Purpose of the role 

We are looking for enthusiastic consultant ready to work in a fast-paced organisation who can easily grasp and communicate impact to the different audiences across our work for fair finance. The consultant will be an exceptional writer across different platforms and a strategic thinker, with a solid understanding of our audiences and the best ways to share our story with them. They will join up three components of our finance work – transparency, consumer voice and our Fair Digital Finance Accelerator – with a core focus on our consumer voice profile. They will love the opportunities that come with working in an entrepreneurial environment, with a drive to deliver excellence and aptly raise our profile across core moments part of our fair finance agenda  - launches of our latest findings and research, events and campaigns.

Key Responsibilities 

Content generation  

• Draft compelling content for the different audiences of our fair finance work and for a broad suite of communications, including for our website, social media, materials and externally placed opinion pieces. Both this and the Leadership responsibility are core focus areas for this position.

Leadership  

• Develop the Communications Strategy for our Fair Finance work, creating informed and compelling messages and strategic KPIs which help deliver on programme and organisational goals and resonate with audiences.

• Provide strategic oversight to the design, delivery and evaluation of core global finance moments (such as research, events and campaigns).

• Navigate any communications issues relating to this work.

Driving efficiency and continuous improvement  

• Use and develop efficient systems and processes to help improve how we plan and evaluate communications for this work, and to pre-plan to mitigate issues. 

• Be diligent in monitoring the results of our communications performance, to proactively share outcomes with the team and help to improve outcomes. 

Using relationships for change 

• Build relationships with our Members, partners and donors to share their story, make them feel valued and ensure they promote our initiatives.

• Collaborate and work closely with the Fair Finance Team, Global Communications Coordinator and Head of Communications and Membership.

Deliverables

Typical deliverables during the tenure of this post will include:

• Content generation for long/short form content placed on our website and social media.

• Content (primarily opinion pieces) developed, pitched and placed on external partner platforms and/or the media.

• Media placement where relevant, including through press releases, letters to editors and op-eds.

• Strategic Communications Strategy for Finance, and project specific communications plans, which shows understanding of our audiences, messages and with goals aligning to organisational KPIs.

• Finance Communications Address book developed across core partners, based on strong relationships developed.

• Materials and/or audio visual content developed (working with external suppliers to do so) as and when there is a case for it.

• Salary: GBP 60,000-65,000 depending on experience (the range is aligned to London cost of living and would be adjusted according to the appointee's location)
• Location: Flexible. But must be prepared to work at least four hours per day 1300 – 1700 Coordinated Universal Time.  Location in London or Berlin may be an advantage.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is seeking a Head of Communications to lead our high-performing communications team. The successful candidate will lead strategic, high-impact external communications across the organisation. They will work closely with our global team across 30 countries involved in research and analysis. They will bring talent, enthusiasm, knowledge and experience. This role currently manages a team of five and reports to the Executive Director. The communications team is tasked to ensure strategic and effective media, social media, and delivery of our digital platform to drive change.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic communications: Lead the strategic evolution of our global communications as a critical component of our strategies to make change happen. Drive impact by building strategic media and digital outreach that amplifies the work of ourselves and allies, and influences key audiences. Work across our global team to develop a shared understanding of grand strategy, key audiences, the fast-changing context, and how communications can drive positive change. With the management team, set the organisation’s communications strategy and ensure we have the right skills, knowledge, and connections to deliver it. Collaborate with regional and thematic leads to ensure our communications strategies help deliver the human rights impact our programmes seek with allies.
• Lead the communications team: Support a strong team, nurturing their skills to inspire effective and high-impact communications, with an emphasis on digital first. Ensure the work of the team is expertly planned and executed within budget and meets donor requirements. Deliver our performance management system throughout the year to ensure support, well-being, and accountability. Work with the Senior Management Team to manage strategic and operational opportunities and risks.
• Drive and execute innovative, advocacy-oriented communications: Work with senior management, regional and thematic teams to drive a dynamic approach to communications, alongside spotting proactive and reactive opportunities, building higher-level relationships with journalists and partners, and developing tactical approaches. Play an active role in executing impactful, advocacy-oriented communications strategies for key products and events.
• Digital action platform and technology: Work with the Web Content and Digital Officer to manage the development of the Resource Centre’s leading multi-functional digital platform, and our substantial data as compelling evidence. Develop an understanding of the organisation’s target audiences and ensure we deliver features that effectively support them to effectively organise and present their research data and promote human rights in business.
• Programme design and fundraising: Work with our development (fundraising) team and programme leads to ensure communications, and digital technology work is built into project design and budget, and that funders’ information needs are well-served.

Key competencies and attributes

Strategic communication: At least 5 years’ experience delivering top class communications and expert understanding of how strategic communications deliver change. Demonstrable experience in strategy design and execution. Sharp news sense and editorial judgement; strong grasp of the power of social media to make change happen; and a global perspective to communications.

People manager: At least 3 years’ experience in line management. Experience in nurturing and sustaining a high performing team that thrives in a diverse, and global context. Demonstrable success in supporting project teams to deploy communications strategically for impact.

Project manager: Track record of leading and/or implementing complex communications projects including planning, execution, and evaluation. Demonstratable success planning communications for a busy organisation working closely with allies.

Digital technology & data: Experience of design and delivery of website, digital tools, and data to make change happen. Experience of working with developers to manage and maintain a website.

Human rights, and economic justice expertise: Familiarity with social justice or human rights issues and a willingness to keep up to date. Experience communicating economic justice and human rights issues desirable.

Team player: Experience of, and commitment to, working in high-performing teams that are highly collaborative and focused on outcomes. Experience of working with colleagues remotely, and in multicultural and diverse working environments desirable.

Networking: Track record of developing strategic relationships to enhance communications and advocacy efforts, e.g. civil society partners, consultants, journalists, opinion-formers. Experience building relationships of trust and joint action with allied organisations is strongly desirable.

Languages: Must be fluent in English. Additionally, French, German, Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian language skills would also be an asset (all languages of our digital action platform).

What we want from you

We're on the lookout for a Data Insight Analyst who's ready to dive deep into the world of data-driven decision-making.

If you're someone who gets a kick out of using data to tackle real-world challenges and shape organisational strategy, then you might just be the perfect fit for our team. You'll need to be comfortable working with large datasets, flexing your data mining and customer profiling muscles.

Experience-wise, we're looking for someone who's no stranger to analytics software like Tableau, Faststats, or similar tools. When it comes to databases, you should be fluent in SQL and have an ability to optimise the use of data from across various sources.

First-hand experience with CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge would be advantageous, especially in the charity sector, and if you're curious about data science or even have experience in this area, even better.

Apart from excellent analytical skills, you’ll have an inquisitive mind and love solving problems. We are looking for a strong communicator, confident at delivering your analysis outcomes whether that’s to a room of colleagues or chatting with stakeholders, your ability to convey complex insights in a clear and compelling way will be highly valued.

Our role is to sustain a thriving British furnishing industry with a talented workforce delivering high quality products, which supports those in need from within its ranks and those who have served it in the past. We achieve this through three pillars of activity – education, excellence and welfare.

We are seeking an organised and driven individual for a maternity cover to lead on our education and training programme, which is facilitating the growth of a talented workforce by inspiring, connecting and retaining the next generation. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to make a real impact, addressing the skills gap in the industry, working alongside young people.

This is a varied role with a significant focus on events and project management, including special events, as well as engagement activities to raise awareness of career opportunities in the industry. This includes driving forward our new 'My Furniture Career' website aimed at 15 – 24-year-olds and attending careers fairs. This role will also involve working with specialist education providers to support the provision of industry specific education and training.

A successful applicant will have demonstratable experience of organising and delivering large scale events, timely and cost-effective project management and financial reporting. You will be able to work independently and with a high level of attention to detail and used to prioritising a complex workload. Experience of working in the sector or in a previous educational role is not required.

Job Purpose

• To be the focal point for implementing all Education and Training activity within the Company, and to report back to the Education and Training Committee to maximise its reach and effectiveness.
• To implement several large-scale national events engaging young people, industry and specialist education providers.
• Oversee and steer the activity around a new website to engage young people with possible careers in the industry, ensuring growing engagement with young people and job posters.
• To administer and deliver several small grant programmes which support furniture and furniture students or those working with said students.

Key Responsibilities

Events

• Young Furniture Makers Exhibition - To plan, organise and deliver the annual one-day exhibition showcasing the best new talent to industry. Securing event sponsorship and working with sponsors during the organisation process to ensure positive relationships. Working with over 70 exhibitors, multiple sponsors and external suppliers to ensure a successful event.
• Young Professional Industry Engagement event programme - To plan, organise and deliver the annual three-week programme of CPD visits for a selected group of participants to industry hosts across the UK. Working with participants and over 20 organisations to schedule and deliver the programme.
• Furniture Making T-Level conference – Working with the Chair of the Education and Training Committee and selected members to plan, organise and implement a one-day conference on the practicalities of overing the Furniture T-Level in an educational setting.
• Organise and attend several regional career fairs and trade shows to promote the education and training initiatives and encourage young people to consider a career in furniture and furnishings.
• Plan and organise the content of an Education and Training slot at the annual Furniture Makers’ HR Conference to highlight key events and programmes.
• Ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion is considered in all aspects of Education and Training events.

Grants

• Administer a small annual grants scheme supporting colleges and universities which provide specialist furniture and furnishing education courses.
• Manage a travel bursary scheme to support exhibitors attending the Young Furniture Makers Exhibition.

Website

• Administer the jobs board featured on the My Furniture Career website, screening and approving posted vacancies as well as liaising with those posting jobs to confirm the status of the vacancy, sharing data once the vacancy expires and collecting feedback data from the poster.
• To work with the Digital Officer to agree a schedule of content for the website and its associated social media.
• Work with the Communications Manager and Digital Officer to promote the use of the website by the targeted audience group as well as the HR community to post vacancies to the jobs board.
• Produce a quarterly report detailing the usage and any highlights regarding the website.
• Report any technical issues to the website provider and liaise with them to fix the issue.

Reporting

• Quarterly reporting on activity and budget to the Education and Training Committee.
• Supporting the Committee Chair by setting up Committee meetings and taking minutes.
• Supporting the Committee Chair with any other administration as necessary related to the Committee. 
• Assist with any ad hoc administration as necessary related to the FIESTA Committee.

Miscellaneous

• Assisting the Education and Training Committee Chair with any administration in regard to the Masters Certificate Scheme.
• Send quarterly feedback surveys mentoring participants and collect the data for reporting purposes.
• Work with the Communications and Marketing Manager to promote Education and Training events.
• Keep the Education and Training budget up to date and process all invoices in a timely manner.
• Report back to all event sponsors after any Education and Training sponsored event to keep sponsors updated and aware of the events successes.

Personal Attributes and Skills

• Success in delivering projects and large events against demanding targets and deadlines.
• Excellent administrative track record, with experience with an educational and/or charitable organisation.
• Highly motivated, dynamic, self-starter able to work largely on own initiative.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is the home of the Chelsea Pensioners. It has a rich history and provides supported accommodation, residential and nursing care for some 300 retired soldiers. An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Royal Hospital Chelsea where we are seeking an exceptional individual to join the Chelsea Pensioners Veterans’ Outreach  (CPVO ) team in a new role as a Veterans’ Outreach Officer. 

 The CPVO programme is aimed at extending an offer to older service veterans, inviting them to engage with our In Pensioners and enjoy the sense of community and comradeship that is at the heart of the Chelsea Pensioner community. While most of our programme activity is centred on the Royal Hospital Chelsea estate in London, the programme seeks to expand in reach to other UK regions where there is a sizeable veteran population who might benefit from engagement with our team of Chelsea Pensioners, staff and volunteers. There are also plans to develop a digital offer.

 The Veterans’ Outreach Officer will support  the Head of Veterans’ Outreach in developing and managing the programme of activities encouraging engagement and social interaction between Chelsea Pensioners and other service veterans thereby helping to alleviate the social isolation and loneliness felt by many older veterans. Responsibilities will include promoting the programme within veterans' networks and finding innovative ways to connect with veterans; the management of themed events both at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and further afield as we seek to expand nationwide. The role also involves significant data collection and analysis to inform the strategy, evaluate delivery, and identify fundraising opportunities.
