Advisory
- Provide advice to line managers on employee relations (ER) issues e.g. policies, performance management, end-to-end absence management including return to work meetings, reporting and occupational health referrals etc. Able to resolve complex employee relation issues and conduct investigations where necessary.
 - Provide advice to managers across all policy and practice areas, for example on family friendly policies such as maternity, paternity, shared parental leave, carers leave, etc.
 - Support the maintenance of existing policy documentation and make changes where applicable
 - Proactively take responsibility for the adherence and implementation of HR policies

Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Public Affairs Manager, to lead our national public affairs activity, influencing the government to help deliver evidence-based policies that will make a real difference to children’s health. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the forefront of an urgent and politically significant policy area while also collaborating with young people to ensure their voices and lived experiences are heard by policymakers.
This is an exciting time to join Bite Back and take our public affairs strategy forward with the Government. We have already seen significant policy wins in the past year and have big ambitions to drive more progress in 2026. In 2024 and 2025 our youth activists gave evidence to the House of Lords, hosted parliamentary drop-in sessions and a mock inquiry, and made memorable appearances at party conference fringe sessions. This is an opportunity to build on that success and raise Bite Back’s profile even further amongst policymakers at a time when the Government is charting its new strategic approach to improving the food system as well as its 10 year plan to save the NHS. The Senior Public Affairs Manager will report to our Director of Advocacy & Strategy and be responsible for developing and implementing all our public affairs activity, ensuring alignment with our campaigns team and working closely with our partners in other organisations to bring about meaningful change. Responsibilities
The Senior Public Affairs Manager is accountable for:

Developing and delivering Bite Back’s public affairs and influencing strategy to galvanise action, building the profile of Bite Back, our young campaigners and securing support from political stakeholders at all levels, nationally, locally, in Westminster and Holyrood.

Ensuring this strategy remains “live” and flexible. Adapting it to political and policy change as necessary.

The Policy and Public Affairs Officer will be a member of the External Affairs Team. This role is designed to support the development and implementation BABCP’s influencing plan with a view to raising the profile and influence of BABCP amongst policy stakeholders and decision-makers to create positive change in policy.
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
As a member of the staff team:
- To work collaboratively with other members of the staff team to deliver our External Communications, as relevant

As the Policy and Public Affairs Officer:
- Keep up-to-date with current trends and activities by monitoring parliamentary and local government activity relevant to BABCP in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland; notifying and briefing colleagues of relevant political developments and opportunities to influence
 - Support reactive policy work such as drafting consultation responses, parliamentary debate briefings and summaries, and letters to policy makers; working with the Senior Clinical Advisor and the Head of External Affairs.
 - Liaise with the member engagement manager and the membership team on policy work ensuring member feedback is embedded into policy work.
 - Support the delivery of parliamentary events to publicise BABCP’s work including identifying and engaging key stakeholders, managing attendance, preparing and distributing event information, and post-event follow-up.
 - Support the Head of External Affairs and the Senior Clinical Advisor in the implementation of a public affairs influencing plan.
 - Raise awareness and the profile of BABCP by identifying, and developing relationships with key stakeholders.

Person Specification:
- Proven experience in public affairs and policy, preferably within the healthcare, public, or membership sectors.
 - Experience of liaising with a range of stakeholders and implementing stakeholder mapping.
 - High level of ICT literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and document management systems).
 - Strong understanding of UK and/or Irish health policy and parliamentary and legislative processes.
 - Excellent communication skills, and an ability to handle complex situations with tact and diplomacy.
 - Outstanding spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex information into simple accessible briefings at pace.
 - Effective relationship builder with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
