Senior Project Officer

£32,145 per annum (pro rata for part time hours)

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Sustrans as part of the Connected Neighbourhoods team, working in partnership with East Lothian Council to facilitate a strategic approach to active travel infrastructure development and delivery in the council area, as well as providing support with active travel policies and proposals for the council's planning and pipeline projects.
As the Senior Project Officer, you will be embedded within East Lothian Council, working in partnership with external organisations and across council departments to align policy aims and identify and develop opportunities for investment in active travel. You will support the planning and delivery of active travel interventions and provide expert support and guidance to ensure that walking, wheeling and cycling are integrated into strategies, programmes and projects.
The role is based within the geographical area with regular travel expected to East Lothian Council offices and either Edinburgh or Glasgow hubs.
About you
You should have experience in (at least) one of the following: transport planning, land use planning, urban design, traffic engineering, sustainable transport project delivery.
You will be an experienced project manager able to work collaboratively with multiple partners and stakeholders.
You should have the ability to work independently and be able to make decisions with minimal supervision, as well as have excellent report writing skills.
We ask you demonstrate knowledge of the funding context for active travel in Scotland.

Principal Mobility Planner

About the role
As the Principal Mobility Planner, you will lead Sustrans Scotland’s Transport Planning function to support the effective delivery of programmes and act as a senior influencer in active travel across Scotland.
You will have responsibility for leading the Transport Planning function, providing services across the range of programmes and projects Sustrans delivers. You will lead the delivery of active travel & integrated transport planning strategies and steer for capital projects, services and programmes across Sustrans Scotland and for the National Cycle Network forward planning, while providing up to date technical knowledge and advice on best practice within the sector to colleagues and other partners.
Responsible for setting the operational function and best practice, you will ensure prioritisation and allocation of resources to deliver projects against a range of financial and performance targets set in conjunction with our clients.
This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake work on behalf of Sustrans. You will work from a Sustrans office in Edinburgh or Glasgow with the flexibility to work from home.
About you
You will have a transportation and/or planning background (disciplines such as but not limited to town planning/city planning/transport planning) allowing you to develop a strategic action plan to deliver and support coherent and strategic network planning for active travel in Scotland. You should have proven experience of working on a diverse and complex range of design projects, considering place and movement functions alongside interactions of vehicular traffic.
You should have demonstrable experience of leading, motivating and managing a multi-functional team.
Your communication skills must be finely honed, allowing you to effectively communicate and build good relationships with colleagues, representatives from central and local government, active travel delivery partners, communities, Transport Scotland and other key stakeholders.

Learning & Development Manager (LDM) – Cymru Wales, West Midlands & South West

If you’re passionate about helping further the mission of Methodist churches, circuits and districts, then we would like to hear from you. As an experienced professional with a proven track record in learning and development, and management, you will be part of a Learning Network (LN), within the Ministries and Learning team and part of the Connexional Team of The Methodist Church.
The LN comprises 30+ staff working as part of a single team operating across the Methodist Church in Britain. The team is strategically and collaboratively managed by Learning and Development Managers (LDMs), each having responsibility for a number of Learning and Development Officers (LDO) working within a geographical area. We are seeking to recruit an LDM for the Cymru Wales, West Midlands and South West area. There is a requirement to live within this geography that includes the Methodist districts: Wales Synod Cymru, West Midlands (following the merger of the current Birmingham District and the Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury District on 1st September 2025), Southampton, Channel Islands, Bristol, and South West Peninsular.
Responsibilities of the Learning Development Manager include:
- strategic shared leadership of the LN
- leading and managing the LDOs, balancing the needs and expectations of lay and ordained
- developing, implementing and reviewing, alongside other LDMs and the Director of Ministry Learning, the strategic work plan of the LN
- building and maintaining good relationships across the Connexional Team and with individuals and communities across the church and beyond
- encouraging the sharing of individual gifts and experiences across a number of teams and stakeholders
- travel (including overnight stays), weekend and evening work
We are looking for someone who has:
- proven experience of coordinating and managing a dispersed team of staff and volunteers
- significant experience and is passionate about learning and development
- a strong commitment to collaborative and partnership working
- a proven track record of meeting deadlines within a complex and varied workload
Knowledge of the Welsh language would be a valuable asset to this role
