About Bite Back 2030
We’re surrounded by junk food. From the moment we're born, every second of every day, children are being targeted. Giant companies manipulate them with colourful, cuddly, clever marketing, deceive them with packaging claims and pump products at them that are full of junk. It's become the cultural wallpaper. Now, it risks endangering the health of a generation.
In the UK, nearly a third of children aged 2-15 face a higher risk of food-related ill health in their futures. The good news is, it's preventable. And we're biting back.
Bite Back is a youth activist movement challenging a food system that's been set up to fool us all by:
1) Calling out the manipulation of the junk food giants.
2) Demanding higher standards from food marketing and from everyday food itself.
3) Mobilising and equipping young people in the fight for better food.
We do all this so we can bite back against a global epidemic of food-related ill health.
About Bite Back in Schools
Bite Back has delivered our youth social action programme — Bite Back in Schools— to over 120 schools over the last two years. Working with secondary schools, we have supported over 2,000 11-14 year olds to plan and deliver social action projects to prioritise child health by improving their school food. With funding awarded from the #iWill Fund, we are recruiting a brilliant cohort of schools who will join the programme in September 2024. The NSPA network has grown significantly since 2020. The number of organisations working with us has almost doubled and individual membership has increased four-fold. Whilst those running suicide prevention programmes are a significant proportion of our membership, a growing number are those whose core business is not suicide prevention but who recognise the need to take action and are seeking support to do so.
There are more organisations than ever working to prevent suicide and it can be difficult to navigate the wealth of information available and connect with organisations that may be undertaking similar/ relevant work. Some may be unaware of or find it difficult to access evidence around what works, what is already happening and what can be built upon.
Why NSPA?
Make a real difference in the lives of those affected by suicide, all whilst working in a supportive and inclusive environment. As our NSPA Content & Engagement Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in leading our efforts to drive meaningful change to help prevent suicide.

• Have the opportunity to build and manage relationships with NSPA members, people with lived experience and other key stakeholders.
• Manage the NSPA’s communications, working closely with the Membership & Communications Officers with strategic input from the Executive Lead.
Emotional Resilience
In this role you may be exposed to detailed information and personal stories of suicide, which may be upsetting. We will discuss this with you at interview stage however this role does require a good level of emotional resilience. Support is in place both from the organisation and within the team.
What’s in it for you – our benefits
So, you want to work for us? Good choice. We like it here too. We offer competitive salaries, flexible and hybrid working to suit your needs, family-friendly policies, 28 days annual leave inclusive of wellbeing days and a matched pension contribution up to 5%. You’ll have a structured induction and ongoing projects, secondments & learning opportunities. We also have colleague-led affinity groups made up of people with shared identities.
Your health and wellbeing is our priority. We have a staff community of Mental Health First Aiders, a Health Cash Plan and an Employee Assistance Programme. You’ll have free subscriptions to Headspace (your personal guide to mindfulness, sleep, focus, movement, and more) & Perkbox (an employee benefits platform with online exercise classes). That’s not all. We listen to your ideas and have staff forum and social committee networks.
Hybrid and flexible working
We are a flexible organisation, and we embrace hybrid working – a mix of connecting in person and remotely. We’re aware that the world is changing, and we all want and need different things from our work and home lives. So, if you need to walk the dog, go to the gym, or have commitments outside of work, we’re open to talking through flexible working options that work for you and us.
Being Inclusive
We recognise the enormous benefits and the social justice imperatives of ensuring diversity at every level of our organisation. Samaritans is wholly committed to inclusion and diversity and to building a culture and environment where everyone is appreciated for the unique person they are.
