Working Well Trust is a London based charity, founded almost 30 years ago by a group of passionate mental health professionals.They sought to address the low rates of employment typically experienced by those who have faced mental health issues. The charity supports people to prepare for, seek, sustain, and progress in employment. Since 2019, Working Well Trust has also been providing this support to people affected by learning difficulties and Autism. 

Are you passionate about worker rights and promoting more inclusive workplace environments for people with lived experience of mental health challenges? If so, we have a great role opening - where you can make an important contribution to supporting employees with mental health needs to stay well and in-work.

We are looking to recruit an Employment Retention Specialist for the In-Work Service team which aims to reduce the risk of Tower Hamlets residents falling out of employment on grounds of poor mental health. 

Experience of employment retention support is not essential; it is more important that you share our commitment to supporting people with mental health needs to maintain employment as a key enabler to supporting recovery and good mental health.

Main purpose of the role:

You will be working with a caseload of up to 25 clients using a person-centred and strengths-based approach. As the role also involves supporting employers, so they are better equipped to support staff with mental health needs, the ideal candidate will be comfortable in approaching and building effective relationships with employers and persuading them to use our service. You will take a co-ordinated and collaborative approach to supporting both client and employer (for which training will be provided).

Scope of the role:

  • Providing support, guidance and information to assist clients to better navigate and overcome workplace challenges
  • Advising clients about their workplace rights including Equality Act application and managing workplace disclosure
  • Supporting clients in face-to-face meetings with employers
  • Facilitating effective communication between clients and employers
  • Providing education and support to employers, covering return-to-work processes, workplace adjustments, workplace causes of poor mental health and how to support staff presenting with poor mental health
  • Liaising with key stakeholders including clinicians, line managers, HR professionals, occupational health services, trade union and legal advisers

Part of the role also involves working co-located with a mental health service, maintaining positive and integrated relationships and fostering a holistic approach to recovery through employment

The role is currently a mix of home and on-site working, but community work will be resumed once it is safe to do so for both staff and clients.

Staff benefits include an employer contribution to a personal or workplace pension equivalent to 6% of gross salary.  30 days annual leave plus paid public holidays.
