We seek a highly capable Membership and Office Administrator to support the work of the Society’s professional Office based at University College London.
The role will focus primarily on supporting and communicating with the Society’s extensive membership, which largely comprises practising historians in higher education and other sectors, as well as prospective members, applicants for the Society’s extensive research funding programme, and members of the public.
The role holder will report to the Membership and Programmes Manager and will also assist in the running of the Society’s research funding schemes. This is a hybrid position which supports home / remote working as the predominant model. Job Title: Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist
Reports To: Research Lead with mentorship provided by Prof Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning at the University of Winchester
Salary: up to £39,500 per annum

The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a postgraduate-level researcher who wishes to combine their expertise in education research and astute understanding of real-life classroom practice. While the role will sit within the Chartered College of Teaching, the postholder will also receive mentoring from Professor Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-Life Learning at the University of Winchester, providing a rare opportunity to combine academically rigorous research with real-life application. As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.
Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.
This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes. You will:
- rapidly review evidence of assessment methods and pedagogies designed to cultivate knowledge, skills and dispositions of pupils, identifying gaps
- with support, produce evidence synthesis for a small number of key methods, not currently widely used by teachers
- manage a portfolio of online events aimed at developing teachers’ and school leaders’ levels of assessment literacy
- co-ordinate the work of the Next Generation Assessment group
- create online resources for the Chartered College member platform relating to evidence-informed teaching and assessment.
The postholder will also be required to collate policy announcements around assessment and monitor any developments relating to the use of EdTech and AI for assessment. The ultimate aim of this work is to help illustrate that the common ‘trad’ versus ‘prog’ debates that still dominate many discussions in education are ultimately unhelpful and teachers need a wide range of different teaching approaches to help support a range of intended learning outcomes. This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Postgraduate qualification in Education or a relevant field
- Experience conducting rapid evidence reviews relating to teaching, learning and assessment
- Experience of teaching in schools in the UK or internationally
- Experience producing content for a range of audiences including teachers, school leaders and policymakers
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of effective, evidence-informed approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment
- Experience developing and managing an online portfolio of events and resources
- Experience managing and chairing meetings, including the production of written summaries of discussions for a wide range of audiences

We are recruiting a Suicide Prevention Officer who is bilingual in Welsh and English to facilitate the development, sale and delivery of high quality and impactful training and education programmes, upskilling individuals and organisations in suicide prevention.
What you will do:
- Facilitate in-person and online training sessions, ensuring interactive and impactful learning experiences.
- Develop and promote PAPYRUS’s training offer, tailoring to stakeholder needs and securing sales.
- Build relationships and partnerships to expand our reach and influence.
- Support the creation of e-learning and digital training resources.
- Prepare stakeholders for, and debrief them after, suicide interventions.
- Stay informed of best practice and national strategy, contribute to campaigns, and represent PAPYRUS in the media and at events.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- A degree or professional qualification in a relevant field such as Education, Counselling, Training, Psychology, Community Development or Youth Work.
- A recognised training qualification or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience in delivering and developing training programmes and community-based projects in both English and Welsh.
- Ability to manage sensitive conversations and facilitate learning in emotionally complex areas.
- Strong relationship-building, presentation and time management skills.
- Professional curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to safeguarding.
- Confidence in working independently and remotely, with ability to travel as required.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Location: Although this role is home based, the applicant should be based in Cardiff due to the regular travel across the area. There is also requirement to travel across the wider area of Wales and West of England.

Role Overview

You will lead key delivery areas of the marketing function, focusing on planning, running and evaluating effective, segmented email campaigns, creating compelling assets, building trust through social proof and coordinating our presence at events. Key Responsibilities
Email Campaign Management

Design and implement segmented email marketing campaigns that generate leads and drive nurture, conversion and engagement

Literacy Pirates delivers a high-impact literacy programme for 8t o 13 year olds. We work exclusively with children who are nominated by the school, as falling behind age expectations in literacy and facing economic barriers to educational success.
We have spent three years proving the concept of an online product delivering significant impact and engaging increasing numbers of children each term: Over 90% attendance rate, 83% of participants improve their literacy, and 90% of teachers see a boost in confidence of participants in the classroom.
Strategically, the Virtual Ship is an agile way to expand the number of children we work with and reach underserved communities with persistently poor educational outcomes for children from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
We are beginning our national expansion strategy in Cornwall in autumn 2025. We have plans to rapidly grow from serving 450 to 3,000 children per year by 2030 or earlier.
