Role 1 - Researcher or Senior Researcher (Permanent)

The Fabian Society is hiring a Researcher or Senior Researcher to lead on important, high-impact research projects, engaging directly with the government and stakeholders. You will:

• Develop project ideas and help secure funding from trusts and foundations, unions, charities, businesses and other funders.
• Write research and policy papers.
• Meet with leading politicians, advisors, sector experts and campaigners to discuss your research and debate new policy ideas.
• Write articles for leading media outlets and seek coverage and broadcast opportunities for your work.
• Represent the society and present your research at events and conferences.

We will look favourably on certain policy specialisms but we also value candidates who can become experts quickly. Role 2 - Research Assistant (Fixed Term 12 Month Contract)

The Fabian Society is also hiring a Research Assistant on a 12-month development contract to support the new Fabian Housing Centre, as well as wider projects across the research team. 

You will undertake a wide range of activities, and contribute to the development of high-quality research reports, working closely with our Research Manager and Head of the Fabian Housing Centre.

Community & Co-Production

• Work with our members (services users - people with brain injury), volunteers and staff to co-create content that reflects their voices and experiences.
• Ensure accessibility is embedded in all communications, including use of plain English, inclusive visuals, and a variety of formats.
• Engage the wider Headway East London community in developing campaigns, storytelling, and communications planning.

 Campaigns, Partnerships & Income Generation

• Support fundraising and development teams to plan and deliver digital campaigns that increase donations, engagement and awareness.

• Explore opportunities for brand development, partnerships and earned media that align with our values and strategic priorities.

• Maintain and strengthen relationships with local and national media outlets and stakeholders

Internal Communications

• Support internal communication needs across the organisation, helping teams stay informed and connected across multiple sites.

1. Job Purpose

The Senior Mental Health Support Worker will provide time-limited, one-to-one emotional and practical support to individuals experiencing low to moderate mental health challenges, including those with complex needs. This role involves conducting initial referral needs and risk assessments, developing personalised support plans, and delivering face-to-face, remote, and, in rare cases, home-based support.

The postholder will also take a lead role in supporting and supervising 1-1 Support Buddy volunteers, ensuring they are well-trained, supported, and delivering high-quality interventions. Additionally, the role requires managing complex cases, offering tailored interventions, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure appropriate care pathways are in place.

The successful candidate will be a compassionate and skilled professional with a strong commitment to empowering service users, improving mental health and well-being, and ensuring individuals receive the right support at the right time.

2. Main Duties and Responsibilities

Client Assessment and Support Planning:

• Conduct initial referral needs and risk assessments to determine service user requirements and level of need.
• Develop and implement personalised support plans, setting clear and achievable objectives.

Beyond leading your assigned project, you’ll play an important role in supporting effective resource and dependency management across the wider programme. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues to coordinate delivery, align priorities, and ensure interdependencies are actively managed.

You’ll also be part of a team that’s shaping how we deliver change across the organisation – championing best practice in project management, encouraging cross-functional working, and contributing to continuous improvement as we build a stronger, more agile MS Society.

We are looking for someone with

• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects, including budget management of over £250k
• Experience of leading project delivery teams
• Skilled in working across cross-functional teams to align around shared goals
• Proficient in both waterfall and agile project management methodologies, with the ability to apply a blended approach
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, build trust, and maintain effective relationships
• Strong problem-solving, planning, prioritisation, and time management abilities
• Confident in assessing risks and issues accurately and taking appropriate action
• Knowledge of data platforms and CRM technologies is desirable
