About the Organisation
Established in 2006, The organisation is a UK-based, international charity dedicated to bringing solar power to rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
Currently, there are nearly 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa living without electricity. When the sun goes down at night, families are reliant on dangerous and expensive forms of lighting, such as candles and kerosene lamps.
The organisation is pioneering innovative enterprise programmes that tackle poverty and climate change by providing access to clean, safe solar light to homes, clinics, and schools. To date, they have distributed over 2.3 million lights, directly impacting over 11 million people. Families across the continent can now rely on safe, renewable solar lights as the sun sets, but there is still a long way to go to achieve universal access to energy, and we are stepping up our efforts to ensure communities otherwise left behind will have access to solar energy, creating instant sustainable change for people and the planet.

About Reprieve
Reprieve is a UK charity founded in 1999. Reprieve uses strategic interventions to end the use of the death penalty globally, and to end extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”.
Reprieve works with the most disenfranchised people in society, as it is in their cases that human rights are most swiftly jettisoned and the rule of law is cast aside. Thus, Reprieve promotes and protects the rights of those facing the death penalty and those who are the victims of extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”, with a focus on arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial executions.
Reprieve’s main office is in London, UK. Reprieve also supports full-time Fellows, who work as lawyers, investigators and campaigners in the countries in which we work. We work closely with a number of partner organisations in jurisdictions all over the world, who provide access to clients, expertise, knowledge and guidance on specific issues or regions. We work in cooperation with relevant government officials, individual lawyers and human rights defenders, as well as individual, corporate and foundation funders to further the cause of our shared goals.
About this role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Reprieve team as our Head of Digital and Mass Engagement covering parental leave. With the support of the Deputy Director of Development, you will lead our fast‐moving and creative Mass Engagement Team, who power fundraising across multiple channels. They do this by engaging and building a community of supporters and running campaigns that inspire people to support our work.
As a dynamic leader, you will oversee this area of our work by delivering and implementing Reprieve’s recently launched Mass Engagement strategy. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, as you lead digital campaigns that mobilise Reprieve’s existing community (currently about 95,000 people in the UK and 9,000 in the US) while inspiring others to join the movement.
Our Mass Engagement work is at a pivotal moment. Reprieve’s income from the general public through regular and individual giving, generated largely by email fundraising, has experienced a drop, with many of our supporters understandably reassessing their charitable giving in the face of the economic crisis.
In response to this new context, Reprieve is launching its new strategy and investing creatively to ensure sustained engagement and growth of our incredible community of supporters. Joining the team at this key moment, you will be energised to bring your skills, experience and knowledge to implement and deliver these plans, testing opportunities to diversify and grow the programme.
Salary, contract and location
The annual salary is £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance. This is an approximately 9 month fixed-term contract to cover parental leave, beginning in mid-October.
Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 2 days a week from the London office and the rest of the week from home.
Full details and how to apply
Please review the job description for full details on the role. Applicants should complete an application form and submit it following the instructions in the job description. The deadline for applications is 23 June 2024. Applicants must have the current right to work in the UK.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

About Us
Our client is the central charity which supports the federation of 46 independent Trusts working for nature’s recovery across the UK, Alderney and the Isle of Man. The Trusts’ vision is of a thriving natural world, with abundant wildlife and healthy natural habitats playing a valued role in addressing the climate and ecological emergencies, and everyone inspired to take action for nature’s recovery.
Collectively, The Trusts have more than 900,000 members, employ 3,500 staff, look after over 2,300 nature reserves, operate 123 visitor and education centres and own 29 working farms. The role of the trust is to ensure a strong voice for wildlife at a UK level and to provide strategic leadership, support and development for The Trusts. They provide shared expertise in areas such as climate change, digital fundraising, nature-based solutions, policy and safeguarding. They facilitate UK-wide communities of practice to share learning and replicate successful approaches so that together they are more than the sum of their parts. They support the individual Trusts to be a strong force for nature in their local areas and to work together to achieve even greater impact as a collective.
The Trusts are on a mission to bring about a people-powered nature and climate recovery by empowering people to take meaningful action for nature, and to create an inclusive society where nature matters to everyone, everywhere. They are ambitious in their desire not just to slow, but to reverse the declines in nature.
About You
They are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience in business planning or rural estate management with a passion for nature and entrepreneurial spirit to support the acquisition and management planning of new nature reserves in Wales which help restore Celtic rainforest and other important habitats.
Nature conservation is changing, in the face of the biodiversity and climate crises no longer is it sufficient to protect existing habitats but instead we must look to restore nature at scale in order to ensure it’s survival. To meet this challenge, the nature reserves of the future must also adapt; new sites must become resilient both ecologically and financially. This means utilising a wide variety of funding streams and carefully considering restoration interventions, all whilst making these sites as engaging and accessible as possible. This post will work alongside the Rainforest Restoration Programme team to ensure that new rainforest sites support nature recovery and improve the resilience of the Trusts in Wales. By showcasing these new sites, they can act as powerful advocacy tools that support nature beyond their own boundaries thereby maximising the positive impact of the programme for nature and for communities.
The Atlantic Rainforest Restoration Programme is a £38.9 million, 100-year programme working in a long-term partnership with Aviva. Native to the British Isles, temperate rainforest is an incredibly rare and biodiverse habitat, rarer even, than its tropical counterpart. This programme is going beyond traditional habitat restoration and creating new rainforests on eligible sites across the bioclimatic envelope (the area along our Atlantic coastline with the specific conditions needed for rainforest to thrive).
You will need to understand the political, economic and social context that the Welsh and UK nature conservation sector operates within. With that understanding, you will be able to use your direct experience of funding and investment as well as business planning to help the Trusts in Wales create a network of new nature reserves with sustainable business models.
You will be highly organised – prioritising time and workload effectively. You will be able to utilise ICT efficiently and effectively. Your personable approach will enable you to work with all, building collaborations and partnerships across Trusts and with many different stakeholders.
Your knowledge of woodland ecology and creation together with relevant regulatory processes, grant options and contracting methods will be essential to the successful delivery of Celtic Rainforest creation on these sites.
The Trusts value passion, respect, trust, integrity, pragmatic activism and strength in diversity. Whilst they are passionate in promoting their aims, they are not judgemental and are inclusive. They particularly encourage applications from people who are underrepresented within their sector, including people from minority backgrounds and people with disabilities. They are committed to creating a movement that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities.
Our client take our Safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously. Please refer to the documents section to read the commitment statement
As a Disability Confident employer, they are committed to offering an interview to anyone with a disability that meets all the essential criteria for the post. Please let them know if you require any adjustments to make their recruitment process more accessible.
The Role
FARA is looking to launch the charity's new fundraising activities programme and is looking for an experienced fundraising and individual giving manager to lead the creation and launch of this.
It is an exciting time for the charity, which helps disadvantaged children, young people, adults and their families in Romania. Building on the initial income opportunities and strategy development work done by fundraising consultants, you will be joining a marketing function with ambitious plans to transform our communications. You will work alongside colleagues across the whole organisation to deliver this work.
The Fundraising and Individual Giving Manager will be responsible for:
- Creating systems, structures, activities and messages designed to launch and grow income streams, predominantly from individual givers and community partners taking the charity’s fundraising income to six figures over three years.
- Using data to inform Individual Giving campaigns, creating powerful messaging to acquire, retain and upgrade donors through digital and offline methods.
- Creating and implementing methods of attracting and retaining people and community partners to donate and fundraise, ensuring a steady and growing stream of income.
- Identify and optimise any emerging and new fundraising opportunities to help grow income for the organisation
The Person
Are you entrepreneurial, innovative, personable, and collaborative, with experience developing and delivering fundraising programmes? Are you keen to get your teeth into a new challenge and create something from scratch?
The role requires a candidate with a strong background in building relationships and identifying and developing new fundraising messages, campaigns and activities from scratch. This is not a case of picking up a mature programme and running with it (although the organisation does have a small baseline of donors who have been giving for many years). The opportunity is all about creating, testing and learning – to diversify income sources at FARA, utilising the extensive network of supporters it has gained through its 40 charity shops across London.
You will need to be proficient in digital platforms, with experience in building a digital-focused approach to supporter acquisition and donor development. You will play a crucial role in nurturing relationships with individual supporters to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children, young people and adults in Romania.
The post-holder will need experience developing creative giving programmes and be excited by the prospect of pursuing new opportunities for the organisation by engaging with existing supporters—many of whom might only have ‘gifted’ the charity via donations of pre-loved clothes and other items to FARA shops.
Why FARA
FARA funds, develops, and manages social support services across Romania for vulnerable children, children with learning disabilities and complex needs, youth at risk, adults with learning disabilities, and community-based programmes, tackling poverty through education for Romania’s poorest families. FARA, established in 1991 following the fall of communism, has grown to be one of the biggest and most established NGO’s in Romania, working to building a stronger future for Romania.
This is an exciting new role for the organisation and a wonderful opportunity for the right individual to shape an emerging fundraising programme. You will be joining a relatively new marketing team that is working to build and develop this wider function for FARA to support the shops' network and fundraising work. Working with an innovative and creative team, you will be well-supported to test, learn, and apply to achieve success.
The role is permanent and full-time, and offers the opportunity to work flexibly from the offices in Teddington or Angel, and from home.
If you think you could be the right person to fulfil the exciting responsibilities of this role, apply here, or get in contact Charlie or Leanne at Charity Horizons for more information.
Please note: If you would like to submit an application or express your interest in an alternative format such as audio or video upload, or require any adaptations for your initial engagement with us, please contact either Charlie or Leanne who will be happy to advise on this.
Please also be aware that we use anonymous recruitment methods when submitting shortlists for all our roles and we only work with organisations that are happy to engage with us in this way.
Charity Horizons is an equal opportunities employer and as such actively promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We welcome and encourage applications from all suitable candidates irrespective of age, disability, hidden disability, race or national origin, religion or belief, gender, gender expression, political view, sexual orientation, medical condition and pregnancy.
