We need a new Director of Communications. You’ll be responsible for helping us communicate the Gospel and the great work we do in our communities, and telling the good news stories that encourage and inspire us as we embark on our strategy to deliver the Diocesan vision to “bless the 1.5 million people” in our diocese who currently have no meaningful connection with our worshipping communities. We need someone who can catalyse everyone in the diocese to be better communicators.
The successful candidate will have a wide-ranging experience of communication matters with the ability to promote our work in a positive and strategic manner, and manage media relations proactively and effectively.
The post is based at Church House, Daresbury, with some travel around the Diocese and the option for hybrid working with up to 40% working from home. A full driving licence and access to a car is essential.
Salary: £51,515 - £55,692 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Marketing and Communications professional to join our team and support both the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King and the wider archdiocese in developing engaging communications and marketing our events and initiatives. It is an exciting time for the Cathedral as our retail and hospitality outlets are redeveloped. Based within the Communications and IT Team within the Chief Operating Officer’s Department you will support the sharing of the good news of the archdiocese both internally and externally within our parishes, with clergy, schools, officers and stakeholders. As a team we are focussed on growing and developing our existing platforms including our websites and social media channels, as well as supporting the Archbishop, our parishes, clergy and other departments with communication and marketing needs. This role will also lead on supporting the archdiocese in telling the story of the Cathedral, past, present and future and helping build the vision of the new Visitor Centre. We are seeking an experienced professional who can help us translate our vision and engage with our communities and visitors to our city. The successful post-holder will work between St Margaret Clitherow Centre and the Cathedral (2 days per week), with travel across the Archdiocese as required. Main Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver a new Partners development strategy to secure significant gifts from individuals.
• Identify, cultivate and secure relationships to deliver maximum long-term impact and income through effective personal relationship management of major Partners.
• Develop strong and enduring relationships with current and potential major Partners.
• Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to create compelling, relevant and tailored funding proposals.
• Work with the Head of International Programme to design and develop a targeted contact strategy.

• Develop and maintain adequate major Partners records.
• Market UKIM Relief’s projects and products to new and existing partners whilst maintaining partner loyalty through special partner services.

• Assist in coordinating in Partner Services to ensure data integrity, quality control, and database requirements.

• Ensure information flow is managed and easily accessible to allow the team to provide all partners with any personal information requested.

Person Specification:
• Experience of major partner fundraising.
• Strong knowledge of, and successful track record in, delivering significant new income through personal approaches to major partner prospects.
• Proven track record of personally soliciting high value gifts from major partners and of developing long-term relationships.

We're looking for someone with experience of verging or similar church support work. Good social skills are essential as is the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own inititiave. The ability to work closely with and relate well to all Cathedral staff, ministry team, congregation, volunteers, visitors, and members of the general public will also be required.
The two Assistant Vergers and Precinct Officers (AVPOs) carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of the Head Verger and Precinct Manager. Work includes: the careful setting up and delivery of all liturgical matters; ensuring a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all working in, visiting, or using the Cathedral and Cathedral House and precinct and ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the Cathedral for all.
Essential experience and skills
- Sympathy with the Christian faith.
- At least one year’s experience as a church or cathedral verger or in a similar role.
- A flexible attitude and willingness to take on a range of duties including practical ‘hands- on’ work.
- Attention to detail and an ability to assess priorities including when under pressure.
- Understanding of liturgy or willingness to learn.
- Ability to be a good team player and work collaboratively with Ministry Team, staff and volunteers.
- Willing to work alone.
- Good administrative and IT skills.
- Good understanding of the importance of security, maintenance and health and safety.
