About You

Our Location

We are based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, so we are easily accessible by road and rail. In this role, there is plenty of scope for working from home, you will be required to attend the Hatfield office once a week and monthly directorate meetings. In addition, the charity meets four times annually at its office in Hatfield (or a location in London) for its’ ‘All Staff Together’ days, at which attendance is mandatory.

ACCESS TO A CAR AND A CLEAN FULL DRIVING LICENCE IS A REQUIREMENT OF THIS POSITION

We are looking for a competent person to support successful discharge of older people from hospital. You will be trained to undertake pre-discharge home assessments to identify any risks or barriers to discharge.

This is a non-clinical role, but you will be supported by Age UK management and clinical therapists within the hospital and community settings. The service aims to reduce the risk of a failed discharge, readmission or falls in the home environment.

Job Description

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Senior Research Manager to manage the monitoring, evaluation and learning activities of a high profile National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio of translational, clinical and applied health research infrastructure funding schemes. 

Job Purpose 
Reporting to the Assistant Director, the post holder will work closely with the rest of the infrastructure team (especially the Programme Leads and Senior Research Managers who are responsible for the development and management of the infrastructure schemes), and with Data Analytics colleagues (who are responsible for designing systems for capturing, cleaning and presenting data), to manage the infrastructure reporting and evaluation activities. At an award level, you will develop, improve and maintain monitoring and reporting processes, and at a scheme level, you will implement monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches, including overseeing the delivery and/or commissioning of impact evaluations. You will support a wider programme around visibility and the strategic use of data within infrastructure, considering links to policy directives around Busting Bureaucracy, the developing NIHR digital strategy and system operability issues with NHS and University systems. 

You will be adept at dealing with an array of data sources (metrics, narrative and financial reporting information), have a good understanding of research impact, an understanding of the routes to achieving it, and how to apply monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches to generate insight that can evidence impact and support continuous improvement of scheme funding and support processes. You will have experience of managing complex projects, knowledge of the UK’s research environment and political agenda, and honed skills in stakeholder management. You will be a strategic thinker, capable of seeing the issues and solutions from a number of different stakeholder perspectives to see the bigger picture. You will be comfortable dealing with complexity and developing an approach to balance the needs of different stakeholders. You will be a team player, able to work in close partnership with a number of teams at NIHR and the DHSC.

Key Accountabilities:

• Manage elements of the infrastructure monitoring processes: you will manage parts of the infrastructure reporting process both internally at the technical systems level and externally with users to support training and propose improvements. You will work with others to develop new reporting processes (for new awards), maintain existing annual and quarterly reporting, support the review of submitted reports by the team and the production of feedback, and drive process improvements through a continuous improvement cycle.

• Development of reporting outputs: support quantitative and qualitative data interrogation in projects across the infrastructure. Interrogating data to support strategic reviews, and, where feasible and appropriate, designing visual dashboards of progress using data collected and collated for reporting purposes. Also draw on award level reported data to feed into strategic scheme level evaluations and reviews, to produce impact case studies, and to feed into organisational level learning and reporting. This work will help articulate the contribution of the NIHR infrastructure to the wider health and social care system as well as feeding into broader NIHR initiatives such as the NIHR Impact Programme.

• Scheme reviews: support the delivery of scheme mid-term reviews and evaluations, working closely with the infrastructure team’s Senior Research Managers responsible for specific schemes and the central Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team to design and plan an appropriate review process for individual schemes.

• Stakeholder engagement: through appropriate stakeholder engagement, developing a sound understanding of data needs, minimising additional requirements of key stakeholders and understanding the types of reporting outputs/feedback that would provide the greatest utility for accountability and learning purposes. Proactively share key learnings across the infrastructure team and with wider stakeholder groups as appropriate.

• Flexible support to the team:  flexible approach to work tasks with ability to ‘muck in’ and provide support on additional tasks across the team during busy times.

Line Management:

• The post holder will be responsible for the line management of one Research Manager and will matrix manage other team members, where appropriate.

Qualifications

Experience and Technical Skills

Required Criteria: 

• A PhD degree in biomedical or health sciences research (or significant equivalent sector experience)
• Experience of implementation or management of monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches including impact assessment and reporting, ideally within health and care research
• Data collection, collation and analysis skills using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies
• Current knowledge of the UK’s health and care research and policy landscape
• Strategic thinker able to interpret complex information while having a clear view of the “big picture”
• Solutions orientated with evidence of delivering projects, requiring evidence synthesis, report writing and developing implementable recommendations

Desirable Criteria:

• Specialist training/knowledge in monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches and methods
• Experience of authoring high quality impact reports and case study reports for a variety of technical and general audiences
• Experience of developing electronic dashboards using visualisation tools such as Qlik Sense, Looker Studio or equivalents
• Line management and staff development experience

Our wraparound offer of services supports young people to develop the skills and confidence to take control of their lives, feel connected and develop a sense of belonging in their community. Young People are at the heart of what we do, we have an exciting opportunity to join our team on a new project overseen by national partners focussed on reducing youth violence. Training and support will be provided by national partners to project leads and young people to understand the model, with opportunity to network and learn from other projects over the two years.
 
Overall purpose of the role:
 
As our Participatory Research lead you will lead on the research element of the project alongside young people (design, fieldwork, analysis and reporting) to better understand and find solutions to young people’s experiences of violence in children’s services by carrying out research with up to 500 children and young people with lived experience of children’s services using different methods. You’ll work to produce a range of output materials sharing research findings and take a lead role in disseminating learning to stimulate and influence social action to local and national stakeholders. You’ll work closely with our new Youth Participation and Social Action lead to develop and oversee the project with support from our leadership team. You will also support the development of a small team of young people in paid peer research roles and provide training, mentoring and guidance to develop young people's skills, confidence and cultivate a supportive group dynamic.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Improvement Fellow to join the Health Foundation’s Insight & Analysis Unit. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of health and care by leading research and analysis that informs policy, influences practice and drives meaningful change.

Location: Will be working in shopping centres, train stations and other locations throughout London and surrounding areas (ideally, candidates should be based within London or the surrounding area)

What skills will I need?

You will already have well established relationships with Welsh Government Departments, other funders and the voluntary and community sector and you will use this to share learning and insight from our funding, lead consultations and identify opportunities for future collaboration. You will convene both grantholder and stakeholder networks to inform our analysis and ensure that community voice is at the heart of our decision-making. 

Working with our Funding Team you will ensure we provide first class customer support leading our advice service and working closely in support of our outreach work, ensuring an appropriate level of general and targeting applicant and customer support. 

You will be part of a policy and practice network across the Fund, working collaboratively with colleagues across the UK to develop One-Fund approaches to our missions. 

We’re looking for someone who is values-driven, passionate about the Fund’s purpose and deeply committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and environmental responsibility. You will have a strong track record of influencing at a senior level and be able to articulate strategic ambitions clearly and effectively.  You will also have a nuanced understanding of the role of a non-Departmental Public Body in the policy landscape and experience of working collaboratively across organisational boundaries.  As a member of the Wales Leadership Team, you will provide inspiring leadership and strategic direction to the wider team.

We are looking for a creative content and technology focused individual that will lead on the operational management and strategic optimisation of CRUK's digital asset management (DAM)/content repository system.

You will play a pivotal role in seeking opportunities to drive asset management efficiencies, collaborating closely with Creative Operations, Content Excellence and Technology teams to improve the value of CRUK's DAM system and its related technology and process dependencies. This is an exciting period of digital transformation within Cancer Research UK so the priority focus will be the implementation of new functionality in the DAM as well as optimising asset and system foundations to enable technology and processes to scale and deliver the right content in the best ways for our audiences.

What will I be doing?

• Own the operational management and administration of CRUK's organisational-wide digital asset management (DAM) system

• Be the central point of contact for teams around digital asset related enquiries

• Upload, audit and archive digital assets in the DAM system

• Lead and develop asset governance, compliance guidance and related cross-functional digital asset processes

• Collaborate with the Taxonomy Manager to align and optimise taxonomy structures across various technology platforms and ensure best practice taxonomy and tagging guidelines are followed when uploading assets

• Play a strategic role in scoping, driving and implementing the right tooling and ongoing wider processes around digital asset management

• Drive the implementation and ongoing development of the DAM system's transformation and integration with key owned channels

What are you looking for?

• Significant experience of organising and managing brand and digital creative assets (e.g. photography, video, logos, infographics), using a digital asset management (DAM) software system or similar type of creative/content library

• In-depth knowledge of asset tagging, categorisation and taxonomy principles and best practices around asset management, governance and reporting

• Sound expertise in asset licensing and managing compliance and asset usage rights and permissions, spanning photography, video, audio and brand

• Strong technology skills and experience of owning the administration, configuration and optimisation of tools and systems within a creative and content environment

• Solid awareness of different creative artwork formats across print and digital and how these fit into/work within digital asset and technology ecosystems

• Experience of shaping and delivering tooling and process optimisations in complex and large business environments

We are recruiting a Standards Policy Officer to join our small and friendly Standards and Regulation team.

About the role

The role of the Standards and Regulation function is to monitor newspaper, magazine and digital publishers’ compliance with the Editors’ Code of Practice and to take action to address concerns about editorial standards, including by undertaking investigations into serious standards failures as necessary. It’s a busy team that coordinates closely with others at IPSO and outside the organisation, engaging with members of the public, journalists, and experts on a wide variety of subjects. Some recent issues that the standards team has worked on are reporting of sexual offences, suicide, major incidents, and domestic abuse.

As the Standards Policy Officer, you will carry out a range of tasks, including analysing information drawn from complaints received by IPSO, supporting the annual statements process and engaging with a range of representative groups who have concerns about press reporting. You will work closely with the Head of Standards and other colleagues across IPSO.

This is a role for someone who is interested in news and journalism, has excellent communication and analytical skills, and enjoys working with others to achieve a shared purpose. Candidates who demonstrate relevant experience will be given an opportunity to demonstrate their skills through a written exercise prior to short-listing for interview. This means that we can measure candidates’ relevant skills directly and make a fairer decision on which applications to take forward.
