Job description

Operation Manager - Fitness to Practise (2 year fixed term)

The role

We're looking for Operational Managers to work in our Triage, Investigation, and Legal teams. The teams assess and investigate complaints and concerns we receive that might call a registrant's fitness to practise into question.

The Operational Manager will play a leading role in public protection by:

  • Working within our statutory powers and making sure the team delivers its work on time and to a high standard, including managing workloads, following guidance and processes, and meeting quality measures
  • To provide effective and inclusive management and leadership to a team by supporting their personal development and helping to develop their skills and knowledge
  • Making fair, well‑reasoned decisions on operational, casework, people and resource matters.

The person

Applicants must demonstrate their previous experience of managing teams in a fast-paced operational environment and must be able to apply established policies, guidance, and procedures. You need to have excellent analytical skills and be able to produce well written decisions, which are well-reasoned and clearly explain how and why decisions are reached. You must be able to effectively manage and prioritise a varied workload and the ability to manage your own time is essential.

You can find more detail on the tasks you will undertake and the essential skills required for the role in the job description.

Successful candidates will be required to attend face-to-face induction at the start of your role, in our Manchester office. Annual leave will not be permitted during this period, unless in exceptional circumstances and with prior approval. The current office attendance requirement is a minimum of two days per month (subject to change).

We are happy to consider a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.

GMC benefits

You'll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people with several excellent benefits including:

  • 30 days holiday with the option to buy and sell more
  • A generous employer pension contribution of 15%
  • Access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • Attractive salary that's reviewed annually
  • Private medical insurance
  • Bike lockers and shower facilities

About the GMC

We work with doctors, physician associates (PAs), anaesthesia associates (AAs), those they care for and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors, PAs, AAs and their educators need to meet, and help them achieve them. If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors, PAs, or AAs may be at risk, we can investigate, and take action if needed.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent, and free from discrimination. We are committed to the Disability Confident employer scheme and support its principles. However, please note that although we are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, the Disability Confident interview scheme will not be applied for this role on this occasion.

The GMC is a charity registered in England and Wales (1089278) and Scotland (SC037750)
