Practical Action is an international development organisation putting ingenious ideas to work so people in poverty can change their world. For the past eight years, Practical Action has been hosting and building the Global Distributors Collective (GDC): a collective of 300 last mile distribution companies that cumulatively reach millions of the poorest consumers in the world with beneficial products like solar lanterns, water filters and improved cookstoves. GDC activities are delivered in collaboration with strategic and implementing partner Bopinc.

The GDC provides a collective voice for distributors to ensure their priorities are heard; drives research and innovation across the sector; facilitates the exchange of information, insight, and expertise; and provides critical services that leverage economies of scale.

Moving into our 2026-30 strategy phase, we are proactively shifting from creating and setting up advisory services and tools that support last mile distributors to embedding and scaling these initiatives. Specifically, we will focus on four key strategic pillars:

· Unlocking finance: Prepare more last mile distributors (LMDs) for investment and help to unlock country-level financing mechanisms and create LMD-focussed debt facilities. 

· Strengthening business performance: Deliver training, shared services, and data tools that reduce business costs and improve efficiency, in scalable formats.

· Scaling innovation: Identify, test, and replicate high-value business innovations and remove eco-system barriers.

· Shaping systems and local leadership: Build local chapters and influence global and national agendas so LMDs are visible, valued and represented.

This is a dynamic, frontline casework role that spans three core areas of our housing provision: 

• The Hosting Project: Supporting people seeking sanctuary who have no recourse to public funds by giving them a welcoming, safe place to stay in the home of one of our volunteer hosts. 

• Refugee Lodgings: Helping to provide a safe and supported housing option for newly granted refugees at risk of homelessness by matching them with people who have a spare room.

We are seeking a dedicated, highly organised, and empathetic professional with proven experience working directly with people experiencing homelessness, particularly asylum seekers and forced migrants. 

You will have a strong working knowledge of the housing system, the UK welfare system (including Universal Credit and Housing Benefit), and how to support people to access their entitlements. Help shape a youth-led movement in Downham. Join Circle Collective as our Youth Involvement Lead and work directly with young people to turn their ideas into action, influence real decisions, and open pathways into employment.

At Circle Collective, we believe young people are experts in their own lives. As a London-based youth employment charity, we work alongside communities, partners, and employers to break down barriers and create meaningful opportunities for young people to thrive.

This role sits at the heart of Elevate 100, a vibrant, youth-designed space based in Downham Leisure Centre. Here, young people aged 16–30 access employment support, develop skills, and build confidence in a welcoming, inclusive environment. More than just a service, Elevate 100 is a platform for youth voice, co-production, and real influence.

As Youth Involvement Lead, you’ll be the key link between young people and the project. You’ll coordinate and support the Youth Action Board, helping young people shape decisions, manage budgets, and influence how services are delivered. You’ll facilitate engaging sessions, build trusted relationships, and ensure every young person feels heard, valued, and empowered.

Alongside this, you’ll mentor a small group of young people, supporting them to identify their goals and take steps towards employment, education, or training. You’ll also work closely with partners including Lewisham Council and Phoenix Community Housing, contributing youth insight to strengthen delivery and ensure services truly reflect local needs.

This is a hands-on, people-focused role for someone who is passionate about youth voice, confident facilitating groups, and committed to creating inclusive spaces where young people can grow and lead.

We do this through connecting people in music to the information and support they need to take care of themselves and each other, building a shared understanding of mental wellbeing in music to enable people to get the right help early and fostering thriving teams and work spaces which promote and protect the mental wellbeing of their people. 

About the role 

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team, in the newly created role of Support and Community Manager: Music Minds Matter.

Music Minds Matter has developed an ambitious new impact model which aims to transform mental wellbeing amongst people working in music and this role will manage the development and delivery of support within this model and play a truly impactful role across music. 

Day to day the role will deliver a blend of: new support development- from training and groups, to online digital content- ensuring all support is developed in line with our Clinical and Quality Governance protocols, planning and coordinating support for teams and sites across music, direct delivery of some support online and in person, and relationship management of our incredible network of Allies and delivery partners. 

About you 

Lived experience of the music industry, strong programme management skills, mental health service expertise, and the ability to build meaningful stakeholder connections across music will be the essential enablers for true impact in this role. 

You will need to self-manage a diverse portfolio of opportunities — mixing programme management with industry events and meetings to foster partnership. You will need to combine an in-depth understanding of safe and high-quality mental health support with a genuine understanding of what it’s like to work in music and what can make people in music thrive; and you will need to be a compelling and confident communicator able to convey both expertise and empathy.

Job Purpose 

This is a new and vital role for the Foundation, involving developing our work around employment, which will support British Muslims to access employment and develop their careers in fields in which we are currently under-represented.You will be part of a matrix-working team that will collectively develop this piece of work, so you will not be simply implementing an existing plan; you’ll be there from the start with key input into how this should be designed and implemented. 

Your key role will be to engage with employers in target industries of journalism, law, arts, public policy, and tech/AI.This will involve direct engagement with employers with whom we have no existing engagement, building on relationships we already have and working with third-party ‘intermediary bodies’ and organisations representing employers across entire sectors.The role seeks to achieve a clear impact by getting people into good quality roles with leading employers. 

Internal relationships 

You will report to the Director of the Foundation, who will work closely with you in the development of this new programme.The Foundation currently has five staff, now growing to eight.We are a tight-knit team that goes over and above to support one another.

This role will work closely with the role we are advertising in parallel, the Head of Careers & Talent Development.That role is more at the “supply” end – identifying and engaging graduates and other potential candidates to engage with employers. 

Key Responsibilities 

Broadly, the main duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: 

• Build and manage employer partnerships across all target sectors: journalism, law, arts, public policy, and tech/AI 

• Ensure our CRM system is maintained to track all external and internal communication for your area of work 

• Convene roundtables and sector networks. 

• Deliver employer engagement on employment practices that will support the recruitment and retention of 

the best British Muslim young people 

• Collaborate with internal colleagues to align employer needs with graduate pathways. 

• Collaborate with the Communications function to ensure internal and external promotion 

Person Specification

• Minimum five years’ professional experience in a related role
