About the role

This is your chance to make your mark as Design and Brand Manager at the Francis Crick Institute one of the world’s most iconic biomedical research centres, home to over 1,500 leading scientists and a large public gallery space with a rolling programme of exhibitions and events.

For 12 months, you’ll be the creative heartbeat of our Digital and Creative team, setting the standard for design excellence across everything from public exhibitions and scientific reports to internal signage and branded campaigns.

This is a dynamic, hands-on role that sits at the creative core of the Crick’s communications. You’ll collaborate closely with our marketing team to shape visual identities for flagship exhibitions and events, lead design projects for branded materials like brochures and reports, and create impactful internal signage and communications.

Central to the role is refreshing and rolling out our brand identity, ensuring it remains bold, relevant, and consistent across all touchpoints. You’ll manage our in-house studio, oversee science illustration and printing services, and build a trusted network of freelancers and agencies to expand our creative capacity. With a deep understanding of how to tailor design for diverse audiences, from scientific peers to the public, you’ll be the go-to expert for visual strategy and execution across the Crick.

The role is ideal for someone with a strong background in design and brand, with a creative flare and is able to identify and seize upon strategic opportunities. It would suit an experienced middleweight designer, ready to step up to a more senior role, or a senior designer looking to take on a new challenge.

What you will be doing

As a Design and Brand Manager at the Crick, you will:

• Produce on-brand, accessible and high-quality design and creative materials which meet the needs of the Crick’s varied audiences.

• Manage the Crick’s visual brand identity – including rolling out our newly refreshed brand identity – ensuring it stays fresh, relevant and consistent.

• Develop and implement internal processes for teams across the Crick.

• Manage design projects from concept to completion.

• Oversee the work of agencies and freelancers who are producing design and creative assets, from initial briefing to obtaining final sign-off.

• Produce and maintain a contact base of agencies and suppliers who can produce high-quality design work in accordance with our brand guidelines

• Be the Crick’s go-to for best practice in creativity and design, advising teams across the Crick with their creative output.

• Horizon scan for latest updates and innovations in design tools and practice in order to formulate and incorporate best-practice into our processes and templates.

• Continually evaluate our design and creative output, seeking out, absorbing and incorporating feedback into our outputs and processes.

About you

You will have:

• Demonstrable experience at middleweight or senior designer level – in-house, freelance or agency;*

• Strong understanding of design and brand principles – typography, colour, layout etc.

• A portfolio of original, engaging and creative ideas developed within a professional environment for successful brand design projects across various media that demonstrate an eye for detail, creativity and experience of art direction;*

• Demonstrable experience of managing, championing and maintaining a consistent brand identity within a professional environment;*

• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;

• Experience of managing creative production workflows and sign-off processes;

• Expert skills in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator;*

• Strong skills in Adobe Premiere Pro;

• Strong sense of aesthetics and ability to think creatively;

• An understanding of how scientific research is disseminated through conferences, papers etc.; (Desirable)

Role Overview:
The Talent Set is working with a fantastic charity who are looking for a Communications Manager to cover a 12-month FTC.

This is a pivotal position combining strategy, digital innovation, and impactful storytelling. Working collaboratively across the organisation, the postholder will raise awareness, expand audience reach, showcase impact, and strengthen stakeholder engagement.

You’ll lead a small, high-performing team to deliver engaging campaigns and content that amplify voices from lived experience and highlight the organisation’s work. The role also involves managing relationships with agencies and suppliers, overseeing content production, and ensuring consistent, high-quality communications across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the planning and delivery of campaigns, content, and digital engagement.
• Oversee social media channels, website, newsletters, blogs, and other content streams.
• Commission and edit copy, video, photography, and infographics.
• Ensure brand consistency and advocate for inclusive, impactful storytelling.
• Line manage two team members, supporting their professional development.
• Maintain relationships with external agencies, suppliers, and creative partners.
• Support the senior leadership team on strategic communications and engagement initiatives.
• Provide internal communications advice, training, and facilitation to colleagues.
• Oversee reporting on digital performance, presenting insights to senior leadership and trustees.

Person Specification:

• Proven experience leading small communications or marketing teams.
• Strong track record in planning and delivering projects and campaigns.
• Skilled in social media management, content production, and copywriting.
• Confident in using data and analytics to improve engagement and reach.
• Knowledge of digital engagement, SEO, and content management systems.
• Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Experience with CRM systems and campaign planning.
• Confident communicator and presenter.
• Experience in the charity or health sector.
• Familiarity with tools such as Mailchimp, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, or Google Analytics 4.
• Working knowledge of social and search listening tools.
• At least two years’ experience in a similar role.

About the role:

The Digital Campaigns Officer role aims to increase the effectiveness of Friends of the Earth’s online actions to engage new supporters and mobilise activists. You will be responsible for putting together the majority of our online actions around the most important environmental justice issues at local, national and international level.

Located in the Campaign Activism team there is a strong emphasis on delivery, as well as proactive implementation of new ideas, creation of reports, and monitoring effectiveness.

Through testing, reporting and applying best practice, you will be helping create online actions that drive new supporters to Friends of the Earth and - ultimately - help us win our campaigns.

Working closely with the digital, marketing, and campaigns teams, you'll optimize our online actions for campaign success. This means making sure actions are supporter-centric, clearly communicating results, and flexibility in supporting your colleagues and channel owners.

About the team:

The Digital Campaigns Officer is part of the Campaign Activism team, which works to make sure that our campaigns work effectively with our activist network, our international network, and makes best use of our supporter base for campaigning. You’ll also be working with a wide range of teams and campaigns across the organisation, including the marketing and digital teams.

About you:

We’re looking for someone who has some understanding of online campaigning, can pick up digital tools quickly, and who is comfortable writing high-quality copy sometimes to tight deadlines. You’ll be working across a variety of different campaigns, so will need to be a well-organised communicator and pick up ideas quickly.

This charity empowers children, young people and adults from disadvantaged communities with the literacy skills they need to succeed. They work directly with young people and their families, with the 5,000 schools in these communities, with nurseries, prisons, YOIs and through their teams leading community literacy programmes in 20 places in the UK facing the biggest literacy and poverty challenges. Literacy is a vital element of action against poverty and their work changes people's life stories.

Salary: £50,000 to £55,000

As Head of Digital, your core responsibilities will include:

• Lead the development and implementation of the charity's digital transformation strategy
• Provide digital leadership and expertise across the organisation
• Oversee the development of digital platforms to enhance brand and mission delivery
• Lead the delivery of key digital projects on time and within budget
• Enhance data analysis and CRM capabilities, developing reporting dashboards, generating data-driven insights and making recommendations to optimise performance and growth

• Strong track record of managing agency partnerships
• Expertise in influencing public opinion or behaviour through communications and marketing
• Experience leading and motivating a digital team
• Success in delivering consumer-facing, digital-first campaigns
• Skilled in managing relationships with senior external stakeholders
• Excellent cross-departmental collaboration and communication skills
