At Ambitious about Autism, we're currently looking for a Policy and Campaigns Officer to join our team on a part time (0.4 FTE) basis.

The postholder will have a track record of influencing policy and an understanding and passion for issues affecting autistic children and young people across a range of areas, including education, employment, health and social care. You'll gather evidence and data that will influence change, using your written and verbal communication skills to engage with a wide range of audiences on our strategic priorities and raise awareness of our work.

You'll engage with autistic children, young people and their families to understand their priorities and embed their needs in our communications and policy work. You'll identify opportunities to communicate AaA's policy position and respond to these appropriately, working closely with the communications team to draft impactful statements, as well as web and social media copy.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience of working in a policy role, ideally in a relevant sector.
• Ability to identify appropriate sources, evaluate and analyse data and evidence to provide up-to-date, accurate information.
• Experience of producing high quality policy-related documents, as well as being able to write engaging pieces for a range of audiences.
• Experience of using social and digital media to develop and promote policy work.

The organisation is expanding and is looking for a talented Communications Officer to work closely with the Director of Fundraising and Communications in a role that will be busy, hands on, and key to communicating the amazing and important work this organisation undertakes to its audiences.

Key responsibilities within the Communications Officer role will include:

• Writing engaging copy for a variety of mediums including both printed and digital
• Support the Director of Fundraising and Communications in creating and designing digital and print collateral for campaigns and events
• Lead on the design and publication of high-quality digital and print information about Dystonia UK, its services, projects, and about dystonia, the condition, and medical services.
• Work closely with the Director of Fundraising and Communications to identify and communicate key news items and be responsible for the production and dissemination of the e-marketing
• Manage Dystonia UK's social media channels on a day-to-day basis ensuring all activity is in line with the charity's brand and communication strategy and work closely with the Directors to produce and develop the social media content schedule
• Engage directly with the organisations community by drafting private messages, replying to comments, and passing actions on to other members of staff where required.
• Creating and adapting content for each channel to maximise reach and engagement.
• Work with colleagues to provide event support by creating content to promote the event, liaising with speakers and partner organisations, and attending conferences and events where required
• Plan and organise activities to raise awareness of Dystonia UK, tying in with other notable calendar events such as Dystonia Awareness Month
• Support the Director of Fundraising and Communications to ensure that the organisation's branding is upheld in all aspects of external communication.
• Support the Director of Fundraising and Communications to develop branded merchandise.
• Support the Director of Fundraising and Communications to create the annual communications plan and contribute to the development of the marketing and communications strategy.

Dystonia UK is a small charity, and this is a busy role where someone with some communications experience will have the opportunity to work closely with a dynamic Director to really develop their skills and expertise both operationally and strategically. You'll be in a position of responsibility and will be able to work autonomously whilst also working with closely with and being supported to learn.

About the role

This role is part of the trusts and statutory team of eight. The Humane Slaughter Association is a unique charity which promotes the welfare of farmed animals ‘Beyond the Farm Gate’; at markets, during transport, at slaughter, and when animals must be killed in emergencies.

Our vision is of a world where all farmed animals are transported and killed humanely and our mission is to research, advance and promote the use of humane methods for the transport, slaughter and killing of farmed animals.

We do this by offering practical advice, education, ad training to all those involved in transport, slaughter, or emergency killing of livestock animals, as well as by funding scientific research to develop more humane approaches. Although we are based in the UK, the charity is international and works worldwide.

Technical Officer – welfare assessment

The postholder for this role will become a key part of the HSA welfare assessment and training team. The team regularly undertakes welfare assessments of abattoirs, livestock markets and transport facilities to provide advice and training to ensure high standards of animal welfare. We also provide in-person training in humane slaughter and transport to those working in the industry, as well as regulators, other NGOs, staff from farm assurance schemes and others involved in the industry. Participating in agricultural shows and industry events, sharing our knowledge and advocating for humane slaughter and transport with key stakeholders are also central to our activities. HSA conferences are also an important way in which we disseminate the latest animal welfare information.

The postholder will work with the small expert team at the HSA, using their expertise to deliver welfare assessments and training, provide expert advice and organise our external activities.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Attributes

Essential

· A degree in agriculture, life science, veterinary medicine (or a related field) or equivalent professional experience.

· An understanding of the basic principles of animal welfare at slaughter.

· Comfortable working with and producing material which describes the slaughter process in detail.

· Comfortable working in abattoirs and livestock facilities.

· A diplomatic approach to dealing with controversial issues in animal welfare.

· Willingness to obtain a slaughter licence.

· A demonstrable ability to summarise complex information for a range of audiences with different levels of technical expertise.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Strong IT skills ideally including experience with MS Office and SharePoint.

· Expertise in animal welfare at slaughter and/or during transport (this expertise could have been gained though working with the livestock industry or as an educator, veterinarian, animal welfare researcher, regulator, or policymaker). 

· A postgraduate qualification, ideally in animal welfare or a related area.

· Experience of animal welfare assessment or audit.

· Understanding of the laws and regulations relating to the welfare of animals (in the UK and/or elsewhere) undergoing transport and slaughter.

· Expertise in the welfare of farmed or wild-caught aquatic animals.

· Experience of using social media including Twitter/X, LinkedIn and/or YouTube to deliver animal welfare or technical information.

· Experience of event organisation.

Personal Attributes

The candidate must be comfortable with the charity’s approach to animal welfare which includes co-operation with the livestock and slaughter industries. Whilst the HSA wishes to ensure the highest standards of welfare for animals farmed for food or other products, it does not oppose the slaughter of animals per se. Candidates must be comfortable working within the livestock industry and other key stakeholders whilst striving to ensure the humane treatment of animals undergoing transport or slaughter.

Job Benefits

Payscale: £30,493 – 41,737 (depending on experience and qualifications) Plus London weighting, where applicable.

Role:The Senior Development Officer ​plays an integral role within the Development Team at Forces Employment Charity (FEC). • Develop, prepare, and submit high quality funding applications, acting as bid writing SME.
• Peer Review support to mentor other team members.
• Work with Head of Development to increase the accuracy of our Salesforce data, resulting in data dashboards suitable to the reporting needs of our funders.
• Collaborate with Development and Senior F&R Officer to implement a team strategy and support a lean process of reporting.
• Work with Senior Finance & Reporting Officer to report impact to our funders in line in the funding requirements.
• To work closely with Head of Development to develop and implement our fundraising strategy.
• Represent the organisation at research based events, developing our understanding and enhancing our delivery.
• Identify new opportunities and working with the team to covert these to applications and funding.
• Lead on individual Giving Strategy, working with Head of Development and Development Officer to expand opportunities.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a Senior Digital Officer to join our ambitious and growing type 1 diabetes charity, JDRF, as part of the digital and marketing team. 

You will build our reach by ensuring our website is search engine optimised and will champion optimisation with all content providers across the organisation. You will build landing pages and microsites for fundraising campaigns across various platforms, complete user experience research to develop compelling user journeys and will evaluate the performance of our digital channels. Occasionally, you will also support JDRF’s paid media campaigns. 

An experienced digital professional, you may have worked for a charity before in a similar role. You will be motivated by the latest digital trends and will be familiar with a variety of digital channels. You will be ever-curious, always seeking to improve your skills and adopt new approaches.
