Job description

We are a small but rapidly growing charity at a pivotal moment in our evolution. We are looking for an exceptional person to take on the newly created role of Director of Operations. The successful candidate will work closely with our CEO and her team to help to take the charity to the heights that we know it is capable of achieving.

The ideal candidate will have excellent team management and leadership skills, will be dynamic, strategic in approach, with a strong emphasis on attention to detail, the ability to think laterally and on their feet, and a passion for improving care for people at the end of life.

About the Charity:

Launched in May 2018, the Anne Robson Trust believes that ‘no one deserves to die alone’. Everyone should have the support to prepare for the end of life, and the comfort and companionship of another human being as they die.

Our mission is to support people facing the end of life, whether their own or that of someone dear.

We do this in a number of ways:

  • Working closely with NHS Trusts to help them set up and embed teams of volunteers to support patients who are dying, their families and NHS staff
  • We have recently launched a telephone Helpline to provide support to people who are dying, and those who are caring for them.
  • We run virtual workshops and training groups to encourage people to address the subject of death and dying, and make sure they have plans in place.
  • We have produced online resources such as a series of podcasts hosted by our Patron, Bill Turnbull, and our My Wishes Checklist, which is available to download via our website.

Purpose of the role

  • Responsibility for day to day operational management
  • Get involved in long-term business planning at managerial and board level including creating 3-year strategies for charity as a whole, as well as individual strategies for each workstream of charitable delivery
  • Analyse the performance of support functions for departments such as HR and make recommendations for improvement
  • Develop operational objectives for all areas of service delivery
  • Work with project managers to develop budgets for charitable projects
  • Prepare management accounts, forecasts and cashflow statements
  • Oversee charity governance and compliance
  • Act as Data Protection Officer for the charity
  • Oversee procurement
