We're looking for three new individuals to join our Trust Board and help us deliver our vision to be champions of excellence in girls’ education.
This is an exciting time to join the Girls’ Learning Trust, as we emerge from the impact of the pandemic and build towards our future. The Trust is financially strong, is led by a team of talented individuals, and all our schools are high performing. Our governance is professional and robust, and we are now looking at the next stage of our development with a new CEO and Executive Leadership Team at the helm of the Trust.
As we look to our medium-term future, we recognise the importance of succession planning and ensuring that we have individuals with the right level of experience in the organisation’s governance. A number of our longest serving Trustees are due to finish their terms of office over the next two years, and we are therefore recruiting a ‘wave’ of three new individuals to join our Board. This will give us the perfect blend of renewal within our current membership, as well as set the organisation up positively for the future.
Key responsibilities for the role include:
- Strategic Leadership: approving and championing the vision, ethos and strategy of the Trust.
- Accountability: holding the organisation and each other to account for driving up educational standards and financial performance.
- People: ensuring the Trust recruits, retains and develops staff with the right skills, experience, qualities and capacity.
- Structures: approving and upholding the governance structure that reinforces clearly defined roles and responsibilities, and ensures the right decisions are made by the right people at the right time.
- Compliance: ensuring the Trust complies with statutory and contractual requirements as required by relevant regulation.
- Evaluation: continually monitoring and reporting against key indicators to improve quality and impact.
The successful candidates:
Although we’re open to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds (your skills and values matter to us more than anything), we’re particularly keen to hear from those with an experience in financial management, estates management and education leadership.
Our commitment:
The Girls’ Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and trustees to share this commitment. In order to meet this responsibility, we follow a rigorous selection process to discourage and screen out unsuitable applicants.
As well as verification of identity, we ask all Trustees to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and any further checks deemed appropriate to establish your suitability.

Who we are
Rambert School’s mission is to provide world-leading conservatoire training and education in ballet and contemporary dance, embracing individuality and innovation, while being deeply rooted in tradition and technical rigour. Our student body is purposefully small but diverse, with just 45 undergraduates from all over the world accepted each year to benefit from intimate and intensive training.
The role
Can you help shape and support Rambert School to ensure it remains a centre of global excellence in dance education?
Rambert School is a world leading centre of ballet and contemporary dance training; a dance education sector innovator shaping new generations of dance professionals to the highest standard. Our international influence and reputation honours the name of Marie Rambert, the iconic Polish dance pioneer of the Ballets Russes who founded the School in the UK in 1920. Under Rambert’s guiding light, the Rambert School and the Company which flowered from it, became synonymous with technical excellence and creativity.

Our new Trustees will share the School’s belief that dance, choreography and creativity can transform the lives of young people and society more broadly.
We are looking for individuals with the passion, lived experience and interpersonal skills to join our welcoming Board of Trustees. Members of our Board reflect the Nolan Principles in their work, and are committed, supportive and generous with their time and goodwill. They bring integrity, compassion, independent judgement, a willingness to speak their minds, and an ability to listen and collaborate with others. We believe that lived experience, professional knowledge and background are of equal value and importance and this is fundamental to the recruitment process for new Trustees.
We warmly welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, who will bring a fresh perspective and a range of expertise and experience to the Board. We are eager to meet both applicants with existing Trustee experience and those who are new to being a Trustee.
We have a thorough induction process and will provide the appropriate information, training and support to all new Trustees. Trustees are appointed initially for three years, with an option to serve for up to a further two terms. The role is not remunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The role carries legal responsibilities. Further information on being a charity Trustee and what is involved can be found on the Government’s website

About Trust in Learning (Academies)
Trust in Learning (Academies, also known as TiLA, is a charity dedicated to helping schools and children. It is committed to improving schools and the experiences of children and young people, enabling them to become successful learners and responsible citizens.

TiLA aims to enhance the quality of education and outcomes for children and young people in Bristol and the West of England by fostering communities that trust in learning and the transformative power of education.
We support and challenge schools to improve by promoting the autonomy and empowerment of effective leadership and governance.
As a Trust, we provide robust central support services to empower our schools to deliver excellent education to every learner.
We see our schools as pillars in their communities and have made it our duty to offer a foundation on which they can build and flourish.

We need a Chair designate to manage meetings effectively, so having an understanding of effective governance, either in a professional or non-executive capacity, is ideal for us.
As a publicly funded organisation committed to delivering a valuable return on the public funds entrusted to us, it is essential that our next Chair brings experience in financial planning and demonstrates strong financial literacy.
Regardless of the professional background of our chosen Chair of Trustees, it is imperative that the successful candidate is driven to learn as part of their role. As a Trust, we will be committed to supporting you in becoming a rounded Chair by providing you with the necessary training and resources.
We welcome applicants to TiLA who seek to join us in creating an environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and personally, with opportunities for enrichment and a community-led approach to education. We recognise our social and moral role in our communities and hope that our new Chair can work with us to continue striving for that.
Peridot Partners and Trust in Learning (Academies) are, together, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
