Time expectation

About Children With Voices
Children With Voices is a dynamic charity focused on empowering children and young people through creative projects, advocacy, and education. Our mission is to give young voices the platform they deserve, supporting them in building confidence and fostering positive change in their communities. As we continue to grow and expand our impact, we are looking for an experienced Senior Human Resources Manager to join us in a volunteer capacity to lead and shape our HR strategies.

Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and experienced volunteer to take on the role of Senior Human Resources Manager. This is a remote, volunteer position with the option to attend our office, located in Hackney, London, for those who prefer occasional in-person meetings. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the HR strategy, policies, and processes that support our staff and volunteers, ensuring that Children With Voices remains a supportive and inclusive workplace.

The ideal candidate will bring substantial HR experience, excellent leadership abilities, and a genuine passion for making a positive impact on the lives of children. You will work closely with the senior management team, providing strategic HR guidance and supporting the growth of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic HR Leadership

   • Develop and implement HR strategies that align with Children With Voices’ mission and values.

   • Advise the CEO and senior management team on HR-related issues, ensuring the HR function supports the organisation’s objectives.

   • Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture in line with the organisation’s ethos.

2. Recruitment and Onboarding

   • Oversee and lead the recruitment process, ensuring the organisation attracts and retains talented individuals who are passionate about our cause.

   • Manage onboarding procedures for new staff and volunteers to ensure a smooth integration into the organisation.

3. Employee Relations and Compliance

   • Provide expert advice on employee relations matters, ensuring fairness and compliance with UK employment law.

   • Offer guidance on disciplinary and grievance procedures and ensure that these processes are conducted fairly and in accordance with best practice.

   • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures to ensure consistency and fairness across the organisation.

4. Training and Development

   • Identify opportunities for training and development that will enhance the skills of both staff and volunteers.

   • Promote continuous professional development and support leadership initiatives.

   • Ensure that staff and volunteers have access to the necessary tools and resources to succeed in their roles.

5. Wellbeing and Staff Engagement

   • Lead initiatives to promote the wellbeing and mental health of all staff and volunteers.

   • Develop and implement staff engagement programmes to foster a motivated, satisfied, and high-performing workforce.

6. HR Operations and Administration

   • Oversee the day-to-day HR administration, including maintaining accurate records, supporting payroll processing (where relevant), and ensuring that employee benefits are effectively managed.

   • Develop HR reports and provide insights to support decision-making.

   • Ensure all HR activities are managed efficiently and with the highest level of confidentiality.

Key Requirements

• Experience:

  • Proven experience in HR management, with a strong understanding of employment law and best practices.

  • Experience in managing employee relations, performance management, recruitment, and organisational development.

  • Experience working with senior teams to implement HR strategies.

• Skills:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and provide strategic guidance.

  • High organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote working environment.

  • Sound knowledge of HR software and systems for managing HR functions.

  • Ability to work independently and remotely, with occasional in-person meetings as required.

• Qualifications:

  • CIPD Level 7 or equivalent HR qualification is desirable, but not essential.

  • A commitment to continuous personal and professional development.

Join us this summer to help grow a nationwide dog-walking fundraiser and support animals in need around the world. As our Volunteer Walk for Paws Co-ordinator, you’ll inspire fundraisers, spark new ideas, and help raise life-changing funds for stray dogs and cats.
 

VOLUNTEER WALK FOR PAWS CO-ORDINATOR

Location: UK (remote)
Reporting to: Head of Campaigns
Hours: Approx. 3-5 hours per week (flexible)

We’re IAPWA (International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals) - a UK-registered animal welfare charity dedicated to creating a better future for animals in need. 

Our charity is small but mighty! Since our inception in 2009 we have helped over 50,000 animals through our projects and support programmes across the globe. From managing humane dog and cat population projects to reduce the number of puppies and kittens born to suffer on the streets, to providing aid to companion animals, working donkeys, and endangered wildlife - our work is vast. And we're not slowing down any time soon.

As a small charity we can’t do what we do without the support of volunteers and fundraisers. That’s where you come in.

THE ROLE

Walk for Paws is an exciting fundraising initiative that empowers supporters to organise sponsored dog walks to raise vital funds for dogs and cats in need. This summer, we’re scaling it up to support our huge upcoming animal welfare project. We urgently need to raise money to help dogs and cats living in terrible conditions in an animal centre in Borneo - but we need your help to make it a success.

We’re looking for a passionate and proactive Volunteer Walk for Paws Co-ordinator to help grow this campaign over a 4-month period. You’ll play a key role in growing, inspiring and supporting our community of Pack Leaders - the people who run Walk for Paws events in their local area.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community fundraising and supporter engagement, while directly contributing to improving the lives of animals in need.
 

The Volunteer Walk for Paws Co-ordinator will:

• Help grow our Walk for Paws programme by identifying and reaching out to potential supporters, such as dog walking groups, community organisations, and local businesses

• Onboard new Pack Leaders, supporting them to set up and promote their Walk for Paws fundraising events

• Maintain regular, friendly communication with Pack Leaders, answering questions and helping them feel confident and supported

• Come up with creative ideas and mini campaigns to encourage more people to take part in Walk for Paws

• Track fundraising activity and work closely with IAPWA’s team to support Pack Leaders with resources and recognition

• Be an ambassador for IAPWA and the Walk for Paws initiative, helping raise awareness and support for our cause

The ideal person will be:

• A friendly, enthusiastic communicator who enjoys engaging with people and building relationships

• A self-starter who is happy working independently and bringing their own ideas to the table

• Organised and reliable, with good attention to detail and follow-up

• Passionate about animal welfare and making a difference

• Experience in fundraising, supporter care, or community outreach (even in a voluntary or informal setting) is helpful but not essential

Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

· supporting and encouraging a team of fundraising volunteers

· planning fundraising events and activities with your team

· allocating tasks before and during fundraising events

· keeping financial records from fundraising events

· encouraging and promoting a professional image of Cats Protection 

· following policies and guidelines and ensuring licences and permits are obtained for events

Time expectation

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Our challenge
The Community Fundraising Team is an integral part of The Charity Fundraising Portfolio, with an income target of £3.6 million in 2024/25 and the team consists of Community Fundraisers based across the UK. Our role is to provide fundraising advice and support to our DIY individual fundraisers, Supporter Groups, Community Organisations and Regional Corporates.

How can you help?
We are recruiting a team of Community Fundraising Volunteers to help us provide our amazing DIY individual fundraisers with the best possible experience when contacting The Charity for information or fundraising advice. We want to be able to engage with our fundraisers and respond to queries efficiently, whilst also spotting further fundraising opportunities 
for our expert team of regional Community Fundraisers.

As part of a team of Community Fundraising Admin Volunteers, you’d help us to: 
• Manage the Community Fundraising Team inboxes.
• Respond to our Fundraisers by their preferred choice, including phone, email etc.
• Identify opportunities for further engagement by the relevant Regional Community Fundraiser.
• Update our CRM with details of the Fundraiser, their DIY event and any action taken in response to their contact with us.

What impact will you have?
You’ll play a vital role in the Community Fundraising Team, helping us provide the best possible experience to our fundraisers. 

We’re looking for...
Someone who is passionate about The Charity and our vision. You’ll also need to be: 
• Proficient with IT— including CRM software & MS Outlook
• Confident and friendly with strong written and verbal communication skills
• Able to identify new opportunities to raise awareness and funds 
• A good team player who understands the importance of collaboration

Time commitment
We’d ideally be looking for volunteers to commit to volunteering for one day per week (either one full day or two half days), as ideally we are looking for cover across the full working week. The role is home based.

Practical considerations
You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and specific training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of our Senior Community Fundraisers, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers may be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!
