing income, delivering large scale fundraising campaigns and working with major donors

· Experience of line-managing and leading a staff team at a senior level

· Excellent time management and the ability to balance numerous priorities and deadlines

Our national work: Through an ‘open source’ online community platform, we provide all the resources necessary to set up a perinatal peer support initiative. Working with commissioners and providers, Parents 1st UK also provides consultancy and workshops to help build new perinatal peer support initiatives in communities.

Our local work: Parents 1st Essex currently operates in South and North Essex, delivering perinatal peer support to parents, through 1-1 or group support. Peer supporters engage and develop trusting relationships with parents during pregnancy, continue support through birth and the first few months afterwards.

Alongside this, Parents 1st UK also leads the Essex Peer to Parent Network, a peer support collaborative that aims to develop a hub of good practice across Essex. Responsible for winning new business and retaining existing contracts to achieve financial and growth targets, this is a pivotal role at Kinship. We’re looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Senior Development Manager to identify new funding opportunities and develop high quality funding proposals that generate income for CSE’s work in line with CSE’s strategy and objectives. The successful candidate will nurture new and existing partner, client, and funder relationships.

Specific responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

• Work effectively with others to develop funding proposals for CSE projects.
• Lead the response to competitive Invitations to Tender, which require a specific and timely response to a client’s brief and the ability to highlight and sell relevant CSE strengths and expertise.
• Support our development process by giving direction, supervision, and support to all contributing staff.
• Work with delivery teams and colleagues to set project budgets, costing work accurately using CSE’s development and financial tools.

You will also be expected to get up to speed quickly with various aspects of the Centre’s business functions, including finance, IT and marketing.

The post-holder will oversee income generation from grant-making organisations and ensure timely reporting to funders.

• Drive growth of Trusts and Foundations income especially at the five- and six-figure level, with a particular view to supporting unrestricted income and major projects in the organisation’s pipeline.
• Proactively manage a personal portfolio of Trusts and Foundations, regularly meeting and engaging with prospective funders to pitch proposals and check-in around expectations. 
• Liaise with key internal stakeholders to develop accurate, compelling funding applications in line with deadlines set by funders.

• Drive the Trusts and Foundations prospecting process and increase the range of prospects approached for support, utilising prospect research tools and securing introductions from our network.

• Understanding and experience of performing arts landscape, key figures, organisations and funders.

We are looking for a dynamic and driven Business Development Manager who can spearhead our fundraising initiatives, lead the development of new projects and support organisational change to facilitate the growth of our services.

You will be part of the Senior Leadership Team, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organisation to maximise the positive impact that we have on our member’s lives.  Starting with a strong foundation to build upon, you will lead on fundraising activities and service development to support our exciting new strategy.

About the role

As the Business Development Manager, you’ll be part of the Senior Leadership Team.  You’ll do everything to make sure that we have the capacity and resources we need to deliver on our strategy and ensure that every person with a learning disability can live life to the full.  You will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and sustainability of the organisation helping us to build upon our strong reputation and existing relationships.

About You

We are seeking a driven and determined candidate with proven experience in fundraising or business development ideally gained from the voluntary sector.  Our ideal candidate has an enthusiastic attitude as well as experience in developing and growing services.  We are looking for someone who aligns with our mission and we ask that all our staff live our organisation’s values and demonstrate them in their day-to-day work. 

You will need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable you to build authentic relationships with members, donors, partners and commissioners.  You will also need experience in leading change within an organisation, supporting our team on our journey of growth and sustainability.

You will need to be approachable, organised and have excellent communication skills with good IT skills to be able to excel in fundraising.

Duties Include:

Fundraising and project development:

· Lead the implementation of Bexley Mencap’s Fundraising Strategy; reviewing existing fundraising strategies, identifying opportunities for development and introducing innovative strategies to achieve fundraising goals. 

· Research and pursue new funding opportunities; including grants, legacies and social enterprise/earned income opportunities.

· Develop compelling cases for support, tailoring funding bids and applications accordingly

· Develop and maintain funding pipelines, providing reports to the Trustee Board

· Support and line manage part-time member of the team (may be required to support more staff if the role grows/adapts)

· Support the Chief Executive in extending and strengthening relationships with existing partners and developing new relationships

· Ensure all fundraising initiatives adhere to best practices, ethical guidelines and legislation

· Identify and evaluate opportunities for new projects and initiatives aligned with the mission and objectives of the organisation.

· Lead the development of project proposals, including conducting needs assessments, defining project scopes, and establishing timelines and budgets.

· Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful project implementation and delivery.

Organisational Change and Growth:

· Work closely with the senior leadership team to identify areas for organisational growth and improvement.

· Champion initiatives aimed at enhancing organisational capacity, efficiency, and sustainability.

· Support change management processes to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

· Coach, motivate and guide staff and volunteers

Other:

· To be familiar with and work within the organisation and the service’s values policies and procedures, maintaining records and reports accordingly.

· To be a part of the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the wider team in the absence of other management.

· To attend and participate in team meetings, supervisions, appraisals and training as required
