Retail Lead Volunteer - PDSA

Could you support your local PDSA shop - and help us care for the pets of people in need? 

Every PDSA shop needs an amazing team of volunteers to make it a success and we’re on the lookout for people to join us. 

Our shops raise funds to support our 48 pet hospitals and increase awareness of the work we do to get the nation PetWise. 

With some roles, you may have the opportunity to become a Lead Volunteer or to gain a nationally recognised qualification (NVQ). Lead Volunteers are trained in all aspects of running the shop and can deputise for the manager, so this is a fantastic opportunity that would really enhance your CV. There are many different ways you can help and even a couple of hours a week will make a difference. 

This is a varied and responsible role where you’ll be supporting the Shop Manager and Assistant with the day-to-day running of the shop. You’ll be encouraged to lead on new projects and may be asked to provide cover when the Manager is absent from the shop.

Filling Good is a community-led sustainable retail community benefit society on a mission to reduce waste, promote ethical consumption, and support local, eco-conscious producers. Based in Maidenhead, we are passionate about empowering our members and customers to live more sustainably. We are looking for volunteer retail assistants to help run the shop. The shifts are from 9.45 am until 1.45 pm or 1.30 pm to 5.30 pm and we are open Tuesday to Saturday 10 - 5 (and on Sundays but shorter hours).  You will be serving customers, refilling food dispensers, receiving and processing deliveries, liaising with other volunteers and helping make Maidenhead residents follow a more sustainable lifestyle.

Quizzes are held at:

• The Barn Owl, Quedgeley – 6pm on the last Sunday of the month
• The Old Crown Inn, Uley – 7pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month

1. Host – Read out the questions, keep scores, announce winners and keep things lively.
2. Welcome Lead – Sign in teams, sell raffle tickets and help answer any queries.

Overview

Julie’s Bicycle is seeking an outstanding Chair, Treasurer, and new Trustees to join our Board and help lead our pioneering not-for-profit organisation mobilising the arts and culture to take action on the climate, nature, and justice crisis.

Working closely with CEO and Founder Alison Tickell, Managing Director Laura Pando, and a committed team, our Board provides strategic vision, governance, and advocacy – championing the role of culture in creating a fair, sustainable future.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in climate change, policy, diplomacy, or finance, and who share our commitment to justice, inclusion, and the power of culture to drive change.

Terms of Appointment

An initial three-year term. Board members may be re-appointed to the Board of Trustees up to a maximum of two terms.

Location

Hybrid. Board and Subcommittee meetings are held either in person (primarily in London or at venues across the UK) or remotely.

Remuneration

This is a voluntary, unpaid position. Reasonable expenses, such as travel costs, will be reimbursed where applicable.

Time Commitment

• Chair: 2-3 days per month
• Treasurer: 1-2 days per month

Are you skilled with a camera? Do you enjoy taking pet photos? Then you might be who we are looking for! We’re seeking volunteers to take high-quality pictures of cats in our care to use for advertising on our website and social media. Experience of cats with different personalities and temperaments is beneficial, and this role will require some travel within our branch area.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Communicating with others to obtain photos and videos
• Organising photos and videos provided by others
• Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection
• Ensuring that content meets with internal and external policies and guidelines

At RSPCA Buckinghamshire South Branch, we are looking for a highly efficient administrator to help our busy team with essential admin tasks. • Answering enquiries over the telephone, by email, and by letter.

As a trap, neuter and return (TNR) lead volunteer you will make a vital contribution to maintaining a healthy population of feral and community cats and will help alleviate cat welfare and community problems caused by uncontrolled cat populations. You will lead a team of TNR volunteers in your local area, who in turn will help reduce the number of unwanted cats.

• Engaging with local communities, local businesses, landowners and farmers to promote the neutering of cats in their locality
• Engaging with vets to promote and arrange neutering

Time expectation

This is a flexible role and the hours will vary depending on the number of cats identified for specific TNR campaigns. Our current TNR lead volunteers spend about 10 hours per week in this role which can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

We are looking for friendly, empathic volunteers to run our pet food bank, helping more animals stay with their families. The food bank is at Starbucks in Stroud town centre from 10am on the third Thursday of the month.

What you'll be doing:

Costs for pet insurance, food, and vet bills have soared over recent years, and every day we receive calls from people no longer able to afford their pet's care. To try and help keep animals in their homes with their own people, we run a pet food bank to provide people with dog or cat food.

You'll talk to people about their animals, offer support and hand out food. There's no means testing and food is available to all who ask. We will provide all you need to run the food bank including the food, leaflets and charity shop vouchers.

What you'll need:

• A friendly, non-judgemental manner

• A good listener, able to talk to others in a sensitive way

• A desire to help people and their pets

• Undertaking shop related tasks agreed with the Manager, for example:
• Selecting, sorting, and pricing donated stock.
• Chatting to customers, giving great service on the till.
• Researching valuable and vintage stock.
• Visual merchandising: creating eye-catching window and in-store displays.
• Photographing and listing items for the online shop.
• This role may include occasionally lifting boxes. We prioritise a safe working environment and provide comprehensive health and safety training to all volunteers.

Make a difference to the lives of rescue cats! We have a number of roles within our cat rescue based in York. 

Home visitors

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare & quality of life for the cats & kittens in our care.

Our home visit volunteers help us to assess each home environment and a families circumstances to ensure our cats are suitably matched to their new family. This is a vital step in our rehoming process to ensure our cats get the happy ending they deserve.​

You can dedicate as much or as little of your free time to this role- picking up outstanding home visits as and when you can.

This role can also be done remotely (from home) if necessary or preferred.

We rely on our fantastic team of dedicated volunteers to continue our work and would love for you to join us.

Fundraising

We are looking for cat loving people with a little free time and lots of ideas to join our fundraising team!
 

This role includes all aspects of fundraising including organising and taking charge of ideas/ events with the support of the wider team and helping out at events. 

We need your help to raise much needed funds to support the work that we do and help give cats and kittens in need a better future. 

Fostering

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare and quality of life of cats & kittens in our care.​

We are looking for people to join our wonderful supportive team of foster carers! 

Caring for cats/ kittens in your home while they undergo rehabilitation and wait to be adopted doesn't cost you a penny. We provide full training & support along the way.

Transport Volunteers

We are always looking for transport volunteers to join our team. This role involves transporting animals, equipment and donations too and from various locations in and around the York area. We may also occasionally need help transporting cats and equipment from further afield. 

The Together Project

Established in 2018, the Together Project is a community outreach project delivered by a team of volunteer vets and non-clinical volunteers to provide non-judgmental veterinary advice, treatment and care to the pets of vulnerably housed and homeless people in Bath. Working in partnership with local homeless charities Julian House and Genesis Trust, the team understands the strong bond between an owner and a pet, and that for many, a pet can be a lifeline, so they aim to do whatever they can to keep these beloved pets together with their owners.

We are seeking kind, empathetic and understanding volunteers to join our award-winning Together Project team and would love to hear from vets and vet nurses (RVN) interested in joining the project. 

About the Role

Currently the Together Project team run one clinic per month at Genesis on the Canal in Widcombe on a Friday morning.As our clinic has steadily become busier in recent months, we aim to help more pets by offering a second clinic at the Julian House day centre drop in session on Tuesdays at the Salvation Army in Bath. However, we need more volunteers to make this happen! We are particularly interested to hear from vets and nurses available on Tuesdays 11am-1pm.

During a clinic, the volunteers will:

• Earn trust from people in marginalised communities by demonstrating true care for their pets
• Register new service users and encourage their attendance at monthly clinics, promoting responsible pet ownership regardless of living situation
• Catch up with service users and their pets, building relationships and ensuring consistency of treatment where possible
• Provide preventative treatment such as vaccinations and parasite treatment
• Provide treatment for illness and injury, as well as emergency intervention when necessary
• Act as ambassadors for the project and Bath Cats & Dogs Home

About You

We would love to hear from vets and vet nurses who can give 2 hours every other month to support the Together Project. You will need to be outgoing, approachable and have an understanding nature as trust from Together Project service users is hard-won and not guaranteed.

This is an exciting opportunity for vets and vet nurses interested in applying their knowledge and experience to an outreach programme aiming to improve the lives of marginalised people and empowering them to best care for their beloved pets. Taking your clinical knowledge out of the practice and into the community, you will be reaching out to people who love their pets wholeheartedly but may not feel able to ask for help.
