Contract: Maternity Cover, Full Time, 35 hours per week.

Salary : £51,439.00 - £57,869.00 per year with excellent benefits

Location: London, UK subject to the right to work.

UK Hybrid Working: A minimum of 40% of working time is spent face to face, either in London office, or as a result of external engagement or travel for WaterAid. WaterAid is located at Canary Wharf, London and this will be your location and contract base.

About the Team 

The Philanthropy and Trusts Team raises circa £6m per year from philanthropists, trusts and foundations. The audience is individual philanthropists (gifts over £10k per annum), and trusts and foundations (grants over £25k per annum).

About the Role: 

As Senior Philanthropy Manager (Maternity Cover) you will:

• Proactively build a personal portfolio of HNWIs and UHNWIs able to give £1m+ through relationship development, appropriate and dynamic pitching and influencing and negotiating expertise.
• Effectively line manage three direct line reports. Lead by example and support high performance, ensuring the professional and personal development goals of staff are met.
• Proactively manage, with the prospect research team, the philanthropy team’s new business pipeline to achieve team and organisational objectives, working across the Strategic Partnerships department and across the WaterAid Federation as appropriate. 
• Be the senior level contact for all aspects of event planning and delivery, supporting the Philanthropy and Events Manager to manage the strategic planning, development and running of an events programme to time and budget for the benefit of the Philanthropy and Trusts Team, and where appropriate, the wider Strategic Partnerships Department. 

Requirements

To be successful, you’ll need:  

• Proven track record of raising “Principal gifts” of £1m+.
• Proven ability to manage a successful philanthropic portfolio, achieving targets as part of a strategic plan and maximising income from existing supporters.
• Experience managing the complexities of income management and KPI’s to monitor the teams progress and growth.
• Experience of line management / supervising the work of others; leading and motivating others and driving change.
• Be confident in leading work with senior level stakeholders, both internally and externally, in order to secure significant grants and manage strategic partnerships, using tact and diplomacy. 
• Have a passion for international development, a commitment to WaterAid’s stated values and a working style that reflects these.

This role will play a leadership role in delivering our ambitious policy influencing programme, helping to shape and implement influencing plans to bring about the changes needed to reduce, prevent and eventually end the need for food banks in the UK.  It will provide management and oversight to some of our strategic projects.

Role responsibilities

· Developing and implementing Trussell’s influencing strategy

Working with teams across the organisation to ensure key groups, including our community of food banks, corporate partners, churches and church-related organisations have a clear role in our policy influencing approach.

· Planning and delivering impactful public affairs activity

Ensuring systems are in place to help plan, monitor and evaluate public affairs activity and maximise opportunities to engage with key audiences, including Parliamentarians, advisers, and UK Government Ministers; and support close working with colleagues in all UK nations and regions.  Managing the development and delivery of public affairs activity to support high profile influencing campaigns.

· Building and managing strong relationships with key external stakeholders

Developing relationships, partnerships and networks to help raise the profile, credibility and influence of Trussell and our policy positions, particularly in the UK Parliament.  Representing Trussell and promoting the organisation’s policy position to key audiences, including in meetings and events with Parliamentarians.

· Developing public affairs support to the food bank community

Working closely with a small team of Network Policy and Research Officers and the Organising and Local Mobilisation team to support our community of food banks to build and maintain strong relationships with their local MPs.  Ensuring public affairs activity is well aligned to campaign strategies involving the food bank network.

· Embedding participatory approaches across our public affairs and wider influencing activity

Supporting further development of a participatory approach to policy influencing to ensure it is rooted in the lived experience of individuals affected by poverty.  This includes ensuring an ethical approach in line with our values.

· Providing advice and line management

Have line management responsibility for individuals within the team, providing pastoral and development guidance along with task management on key projects.  This includes regular 1:1s, objective setting and collaborative monitoring, and support with development needs.

Person Specification

Technical skills and minimum knowledge:

· Track record of successfully influencing politicians and key decision-makers to achieve strategic goals at different levels of government.

· Track record of delivering strategic public affairs activity based on robust evidence, from development to evaluation.

· Can explain components of effective policy influencing, including knowledge of the machinery and structure of government (UK, devolved, local) and experience of informing campaigns activity to mobilise support for policy change.

What the job involves

We have a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and results-driven Solutions Manager to join an established development team at one of the most dynamic and fastest growing charities in the UK. 

The Solutions Technology Team are dedicated to enhancing the delivery technology solutions we provide. Data underpins the insight that informs our decisions and shapes the way we build lasting relationships with our customers — from service users and fundraisers to campaigners and volunteers. With a focus on aligning technology solutions with business needs, the Solutions Manager will review requirements and turn them into clear, actionable project plans. You’ll also manage the general maintenance of our bespoke in-house applications, which include bespoke ETL system, and front-end web applications.

You’ll be supporting the Head of Technology and Solutions with software architecture, databases support, network infrastructure, and relevant programming languages to a degree that enables you to grasp technical discussions and identify potential challenges.  Our in-house development platforms are built using PHP and Microsoft SQL Server and leverage robotic automation tools such as Toca.io and Power Automate all hosted-on Azure cloud infrastructure. 

Acting as line manager, you’ll oversee and coordinate the day-to-day work of our Solutions technology team, supporting two Developers, a Business Analyst and third-party developers to deliver projects on time and in line with business needs.

What we want from you

We’re looking for a Solutions Manager with a strong understanding of the development lifecycle, business analysis, requirements gathering, database design, optimisation, and general programming. You’ll need to be comfortable overseeing and helping to shape the architecture of our bespoke in-house applications, while taking ownership of existing systems — understanding how they’re built, how they work, and the part they play within the organisation.

You’ll have proven experience in managing teams (both in-house and external) and providing coaching and development opportunities to help your team perform at their best. Experience with both Agile methodologies and the software development lifecycle (SDLC) will be essential, as you lead the team to deliver high-quality, timely solutions.

A Programme Delivery Manager (PDM) is responsible for managing supervisors, support workers and volunteers. The Role

Working within our International Partnerships, Programmes and Research (IPPR) team, the Senior Programme Development Officer will secure income for Peace Direct through research, development and management of relationships with new and existing funders. The post holder will proactively identify new funders, write proposals and reports and steward relationships to secure and maintain the funding necessary for Peace Direct to achieve its organisational goals. This includes programmatic, research, advocacy and strategic funding, working with restricted and unrestricted grants from institutional and trust and foundation funders ranging from £1,000 to £1m+. In collaboration with others, the post holder will also accompany advise and support local partners to diversify their funding.

The role is for someone with an enthusiasm for working with funders, with a strong track record of successfully securing grants from trusts, foundations and/or institutional donors. You will have strong writing skills, exceptional attention to detail and be capable of working effectively and efficiently to tight deadlines. A strong affinity with peacebuilding and an interest in challenging the way the international cooperation and peacebuilding sectors works would be beneficial, as would language skills in French, Spanish and/or Arabic.

Main duties and responsibilities

Communications (30% of work)

• Write and publish short regular newsletters for GRP’s stakeholders, including portfolio donors, wealth adviser partners and donors to operating costs.
• Manage and publish weekly content for GRP’s social media accounts, including LinkedIn and Instagram.
• Manage and curate content for GRP website, ensuring information is accurate, up-to-date and maximising opportunities to attract new donors and supporters.
