You’ll be primarily responsible for supporting people to identify and meet their self-defined mental health needs and aspirations, to understand the range of options available to them, to support them emotionally, and to connect them with appropriate community resources and services.

The post involves working directly with service users, volunteers, and in partnership with colleagues across different sectors in Camden. You’ll be working collaboratively alongside partners and statutory providers to adapt the service offers to meet changing local needs. You will be contributing to the transformation of community mental health services across Camden.

The role requires someone who: is passionate about people being at the heart of their individual mental health recovery; is an excellent communicator – both orally and written; and enjoys working within a diverse and growing team. We are seeking additional staff to join our experienced and committed teams within our Complex Needs Service in Westminster.  You will be in a specialist role designed to work with people with complex support needs, relating to mental health, multiple physical health needs, poly-substance use and offending.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Volunteer Development Officer (Early Help Outreach) to be involved in supporting and developing the volunteer aspects of the Befriending project in the Westminster area and to ensure that the organisation reaches and supports as many families as possible, primarily those aged 0-16 years and referred by the Westminster Early Help service as step down families. In addition, you will support the Outreach team supporting families of those aged 0-5 years.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Team Leader on all aspects of volunteer recruitment, such as ensuring there is a continual bank of active volunteers, publicising vacancies and organising and conducting interviews. You will also be responsible for supporting the delivery of volunteer training and providing one to one support and group supervision as appropriate. In addition, the role will include matching of volunteers to families, assessing the needs of families, supporting with home visits, keeping accurate records and completing reports. The post holder will also support holiday activities with wider teams and outreach support.

You will need to have experience of volunteer recruitment and training as well as experience of managing volunteers. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the role of volunteers in community projects. We are looking for someone with experience of family support work and of effectively managing safeguarding issues. Comprehensive knowledge of local agencies, networks, and partnerships within the area of family support is required.

About the Project

Our Nightlight Service is proud to provide urgent support, crisis intervention and emotional support to people experiencing a mental health crisis in Hertfordshire as an alternative to statutory pathways.

We provide support to adults across Hertfordshire 7 days a week, 365 days a year through our helpline, crisis centres, crisis cafes and a weekend Crisis House. We aim to provide a safe space for people in crisis to talk and feel supported, be listened to without judgement, access relevant support with problem solving and facilitate access to external services when necessary.

Service Objectives

The objectives of Hertfordshire Mind Network’s (HMN) Nightlight Crisis services are:

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing a mental health crisis in Hertfordshire
• To increase early access to help for people experiencing a mental health crisis in Hertfordshire, by providing a clear and effective pathway to services provided by HMN and other third sector and statutory providers.
• To contribute to an improvement in an individual’s mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To provide an alternative pathway to people in distress and crisis, to support better outcomes and reduce the demand on statutory crisis services and emergency services.

About the Role:

The Mental Health A&E Link worker will work closely with individuals in a mental health crisis currently in A&E, by using a person-centred approach to ensure that everyone is supported with dignity and respect.

Key Responsibilities

• To provide a consistent presence in A&E for individuals with mental health needs to access, as well as partner agencies, including A&E staff, integrated discharge teams, mental health liaison teams, CGL, Bounce Back, to refer into.
• To facilitate a clear and easily accessible pathway into the wider Nightlight Crisis Alternative services for individuals, to support timely A&E discharge, as an alternative to statutory crisis intervention, or as a supplement to wider care and treatment plans.
• To provide immediate information and advice about managing wellbeing, reducing risk and onward signposting and referral into wider HMN services and VCFSE organisations.
• To undertake assessments of needs and risk, devising crisis and risk management plans, and liaising with services, to facilitate referrals daily.
• To develop sound and extensive knowledge of local resources to support in enabling appropriate referrals where necessary.
• To promote and raise the profile of Nightlight and other HMN services within the hospital to ensure greater community awareness of crisis alternative provision.
• To participate in daily check in meetings with Nightlight at 17:45 and 21:00 through Microsoft Teams, communicating appropriately and sharing information with staff following assessment and onward referral into the service.
• To develop relationships across both Bounce Back and Nightlight teams
• To ensure that a collaborative approach is used, with effective communication links developed with external professional NHS services and to work as an effective member of any multi-disciplinary team. This will require stringent relationships.
• To record accurately and timely tasks done; utilising our client management system to capture the outputs and outcomes achieved, to monitor service impact.
• To represent Herts Mind Network at external meetings, and network locally to develop contacts, services and raise Herts Mind Network’s profile.
• To encourage a culture of continuous performance improvement at both an individual and service level.
• To build a service that is flexible and adaptable to changing requirements.
• To work in partnership with Mind in West Essex and Mind in Mid Herts to ensure that the crisis alternatives pathway model is consistent across the Hertfordshire and West Essex ICS.

Assistant Support and Outreach Worker (Roma Speaking)

Big Issue Changing Lives CIC is looking for an Support and Outreach Assistant to support the direct the direct delivery of services to individuals participating in Big Issue enterprises, including selling the Big Issue magazine.  The core of the role is facilitating access for members of our Roma Communities to the Hand Up Service and other local services, resources and networks required to address the barriers they are facing to moving forwards out of poverty. Where local services and resources are not available you will also support the Outreach Team with the delivery of information, guidance and some direct interventions, such as training sessions, directly.

This is self-starter role in which you’ll be responsible for connecting with potential service users within the Roma community, introducing the service to them, sharing information from our Hand Up plus services and supporting them to engage with the core Hand Up service. You’ll be working within a small team of Outreach workers and will work to maintain a set of Service Standards which help maintain the quality of the service nationally.

The role is highly flexible and no two days are the same. You’ll bring your own experience and knowledge to the role, as well as your ability to speak Romanian. We will support you to build on that through an ongoing training and development programme which aims to ensure all Hand Up Service Team members have up to date, relevant, knowledge in key areas including housing, benefits, debt, immigration and more. In the course of a day, you’ll usually be working with service users across multiple of these issues and supporting engagement with a wide range of external agencies such as health services, local authorities, charities and more, to get access to services for those you are supporting. 

Your main roles and responsibilities will be:

• Undertake phone and in person outreach to introduce the Hand Up service to Roma Big Issues vendors 
• Delivery of direct intervention to Roma vendors using guidance and resources provided 
• Join meetings with Roma Vendors and Outreach Workers to support with action planning and provision of support and guidance 
• Support with translation and interpretation within your local team to enable accessibility of the service for Roma vendors 
• Support the local Hand Up Service to build current knowledge of local and national agencies that can support Roma vendors 
• Support the organisation and delivery with Roma Vendors of 1-2-1 and group training sessions and drop-ins
• Ensure that your work meets service standards and targets and complete surveys with vendors as required
• Involving Roma service users in the service design and delivery as local and national opportunities arise 
• Adhere to all required policies and procedures including with regards to safeguarding, lone and safe working, case work management and expenses and finances

You need to be:

You are someone with experience of or a commitment to developing a person centred approach in working with people with complex needs and challenges. You will be a collegiate player, and someone able to see beyond the barriers that people with disabilities experience everyday. Your values and working practice will align with those of the charity to maximise the independence of those you are woking with, to enable their ability to make decisions about the types of service they are in reciept of and to ensure that your approach is both professional and sustainable.

Key Responsibilities of this role

Your primary responsibilities will include:

• To work as part of a diverse and experienced team providing personalised support, advice and advocacy to people living independently or in supported accomodation.
• To apply a collegiate approach to deliver strengths based support that maximises independence, knowledge and confidence of those using our services.
• To provide a key point of reference for information and support to those using the services and professionals and carers dependent on it.
• To work independently across the boroughs we operate in, with people in their homes or in accessing support and resources across the community.

These two new posts will be responsible for supporting the successful initiation, deployment and development of our early intervention and prevention service for autistic and neurodiverse young people and their families across the whole charity.

Key Accountabilities

To work with all the charity’s projects with a focus on providing support to Autistic and Neurodiverse children and young people so that:

a) the local community significantly benefits from a new specialised and responsive frontline service offering high quality advice and intervention

b) you enhance local resources that better wraparound the needs of the autistic community

c) you help build a sustainable model of delivery that directly addresses Autism

The Role

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and experienced support worker to join our Young People Support Team based in Hackney. You will provide client directed, person centred support to help young people achieve personal goals and aspirations for independent living, training, employment, and education. You will assist and collaborate with young people to create and carry out a support plan designed around their needs and aspirations, providing information and inspiration, practical support, innovation, and encouragement. You will have an individual caseload but will work alongside a team of Support Workers, with similar client groups, working to the same principles and goals.

You will have experience of working in support, supported housing or advice services. You will have experience of supporting young people to develop aspirations and form healthy relationships. You have knowledge of the issues confronting young people and the needs of vulnerable homeless people in general, with a sound knowledge of safeguarding and risk assessments. You love to work in a client- centred way and plan your work and deadlines to get the best for your clients. You are flexible, creative, and offer a personalised approach to your clients. You are a team-player, and you are passionate about driving your own performance and development at work.
