Our Friends Ageing Better (FAB) project is looking for volunteer hosts for our weekly FAB Phone Cafe. In this role you'll be helping to create a friendly, welcoming space and community connections with a group of older people facing isolation.

At Age UK Bristol, we want to change the way we age. We aim to keep people aged 55+ well and active, encouraging Bristol to be an Age Friendly city. Tuesdays 11:00-12:00 and 2:00-3:00pm

This role involves

• Welcoming older people who are new to the telephone group.
• Facilitating conversation in the group
• Keeping attendance sheets for group participants.
• Providing information about events and activities happening in the local area with the support of the FAB team

Due to the nature of the role, before you can begin volunteering with RSBC there are some required safeguarding checks which will need to be completed.

All RSBC volunteers undergo an Enhanced DBS check (paid for by RSBC) and must provide two references.

All volunteers will also be booked onto safeguarding training.

RSBC risk assesses all its services and activities.

This is a hands-on leadership role — a chance to shape journeys, strengthen systems, and ensure every session flows with clarity, warmth, and impact.

Your Role

As Team Leader (Employability), you will:

• Support the planning and delivery of our Employability Programme, ensuring sessions are engaging, inclusive, and transformative.

• Guide volunteers and facilitators with clarity, compassion, and structure.

• Help monitor progress, gather feedback, and ensure each participant feels seen, supported, and empowered.

• Collaborate with the Delivery Manager to uphold the emotional and operational integrity of the programme.

• Be a steward of our mission — helping adults unlock their potential through skills, confidence, and opportunity.

No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by enabling our volunteers and staff to have the right equipment and resources to do the job. As an Operational Support Team Member, you’ll support St John Ambulance in deploying equipment to events and activities within your community, as well as support the maintaining of equipment to ensure networks are properly resourced.

Through volunteering as an Operational Support Team Member, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride providing essential resources to our medical and education teams. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. Training for role - Applicants will be shortlisted and interviewed then inducted on a buddy system
