About the Youth Endowment Fund

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. 

Last year, 244 people in England and Wales tragically died after being assaulted with a knife. Of these, 32 were children. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them. Even when violence doesn’t strike directly, we know that the fear of violence has a terrible effect on children’s lives.

The Youth Endowment Fund exists to try and permanently change things. To succeed, we must build an exceptional body of knowledge about violence affecting young people and how we reduce it. This knowledge has to be both rigorous and highly relevant to those making decisions about how to support vulnerable young people. We need to find out what works and what doesn’t through evidence synthesis, data analysis and qualitative research into children’s lives. We need to convert this into highly accessible content on what works, how delivery organisations need to change their practice and how the systems they operate in need to be reformed. We then need to work with the right people that can make change happen, across systems, policies and practice, to have a real impact on reducing violence affecting children’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

Deciding which projects, we should fund and evaluate is key, as is making sure we deliver our funding and evaluations to the highest standards. Our Programme Managers are responsible for identifying, assessing, funding and supporting programmes designed to prevent youth violence.

Programme Managers at YEF come from all walks of life. We look for individuals who may have experience in the youth sector, children’s social care, policing, criminal justice, education or how to involve local residents in making decisions about their own neighbourhoods.

As a Programme Manager at YEF, you will work very closely with our evaluation team to make sure we learn from what’s being implemented and that the organisations we fund are prepared and excited to work with us to find what works.

To achieve this, you will:

· Make sure we choose the best organisations to work with by assessing funding applications, critically appraising delivery plans and budgets, getting to know potential grantees and conducting site visits. These assessments will help you form recommendations to our senior leadership team about which opportunities to pursue.

· Work closely with grantees, external evaluators and our own evaluation team to ensure that the activity we are funding will be evaluable. This requires you to support and advise grantees on how to work in the context of an evaluation – usually, a randomised trial (you don’t have to have experience working on a randomised trial in the past, but it helps!).

· Build strong relationships with our grantees and provide them with ongoing management and support through the life of their funding. You will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of grantees and ensuring targets are met and any project risks are effectively mitigated.

· Think carefully about how we find the best projects to fund and evaluate, ensuring we can best find what works to keep children safe. To do this you might need to work with colleagues to spot where there has previously been a lack of evidence about what works (we will help you with this!). You would project manage these projects so they are excellently delivered – on time, within budget, and to a high standard. You will help to determine what our commissioning processes aim to achieve and design grant application processes to achieve it.

· You’ll manage our engagement with potential grantees to make sure we are attracting a diverse and promising portfolio of organisations to apply.

· Report to our team and external stakeholders regularly on how well the projects we are funding are going, spotting where grantees need support and coming up with how we can best provide that support.

· Represent the Youth Endowment Fund at external events, including reporting and presenting to our Grants and Evaluation Committee, who approve all our funding decisions.

You are able to reach sound and considered judgements about the viability and suitability of applicants based upon our given criteria, often using detailed written and financial information, and are able to deliver constructive feedback to organisations. You can also identify when things aren’t going to plan and be proactive with sharing observations and recommendations.
• You are an optimiser. You look for solutions and think creatively to overcome challenges. You are curious, hungry to learn and always looking for ways to improve processes and increase efficiency and impact.
• You love well-designed systems. You are committed to designing and maintaining the best systems to make sure we manage our commissioning processes well. You know this is critical to effectively managing multiple, large-scale funding programmes and competing priorities.

Hybrid Working Details 

The office is based in Central London, but you don’t have to be. Those living in and around London are expected to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. If you live outside of London and work remotely, you’ll be expected to work from the London office 2 days per month. Key Responsibilities 

• Work closely with the Managing Director to ensure efficient operations and resource management.

The Benefits Service within South East London Mind is a well-established offer of support to clients who need to access welfare benefits they are entitled to receive. The service currently provides casework support for people who need to challenge benefits decisions across the three boroughs of Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich. There is also a cross-area team of volunteers who assist with form filling and all aspects of the assessment process.

We are looking for a Benefits Service Manager with significant experience of working within welfare benefits. You will have a good understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems and the links with welfare issues. You will take responsibility for the quality of support the team deliver to ensure it is robust and accountable. We hope to be able to extend our offer of support in the future so it will be important you have an interest in developing the service.

The Finance department provides the complete finance function which includes payroll to the whole organisation overseeing all the 165 services across England, addressing all issues and processing payments to meet the demands of staff and external agencies.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will be responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the new itrent payroll system, configurations are as per the requirements of the organisation and ensuring that the project is completed on time and goes live successfully. You will be a confident communicator and comfortable working in a small team environment where priorities can change at short notice. 

Main Responsibilities:

• To work closely with MHR, HR Team and consultants to ensure that tasks are scheduled and completed to meet project timelines.
• To co-ordinate work with HR and Payroll colleagues to ensure all relevant payroll processes are captured, reviewed, and, where necessary or appropriate, changed to ensure they are fit for purpose with the new system.
• To be responsible and manage the configuration of the new modules, working with HR and Payroll colleagues, MHR and other consultants to ensure that it is configured to Family Action’s requirements and that the rationale and effects of our chosen configuration is clearly documented.
• To work alongside the HR Systems and Operation Managers to ensure that the HR and Payroll teams are trained and supported in the effective use of the system as pertains to their roles.
• To be responsible and manage user testing of the new system and any parallel runs as part of the implementation process.
• To act as the Payroll System Administrator for iTrent, taking the lead on technical functionality and expertise and liaising with MHR as required for technical solutions.
• To support the Payroll team with other ad hoc duties, as may be required for running an effective and efficient payroll system.

Sex Education Forum was founded in 1987 and became an independent charity in 2021. We convene over 70 Partner organisations, working together to make sure that the relationships and sex education (RSE) young people get is right for them. This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Helpline Contact Centre Manager for the National Domestic Abuse Helpline, the role is designed to provide high quality practical and emotional support to Deputy Managers across the NDAH, the postholder is also responsible for the ongoing management of our contact centre, the platform that survivors use to contact the NDAH.

The National Domestic Abuse Helpline provides a national gateway to services and survivors across the UK fleeing domestic abuse, working in consultation with the Senior Operations Manager. The Organisation

ImpactEd Group supports education and purpose-driven organisations to maximise their potential. We do this by helping our partners to be consistently impactful and operationally sustainable.

This role is within our Evaluation Practice. The evaluation team works with schools and organisations, analysing the impact of programmes and interventions to help them do more of what works and less of what doesn’t. We work with more than 1,400 schools and 80 education organisations, serving more than a quarter of million pupils. This includes helping our partners to design high-quality research projects, delivering them, and providing systems and tools for data collection, reporting and impact benchmarking.

Opportunity 1:Manager, ImpactEd Evaluation

The Manager role works across ImpactEd Evaluation. Our partners encompass education organisations such as charities, edtech organisations and government, and schools and multi-academy Trusts. We aim to deliver high-quality research and evaluation projects that help our partners make better decisions to benefit young people.

You will act as a consultant on a range of different partnerships to help partners develop their evaluation strategy and approach. For example, you could deliver independent evaluations for organisations like the Careers and Enterprise Company, Nesta or multi-academy Trusts such as Lift Schools. You will also have opportunities to contribute to development of team strategy and learning and development resources.

As a manager you will act as a project lead, delivering high-quality research projects at scale, and support the creation of specific deliverables for projects led by others. This covers the end to end of research design and delivery, including the creation of Theories of Change and evaluation frameworks, data collection and analysis, and impact reporting to help our partners learn about the effectiveness of their programmes. At manager level you will have the opportunity to take on larger-scope partnerships supported by a project sponsor at senior manager level or above.

Opportunity 2: Manager - Research Partnerships, ImpactEd Evaluation

The Manager role works across ImpactEd Evaluation but with a specific focus in our TRAPs team (targeted research and action projects). The TRAPs team are responsible for our national research projects, and work with both individual schools and groups of schools to sign them up to research cohorts: ensuring they can both contribute to a national research programme as well as gaining specific insights for their own school improvement journey.

You will act as a lead on a range of different partnerships to help partners develop their strategy and approach. For example, you could lead on the management of a key multi-academy trust, or could be supporting other team members with individual school partnerships, as well as supporting the Associate Director of TRAPs with overall research project design and planning. You will also have opportunities to contribute to development of team strategy and learning and development resources.

As a manager you will work closely with an Associate Director, lead on school group account management and support with the overall running and development of the TRAPs team.

About You

We are open to a range of backgrounds, but would expect prior experience of research and evaluation delivery and partnership management. Experience and understanding of the UK education system would also be an asset.  Across all our roles we look for team members who are excited by combining research work with listening to partner needs and designing solutions that work for them.
