We are looking for an ambitious, experienced Head of Brand Marketing, who has a strategic mindset and is motivated by commercial creativity. Reporting into the Marketing Director, the role will lead CALM’s brand marketing to drive awareness, deepen understanding of CALM’s mission and to inspire action to change culture and ultimately prevent suicide. They will be responsible for the strategic direction, creative leadership and guardianship of the CALM brand — ensuring our campaigns, partnerships and marketing communications are bold, distinctive, integrated and achieve real impact.

Responsibilities

Brand Strategy & Leadership

• Own and evolve CALM’s brand strategy, ensuring it aligns with organisational goals and keeps CALM culturally relevant and distinctive.

• Lead on long-term brand positioning, audience strategy and messaging frameworks that build understanding of CALM’s mission and grow awareness, trust and engagement.

• Champion insight-led decision making — using audience, behavioural and brand tracking data to inform strategy, planning and creative direction.

• Partner with the Services team to drive attitudinal and behavioural change, as well as the Fundraising team to grow income, through an integrated marketing approach.

• Act as brand guardian — ensuring a consistent and compelling tone of voice, visual identity and narrative across all CALM activity and partnerships.

• Build brand literacy across CALM, enabling colleagues and partners to understand and apply the brand effectively.

Campaign & Creative Direction

• Oversee development and delivery of integrated brand campaigns that capture public attention and drive measurable shifts in awareness, engagement and action.

• Set strategic direction, creative standards and success measures for major campaigns and brand moments.

• Lead collaboration between in-house teams, agencies and partners to deliver brave, high-impact creative work.

• Ensure all campaign and partnership activations deliver meaningful value and reinforce CALM’s strategic priorities.

Partnerships & Brand Growth

• Work closely with Partnerships Director to shape and evaluate brand collaborations — ensuring external activity amplifies CALM’s message while protecting brand integrity.

• Develop frameworks for assessing new brand and media partnership opportunities based on reach, relevance and values alignment.

• Represent CALM’s brand voice externally with media, creative and commercial partners.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead and inspire a high-performing Brand Marketing team, providing clear direction, coaching and development opportunities.

• Line manage Head of Creative Operations, Brand & Campaigns Lead and Creative Lead, supporting them to achieve their objectives.

• Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration and accountability across the wider MarComms function.

• Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring best-in-class delivery within agreed targets.

• Contribute as part of the MarComms senior leadership team to overall strategy, planning and organisational development.

• Promote and role model collaborative working across the team and with other teams.

• Demonstrate cross-organisational leadership.

• Confidently represent CALM at key meetings and events.

The Role

With increased resources allocated to diversifying income, this post would suit someone interested in a start-up project focused on building individual giving from scratch, including regular and one-off donations, cultivating donors, including major donors, coordinating and developing event-based fundraising, and legacy-based giving.

You would manage a small team od two and work with the Senior Trust Fundraiser to provide support to other Strategic Programme leads, to ensure they maintain a high standard of reporting to trusts and foundations.

Job Overview
The External Relations (ER) department is comprised of three main but complementary functional areas: Private fundraising, Communications, and Advocacy. The main objective of the department is to enable the organisation to have the resources needed to continue serving  millions of people worldwide in places affected by war and disaster.

The Director of UK Philanthropy will provide leadership and strategic direction for individual high net worth fundraising activities focused on the UK market, ensuring the delivery of significant, multi-year resources for the IRC's global mission. The Director will also serve as the primary high-value fundraising partner to the UK Executive Director as they facilitate cross-team collaboration, accountability, and success among all private fundraising teams in the UK (Philanthropy, Global Corporate Partnerships, Foundations & Trusts, and Mass Markets). This role will be responsible for:
•  Leading a team of fundraising professionals focused on raising unrestricted and restricted contributions from High-Net-Worth Individuals.
•  Managing a personal portfolio of significant donors and partners focused on securing six and seven-figure commitments.

Major Responsibilities

Fundraising and Partnerships
•  Manage a focused, complex portfolio of individual high-value prospects and supporters that results in increasing gifts at the six and seven-figure level.
•  Design and execute customised fundraising and partnership strategies for their personal portfolio, to maximise size and impact of gifts to the IRC.
•  Travel and meet with donors and prospects across the UK and occasionally internationally as required.
•  Achieve personal and team-wide goals and metrics related to visits, solicitations, gifts/pledges closed, and other critical key performance indicators.
•  Serve as the primary staff liaison and resource for the IRC's UK Board on all matters relating to philanthropy and partnerships, ensuring their engagement is maximised for fundraising impact.

Leadership and Management
•  Lead and directly supervise a team of approximately 3 individuals across the UK-based Philanthropy team, inspiring, motivating and challenging them through active mentorship and fostering an environment that supports new ideas and innovative approaches to donor relationship management.
•  Provide comprehensive thought leadership for the team's efforts towards increased financial revenue and other modes of private sector engagement that support the impactful delivery of the IRC's mission.
•  Partner with the Senior Director of International Philanthropy to develop a strategic plan, including setting annual goals and key outcomes for the team. This will include but is not limited to collaborating with the UK Board and Senior IRC leadership in identifying, cultivating, and stewarding donors through strategic engagement opportunities such as meetings and events.
•  Provide strategic oversight and manage collaboration between the UK-based leads of the Foundations and Trusts, Global Corporate Partnerships, and Mass Markets teams, ensuring strong coordination in executing comprehensive donor engagement strategies across the UK market. 
•  Collaborate as a peer with other UK leaders on the UK Senior Management Team, holding collective accountability for achieving the goals of the UK strategy and advising on the wider management of IRC UK to support those goals. 

Executive and Global Collaboration
•  Proactively drive the UK Executive Director's fundraising activities, including identifying and vetting high-level engagement opportunities, preparing briefing materials, and ensuring excellent donor/partner stewardship.
•  Interface and collaborate superbly with US-based colleagues in External Relations to ensure consistent messaging, coordinated prospect management, and alignment with global fundraising priorities.
•  Facilitate the deployment of IRC leaders (including the UK ED and global Executive Board and programme leadership) throughout the donor life cycle to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward five, six, and seven-figure commitments.

Candidate Requirements

•  Significant demonstrable years progressive experience or proven background of non-profit fundraising experience and expertise in high-net-worth individual fundraising, and/or foundation/trust/corporate partnership development.
•  Demonstrated history of being an empowering and supportive manager to front-line fundraisers.
•  Outstanding communication skills, including writing, listening, verbal presentation, and speaking.

Preferred Experience & Skills
•  Consistent track record of securing 6 and 7+ figure gifts/partnerships from a complex portfolio of diverse donors and prospects, including qualifying prospects and upgrading donors.
•  Proven organisational leadership experience, for example on senior management teams. 
•  Experience in international organisational collaboration, including interfacing effectively with leadership and colleagues based in other countries.
•  Proven experience leading and directly supervising front-line fundraisers.
•  Experience in leveraging and managing a Board or high-level volunteer leadership for fundraising success.
•  Ability to develop creative and multifaceted donor strategy often carried out in partnership with programme staff or senior leadership.
•  Ability to navigate CRM systems.

We are looking for someone with NVQ Level 4 in Care (or equivalent) or at least two years' experience in a mental health setting. You will bring a strong understanding of mental health issues, recovery, and co-production principles, alongside experience of working collaboratively with professionals, services, and communities. Knowledge of care planning, risk assessment, recovery tools, and the Mental Health Act is essential, as are excellent communication, relationship-building, and group facilitation skills. You should be confident using IT systems, resilient and adaptable, able to work independently or as part of a team, and committed to person-centred, trauma-informed practice.

THE CHARITY

Suicide is the leading cause of death of men under 35 and three quarters of those who die by suicide are men. James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.

James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it.   

James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.  We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 4,300 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need.

In early 2026 we will be opening our fourth centre in Birmingham. Our new centre in Birmingham will be there to support suicidal men living in the West Midlands.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are expanding our team of clinicians to deliver our clinically proven intervention at our James’ Place centre in London. As a Suicide Prevention Therapist, you will be an experienced mental health professional or therapist with demonstrable interest in suicide prevention. You will support men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis and their supporter(s), delivering our unique intervention and co-producing effective safety plans to maintain their safety. Training and support will be provided by the Head of Centre in London and the wider James’ Place team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

• Conduct initial Welcome Assessments with men in a suicidal crisis, assessing risk and the suitability of the James’ Place intervention and co-producing effective safety plans
• Deliver our therapeutic intervention over 6-8 face-to-face sessions, building trust and exploring the reasons for crisis
• Use the Lay Your Cards on the Table intervention to encourage men to talk about and explore their feelings, attitudes and behaviours and develop positive coping strategies
• Take full clinical responsibility of the men under James’ Place care, as a member of the clinical team and in consultation with Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist and Head of Centre when needed
• Escalate care to appropriate services when necessary, including emergency services and secondary mental health teams
• Deliver one-off guidance sessions to supporters of men under the James’ Place care
• Work collaboratively with other professionals to coordinate comprehensive care
• Demonstrate self-awareness and regularly dedicate time and space, inside and outside of work, to keeping yourself well
• Undergo clinical supervision with a qualified supervisor to reflect on clinical work and raise any issues or concerns arising from work
• Remain up to date with developments in law, theories and research
• Engage in peer support sessions, caseload discussions and Reflective Practice with the team
• Contribute to an environment in which confidentiality, privacy and dignity are respected and be clear with clients about limits of confidentiality
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards

The role requires someone with a relevant qualification who can confidently support men experiencing a suicidal crisis.
