Bipolar is a severe mental health condition, characterised by extreme mood changes that range from manic highs to suicidal lows, affecting 2% of the UK population, and we are seeking a candidate who can work as part of our developing engagement in research, alongside our dedicated team of staff and volunteers in realising our ambition of making a far reaching and meaningful difference to the everyday lives of those impacted by Bipolar.
The Postdoctoral Research Manager will assist the Director of Research in running Bipolar UK’s Research Division:
- working with the charity and its multiple partner projects and collaborators to deliver on our current research commitments
- to develop the long-term sustainability of the Bipolar UK Research Division
This is an exciting role which will combine overseeing and managing existing and prospective research partnerships with research teams around the country and world, and taking part in the development of Bipolar UK-led research.
Current research partners include teams at UCL, Oxford, Cardiff and the GW4 Alliance, Swansea, King’s College London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Lancaster, Liverpool, together with international organisations such as The Global Bipolar Cohort and the International Society for Bipolar Disorders. Our aim at Bipolar UK is to integrate research into the charity in a way which combines more traditional elements of facilitating lived experience involvement alongside actively contributing to and directing research. We are also striving to increase awareness of bipolar and to campaign for more bipolar-specific research, addressing the ‘bipolar gap’ within research and services.
Bipolar UK is very much a user-driven organisation. Approximately one-third of our staff, including our Director of Research, have lived experience of bipolar themselves, while many more have lived experience through family or close friends. Although lived experience is not essential for this role, we especially welcome applications from those with lived experience of bipolar and will expect anyone who takes on this role to have insight into the needs and priorities of the bipolar community, and a commitment to undertaking research which focuses on bipolar.

Role Purpose
Winston’s Wish is a digital first organisation leading the way in Digital Transformation across the Bereavement sector. This role is new and exciting and will play a vital part in helping Winston’s Wish turn up the dial across our high value fundraising.
As Philanthropy Manager you will be responsible for growing income from major donors and Trusts and Foundations through excellent donor stewardship. Leading a team of committed Trust fundraisers, you will focus on identifying prospective individual donors and foundations and develop lasting relationships with them. Main Responsibilities
Leadership
- To lead and inspire the Philanthropy team fostering a collaborative and high culture that delivers against income and objectives.
- Provide clear and supportive leadership that motivates staff to achieve, develop and grow in their roles.
- Undertake quarterly reviews for all direct reports.
Philanthropy Fundraising
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with high-value donors, ensuring effective solicitation, stewardship, and follow-up to secure significant contributions (six-figure gifts).
- Build and maintain a portfolio of Trust & Grants supporters. Responsible for researching, approaching and developing compelling applications with a focus on ensuring Trusts & Grants provide a long-term, diverse and sustainable income stream.
- Lead the development and stewardship of the Philanthropy board to identify and secure transformational (6-7 figure) gifts and the development of the Business development Board to open opportunities with Corporate Partners.
- Write and design a compelling case for support that is tailored to our High Value audiences.
- Lead on planning and delivering successful high value cultivation events.
- Represent Winston’s Wish at fundraising events and meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- You will identify new major donors and Trusts and Foundations who have the potential to make a significant difference to the lives of grieving children. You will develop and implement cultivation strategies to turn prospects into supporters.

Strategy, Planning and reporting
- You will work alongside the Director of Income Generation to support the development and implementation of a new Philanthropy strategy covering development of a prospect pipeline, building a culture of peer referrals, annual targets and personalised engagement plans.
- Lead on developing and delivering effective stewardship journeys and cultivation plans.
- Produce regular reports on fundraising activity, analysing performance against targets, and identifying areas for improvement and growth.
- Work with the Director of Income Generation to develop the annual budget, including leading on monthly performance reports and contributing to quarterly reforecasts and reporting against KPI’s and milestones.
- Undertake research and make use of tools to identify potential High Value partners.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Director of Income Generation, SLT and other teams to maximise high value fundraising opportunities.
- Where appropriate, you will involve Winston’s Wish senior staff and the Board of Trustees to make the most of opportunities to engage and build relationships with existing and potential supporters.

The Events Officer is a pivotal member of the Events HQ team, responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination, and execution of a diverse portfolio of events as outlined in the Events HQ roadmap. A bit about the role
As Relationship Manager, as part of a friendly and collaborative team, you will drive the community fundraising strategy with focus on the growth of unrestricted income by galvanising fundraising support from a growing sports portfolio, local corporates, volunteer fundraising groups and the public. About the Role

- Financial coding and reporting - including coding and allocation of gifts, and monthly & annual reconciliation and income reporting.

- CRM management and development - managing and updating the current CRM system (Salesforce) for the team (including training) and ensuring it is functioning as required by working closely with the CRM Manager.
