Elderly volunteer roles

We drive, shop, provide companionship and carry out light gardening for over 200 members who live in Kew (West London) to help them live as independently as possible. We are looking for Volunteer Companions. The aim of KNA's Companionship programme is to provide social, emotional and practical support, and relief from isolation for local Kew people who are mostly older people with mobility issues. The objective is to offer support on an on-going basis through friendship.

As long as we can find a willing volunteer, we can help our members.

So many people don't have family who live close to them. We connect people who want to help, with people who need help. It's a win, win. Those who volunteer feel more engaged with the people within their own local communities. And those people who ask us for help are able to get to appointments, see their friends and get out and about.

Croydon Almshouses is seeking new trustees from all backgrounds who are passionate about giving their time to a dynamic Croydon charity that works to reduce the impact of poverty on people’s lives, so they can live with more dignity and independence.  We welcome applications from all, and are currently seeking trustees with experience and/ or professional qualifications in:

· Property Surveyor (MRICS or FRICS)

About Croydon Almshouses: 

Croydon Almshouses is the oldest charity in Croydon, and we are proud of our heritage. For over 550 years we have been supporting people who experience the impact of poverty.  Since 1447 we have offered almshouses, and for the last 40 years have also awarded grants to Croydon’s voluntary sector and individuals.

Volunteer to drive for KNA's beneficiaries who are Kew, TW9 residents. Our clients are generally older people (average age 82 years old) with mobility difficulties.  We take people to medical and social appointments.  Volunteering for KNA is very flexible.  It can be for as little as half an hour a month or multiple times a week.  It's entirely up to you.  You only offer to do jobs when it suits you. KNA connects Kew residents who need a helping hand with volunteers who drive, shop, offer companionship or carry out light gardening.

Whilst we have a good number of Driving Volunteers - we like to spread volunteering over many people so that no one feels they are doing too much.  Our drivers help people with limited mobility get to their medical appointments and go to their exercise , knit & stitch classes as well as hairdressing and chiropody appointments.  By becoming a volunteer driver you can help someone stay connected within their community and get to important appointments.

Volunteer to drive for Kew residents, who are generally older with mobility difficulties, for as little as an hour a month.  KNA connects Kew residents who need a helping hand with volunteers.  KNA Volunteer Drivers take Kew residents who have mobility difficulties to medical appointments, regular social events or classes or to visit family.

We organise a DBS check and request two references.  We can pay petrol expenses up to 45p / mile which is calculated by KNA on a quarterly basis.

We are a local independent charity supporting older people across Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, Ryedale and the surrounding areas. Our mission is to support people aged 50 and over to live independently, safely and well. Our charity shops raise essential funds to support this work – and volunteers like you are at the heart of it all.

The Role

As a Shop Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in the day-to-day running of your local Age UK charity shop. Whether you're helping on the shop floor, sorting donations, or creating eye-catching displays, your time and energy will help us support older people in our community.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your interests and the shop’s needs, your tasks may include:

• Visual Merchandising: Helping to create attractive window and in-store displays.

• Housekeeping: Ensuring the shop is clean, tidy and safe for everyone.

Do you live in Wales and want to gain valuable skills, have new experiences, and support vulnerable people? We are offering 1 young person aged 18–25 the opportunity to volunteer for up to 11 months with the Portuguese Red Cross in Guimarães, Portugal.

The Portuguese Red Cross in Guimarães supports the local community through a wide range of voluntary activities focused on social inclusion, education, health, and youth engagement.

Volunteers will be involved in several impactful projects, including:

• Supporting elderly people through digital inclusion and companionship
• Promoting healthy lifestyles and safety awareness among children and teenagers
• Assisting in shelters for homeless individuals and long-term care patients
• Organising creative and educational activities in schools, hospitals, and foster homes
• Helping with social media, fundraising, and community events.

Volunteers will stay in a shared house near the city centre, just a short walk from the Red Cross headquarters. The house includes shared bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, bathrooms, and a terrace. Volunteering hours will not exceed 35 hours per week, and volunteers are entitled to two consecutive days of rest. While most weekends are free, occasional weekend activities may take place.

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore your interests, develop new skills, and make a difference in a vibrant and historic city.
