We are seeking to appoint one lay member to sit on our GOC Council.

About the GOC

We are the regulator for the optical professions in the UK. Our purpose is to protect the public by promoting high standards of education, performance and conduct.  For more information about us please visit our website:optical. org.

About the Council

The role of Council is to lead on the GOC’s mission to protect the public by upholding high standards in eye care services.  The Council is composed of six lay members (including the Chair) and six registrant members (i.e. registered optometrists and dispensing opticians).  At least one member of the Council must work wholly or mainly in each of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.  One Council member acts as a Senior Council Member whose role is to carry out the Chair’s appraisal as well as provide a sounding board for the Chair and serve as an intermediary for Council members, Executive and stakeholders as necessary. 

The successful candidate will contribute to Council by exercising oversight, ensuring effective corporate governance, and making high-level policy decisions. They will be able to operate strategically and impartially; listen, communicate, and influence effectively; exercise judgment; and inspire confidence and support amongst our stakeholders. 

Remuneration and time commitment

Council members are remunerated in accordance with our member fees policy (£13,962 per annum plus reasonable travel and subsistence expenses).  The member fee includes time for reading and preparation.

The appointed member will be expected to commit approximately 2-3 days per month.  Meetings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC Offices at Level 29, One Canada Square, London, E14 5AA. There are occasional online catch-up meetings - these are currently scheduled on a Tuesday evening every 6-8 weeks, from 5.30pm – 6.30pm.

BACKGROUND

Ashiana is a ‘by and for’ women's led BME VAWG service with 30 years’ experience in delivering a holistic range of specialist services to South Asian, Turkish and Middle Eastern women affected by VAWG.

OUR SERVICES

Ashiana runs three refuges with a total of 29 bedspaces; specifically for women aged 16-35 fleeing forced marriage. This multi award winning project is the only service of its kind in the UK and is highly innovative in terms of addressing an area of significant need not met in other refuge provision. Within these refuges we designate a number of bedspaces for women with no recourse to public funds. We offer an advice and support service to women and girls who are experiencing VAWG, enabling them to make informed decisions and exit violent relationships. We provide a legal service supporting women with no recourse to public funds to help resolve their immigration status.

Counselling is offered for women and girls affected by VAWG. The counselling service works from an integrative stance, with the focus of providing a holistic service whereby we also work alongside other services and provide specialist domestic violence group work. The emphasis of therapeutic work with our clients is from a trauma informed model.

We also deliver an education programme for young people in secondary schools in East London aimed at preventing domestic violence and enabling young people experiencing domestic violence to access appropriate services. The prevention service includes delivering a whole school approach in schools to young people as well as group work to women and girls across North East London boroughs as well as community engagement activities and delivery. We deliver a range of awareness raising workshops for young people in the community and training on domestic violence for professionals in the voluntary and statutory sector.

PRIMARY TASK

The post is instrumental in overseeing the delivery of a comprehensive package of services and care for women in our refuges. To provide a safe environment and a service that is appropriate to the needs of young BME women particularly those from South Asian, Turkish and Middle Eastern communities and to support ex-clients following resettlement.

The post holder will have a caseload of clients and be responsible for providing advice, advocacy, casework and support to women and girls, advocating on behalf of these women and making others aware of their particular needs. The post-holder is required to demonstrate sensitivity and an awareness of the culture and needs of  minoritised communities in all aspects of their duties and responsibilities.

The People and Governance Coordinator is responsible for offering high level People team support, ensuring effective and efficient ways of working across the organisation and contributing to a positive employee and candidate experience.

The purpose of this role is to have oversight of all People team administrative processes and offer support to employees and managers. Barnabas International is a large family of Christian ministries and charities focused on giving practical support to suffering, abandoned and persecuted Christians around the world. Overview of the Philanthropy Manager role and the team

Barnabas Aid is seeking a proactive and experienced Philanthropy Manager to join our International Outreach team. This new role is integral to ensuring the growth and sustainability of our work through regular or one time organisational and personal donations. The Philanthropy Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy in support of this, targeting potential supporters who wish to leave a lasting impact through Barnabas’ work. The role will involve cultivating relationships with current and prospective organisational and private UK based and international supporters, overseeing communications and marketing strategies, and ensuring that Barnabas Aid’s fund raising programme is promoted effectively across all channels.

As part of a dynamic fundraising team, the Philanthropy Manager will work closely with the Head of Campaigns, the Living Streams Officer, and the Head of Communications. The role will also involve engagement with donors, ensuring that Barnabas Aid is at the forefront of supporters' minds when it comes to making donations or leaving a legacy for future generations of Christians in need.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Fund Raising Strategy:
  •  Develop and implement a comprehensive donation, legacy marketing and stewardship strategy, with the aim of increasing the number of organisational, regular and one-off individual donations in addition to legacy gifts to Barnabas Aid.
  • Adherence to the Code of Fundraising Practice within this strategy.
• Fund Raising Marketing:
  • Create and execute marketing campaigns that inspire organisations and supporters to consider making one off or regular donations to Barnabas Aid. This will include writing promotional materials, organising events, and developing digital campaigns to raise awareness of the variety of ways of making donations and legacy giving.
• Donor Stewardship:
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective donors, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated.
  • Provide regular updates and tailored communications to supporters to ensure long-term engagement and support.
• Engagement & Retention:
  • Work to retain donors by developing a robust stewardship programme that encourages ongoing involvement and loyalty.
• Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the Head of Campaigns and the communications team to ensure that the fund raising programme is integrated into wider campaigns and communications strategies.
• Reporting & Tracking:
  • Maintain accurate records of gifts and supporters, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations eg The Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice, charity law etc.
  • Report on campaign outcomes, analysing data to identify trends and optimise future strategies.
• Promote Donor Giving:
  • Represent Barnabas Aid at events, meetings, and speaking opportunities to promote the many different ways to donate and build awareness within all supporter communities.
• Target Achievement:
  • Set and achieve specific targets for the acquisition of new gifts and be a key player in meeting the overall goals for Barnabas Aid.

• Collaboration with Regional Offices:
  • Work with the National Directors of our Regional Offices worldwide to promote donor giving in different geographical areas and ensure strategies are relevant to regional contexts.
• Training & Development:
  • Provide training and resources to staff and volunteers to ensure the fund raising message is communicated consistently across the organisation.

Knowledge , Skills and Experience

Essential

• Fundraising Expertise:
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies, ideally within a (faith-based)charity or not-for-profit environment.
• Campaign Management:
  • Strong background in developing, planning, executing, and measuring marketing campaigns across multiple platforms, including print, digital, and face-to-face engagement.
  • Demonstrable success in increasing donations

o Experience in major donor relations, or planned and unplanned giving campaigns.

• Relationship Building:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in building long-term relationships with high-value and individual donors, including legacy supporters.
• Data Management:
  • Strong organisational and data management skills, with experience using CRM systems to track supporters, donors and gifts.
• Strategic Thinking:
  • Ability to think strategically, develop long-term plans for on going income, and adjust tactics as needed to meet targets.

About the role

Each year, thousands of people journey to South Georgia—tourists, scientists, filmmakers, yachts, and research vessels—all of whom require government permission to visit. As Visitor Manager, you’ll be at the heart of managing and improving that process.

Based in Stanley, Falkland Islands, you’ll oversee our visit permitting system, lead on visitor site strategy and briefings, embed our new Entry Control System, and shape the future of tourism policy. You’ll also work closely with our teams at King Edward Point, the Falklands, and beyond to ensure visits protect the islands’ unique biodiversity while supporting sustainable growth.

• Managing visit permit assessments across multiple visitor types

• Acting as the main liaison with tour operators, the International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO), and partner organisations

1. Job Purpose

The Senior Mental Health Support Worker will provide time-limited, one-to-one emotional and practical support to individuals experiencing low to moderate mental health challenges, including those with complex needs. This role involves conducting initial referral needs and risk assessments, developing personalised support plans, and delivering face-to-face, remote, and, in rare cases, home-based support.

The postholder will also take a lead role in supporting and supervising 1-1 Support Buddy volunteers, ensuring they are well-trained, supported, and delivering high-quality interventions. Additionally, the role requires managing complex cases, offering tailored interventions, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure appropriate care pathways are in place.

The successful candidate will be a compassionate and skilled professional with a strong commitment to empowering service users, improving mental health and well-being, and ensuring individuals receive the right support at the right time.

2. Main Duties and Responsibilities

Client Assessment and Support Planning:

• Conduct initial referral needs and risk assessments to determine service user requirements and level of need.
• Develop and implement personalised support plans, setting clear and achievable objectives.
• Monitor progress and carry out regular reviews to assess changes in need and update plans accordingly.

One-to-One Support (Including Complex Cases):

• Deliver time-limited one-to-one support (up to 12 weeks per service user).

This role will be responsible for the planning, preparation and deployment of YAA’s new fundraising CRM and its associated business processes. You will work collaboratively with YAA’s internal project stakeholders, an implementing partner, the system vendor and play a key role in establishing an agile approach to project delivery.

What You’ll Do

• Project Management accountability for the YAA CRM Project, ensuring successful, on-time and on-budget delivery
• Establish and manage a realistic and committed plan for the project, taking into consideration business deadlines, dependencies, resources, and costs, monitoring work plan activities and support team members in delivering their project elements
• Work successfully with the implementation partner, vendors and any 3rd party systems to deliver the CRM solution to a go-live point and then project sign-off
