What will you be doing?
Do you want to play your part in supporting one of the UK’s leading disability charities to achieve its ambition for growth, providing more education and long-term living opportunities for people with complex disabilities?
National Star, whose headquarters is in Gloucestershire, is seeking several people who share its vision of a world in which people with disabilities are able to realise their potential as equal and active citizens in control of their lives. As a member of the Trustee Board, you will also be a company director as the charity is also a registered company.

National Star is a Disability Confident Employer. West Cheshire Foodbank was established in 2012 to provide emergency food to people in crisis. We are part of the Trussell network of foodbanks and last financial year we provided food to 14,500 people in the 12 months to March 2025. We can only do this with the commitment of our volunteers, our small, dedicated staff team and the much-valued support of local businesses, organisations and individuals.
We are now looking for two new trustees, with relevant experience, who share our vision for a future without the need for foodbanks. You do not need previous experience as a trustee to apply for these roles.
We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and experience, particularly those who have lived experience of financial hardship and/or food insecurity. The successful candidates will be provided with an induction, training and support to help establish themselves in their roles.
Our Purpose is
- to provide relief to individuals and families in crisis in West Cheshire, through the provision of emergency food supplies.
- to provide practical, mental and spiritual support either directly or by referral to approved partner agencies to enable individuals and families avoid future crises.
- to raise awareness of the causes of food poverty and to encourage both policy-makers and local people to take action.
Participation Trustee specific responsibilities
- Ensuring WCFB practice and strategic direction is informed by the voices of people with lived experience of food insecurity and financial hardship.
- Support the WCFB strategic lead to develop and implement the Participation Framework, including periodic reviews to assess progress, learning and impact.
- Support all trustees and members of the staff team to take a participatory approach where appropriate and enact the principles of participation.
- Model a participatory way of working to ensure voices of lived experience are amplified and help inform and influence key decisions at Board level.
- Ensure trustees are informed of the impact of national and local policy changes for people using WCFB with implications for service delivery and lobbying.
- Willingness to share your experience of food insecurity and/or financial hardship, whilst recognising that your experience cannot represent a whole community.
General responsibilities of all WCFB Trustees
- Work alongside the Treasurer and the trustee board to ensure WCFB’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available as necessary.
- Ensure WCFB is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and charity law reporting requirements.
- Ensure that all charitable activities undertaken by WCFB are compliant with its charitable objectives as set out in its governing document.
- Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
- Understand and commit to WCFB’s strategic direction and mission
- Contribute to the development and review of WCFB’s strategic plan, ensuring it aligns with the needs of people struggling to afford the essentials.
- Help promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential funders, partners and people experiencing financial hardship and food insecurity.
- Ensure WCFB has appropriate procedures in place to comply with current legislation and good practice including: employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
- Act with reasonable care and skill, giving time, thought and energy to fulfil your role.
- To serve as an additional promoter of the food bank in the community.
- Attend trustee meetings and produce feedback and reports as necessary.
- Ensure decisions are informed by people experiencing financial hardship by working in a participatory and inclusive way at board level.
- Demonstrate empathy and a non-judgemental attitude.

- Is willing to actively participate in discussions concerning needs of the foodbank’s beneficiaries, staff, and the trustee board
- Will act in the best interest of the charity
- Demonstrates sound, independent, judgement and the ability to think creatively
- Works effectively as a team member and demonstrates a willingness to learn and develop

Little Village is a baby bank: a simple idea with a big impact on the lives of families living in poverty in London. Our work is vital: more than one in three children in the capital live in poverty, with profound impacts from educational disadvantage to reduced life expectancy. We invite community donations of pre-loved baby and children’s items, passing them onto families who need them and saving them from landfill. Meanwhile, our guidance and signposting service provides tailored, one-to-one support, delivered with warmth and understanding.
Families either visit a Little Village hub, or items are packed with care and delivered to their home. But it doesn’t stop there. We also connect families into a wider network of support, helping them to build and extend their own ‘village’.
Thanks to the generous donations of loved items, precious time and money, in 2023 Little Village was able to support more than 8500 children. But the demand for help still outstripped our capacity to respond week on week. This role will play a crucial part in helping us to ensure stock is where it needs to be in order to reach more children with the things they need.
Our wonderful Finance Trustee is reaching the end of her two terms, and we’re now seeking a successor to step into her very big shoes.
We’re looking for a qualified accountant who can:

Bring fresh eyes and ideas to how we do things in help us increase our effectiveness

What is the time commitment?
The charity holds four full board meetings per year in Nottingham, with each meeting lasting around 2 hours. Meetings take place quarterly on the third Thursday of October, January, April and July.
In addition, Trustees need to set aside a minimum of 2 hours reading time before each board meeting.
. The AGM follows the board meeting on the third Thursday of October, with the meeting lasting around 1.5 hours. In addition, a minimum of 1 hour reading time is required prior to the AGM.
• There may be specific occasions when a Trustee is required to attend an event to open/close it, such as our annual staff conference
• Get to know the charity’s services and infrastructure within the first 3 years/initial tenure of the post and continue to have contact with relevant departments during subsequent 3-year tenures. Feedback on service/infrastructure visits is a standard Board agenda item.
. The charity board also has a Finance & Audit Committee which has its own Terms of Reference and has meetings separate from the Full Board Meetings. The membership of this committee is determined by the Board
• Trustees serve a three-year term of office and can be re-elected to serve additional three-year terms
What training will you be given?
We offer a full induction programme and ongoing support from the charity, other Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team plus occasional external development.

The Trustee role is open to all those who are either a trained lawyer or who has a strong legal background and in addition, the Board of Trustees particularly welcomes experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Issues relating to work with, and for, older people or lived experience and potentially any of the following skills.

The Bromley Experts by Experience Secretary will play a vital role, working with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chair of Trustees. You will help the Trustee Board carry out their duties in an efficient manner, ensuring all governance documents and procedures are followed. The Secretary will ensure the smooth and efficient running of accessible trustee board meetings and will be the Trustee responsible for leading preparation, administration, and delivery of the AGM.
The Secretary will ensure the trustees recognise and complete relevant actions related to their decisions, and that all decisions made by the trustees comply with the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements the charity is subject to, are in accordance with Bromley Experts by Experience’s governing documents, reflect the aims of the charity, and continue to provide benefit to our members, beneficiaries and local Deaf and Disabled people.
Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chair of Trustees, the Secretary will ensure the charity meets all its regulatory requirements, has strong governance and foundations to enable Bromley Experts by Experience to achieve as much as we can in future.
IMPORTANT: As a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation, our governing articles require that our staff, trustees and volunteers bring with them lived experience of disability (self-identified or otherwise). See how we define this below.
Responsibilities of the Secretary:
- Prepare agendas in consultation with the Chair and CEO.
- Ensure arrangements for meetings are met including hybrid arrangements and access requirements of attendees.
- Receive agenda items from other Trustees and circulate agendas and any supporting papers in good time.
- Check that quorum is present at each meeting (including hybrid attendance)
- Minute meetings, circulate draft minutes and action points to Board members.
- Ensure the Chair signs (electronic or wet) minutes once approved.
- Check Trustees have carried out action(s) agreed.
- Circulate agendas and minutes of the annual general meeting (AGM) and any special or extraordinary general meetings.
- Ensure up-to-date records are kept of Trustee Board membership.
- Ensure the board fulfils their duties and responsibilities for effective charity governance in line with Bromley Experts by Experience’s policies and the requirements of the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
- Ensure X by X Bromley activities benefit its members and beneficiaries.
- Support and advocate for X by X Bromley’s mission, vision and values.
What we ask of you:
- The Secretary should expect to serve for a minimum of 12 months.
- The Secretary is required to attend scheduled meetings with some ad hoc meetings where necessary.
- It is anticipated that the time commitment will be an approximate average 2.5 hours per week. This will mainly comprise of:
- Board meeting attendance (plus preparation and minutes) every 8 weeks.
- AGM attendance (plus preparation and minutes)
- Supporting our annual Disability Pride event.
- Occasional scheduled meetings with senior staff and/or Chair.
- As we are a very small charity, there could be occasions when extra time will be required (e.g. during the planning of new projects or dealing with any particular difficulties that arise), or where additional support would be appreciated (e.g. attending events, meeting members at project days).
Key Skills and Qualities:
- Lived Experience of disability (can be self-identified)
- A belief that Disabled people can and should be actively welcomed and included in our communities. An understanding that it is barriers in society that make that harder. This is called the Social Model of Disability.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Experience of how Trustee Boards operate and of effective charity governance
- An understanding of how to make meetings accessible.
- Experience of minute-taking and strong record keeping skills.
- Accuracy and efficiency with an eye for detail.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, communicating in a way that is accessible to you.
- Possess and demonstrate integrity, objectivity, accountability, and honesty.
- An effective team worker, contributing an independent perspective.
- Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, the Secretary role, and the financial aspects of running a charity.
- A genuine interest in local communities and people.
- Commitment to Bromley Experts by Experience’s aims, objectives and values.
The Secretary must be legally eligible to stand as a registered Company Director and Charity Trustee. Having had previous experience as a trustee of a voluntary organisation is an advantage.
The Secretary will require a DBS Check to be completed.

We are currently recruiting for new Trustees to join Stepping Stones, a fantastic member led organisation who provide a range of mental health support services to people in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, who have mild to moderate mental health conditions. The role of a Trustee is one where the Board have responsibility and overall governance of the organisation. Being a Trustee requires commitment and engagement. Trustees meet every 6 weeks for Board meetings, they also attend the AGM and charity events and training. Whilst the preference of the Board is to meet in person, there is flexibility to attend virtual meetings when required.

Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees (SWR) is a local community based charity fully managed and staffed by volunteers. We started welcoming and supporting refugees arriving in Sevenoaks district from 2017 onwards. Across the district we provide varying levels of support to a little over 50 refugee families, made up of just over 80 adults and 70 children.
Our mission is to ensure that refugees are truly welcomed into Sevenoaks District. We support their journey to social integration and economic independence by working directly with them and others in providing language training, household goods, social activities and supporting access to public services, employment, education and housing.
We are looking for 2 new Trustees to join SWR's warm and welcoming experienced Board of Trustees. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with experience in the following: the Not for Profit sector, Education, Public sector, Strategy & Management, Diplomacy & International Aid.
SWR Trustees are responsible for the full range of Trustee duties including strategic oversight of SWR, financial accountability (we have a dedicated treasurer), planning and monitoring, transparency and accountability, safeguarding and wellbeing of refugees and volunteers, along with oversight of the Volunteer Leadership Team, the operational committee that is responsible for the day-to-day provision of services for refugees and volunteer tasking, training and wellbeing.
In addition to the formal Trustee role, most of our Trustees also undertake management roles to ensure the effective functioning of the charity. Trustees most usually work with, and manage teams of volunteers, on specific functions that include: public outreach; recruitment; safeguarding; fundraising; communications and planning.
Gendered Intelligence is looking to expand the current Board of Trustees in order to bring fresh perspectives and skills to support the vital work that we do. We are currently recruiting for up to three new trustees.
Any successful applicants will need to understand the history of, and the issues that affect trans, nonbinary and gender questioning people and our communities in the UK, either as a member of this community themselves or as a committed ally. They will also need to have a strong commitment to the values and mission of Gendered Intelligence.
Summary
- Hours: Voluntary, but Trustees are expected to commit to a minimum of 10 hrs per month
- Location: Board meetings are a mix of online and in-person, at times arranged to suit the Trustees. Ability to travel to London is necessary

Particular areas of expertise
Whilst we are looking for trustees with a broad range of skills, we are particularly interested in finding people with skills and experience in the following areas:
- Youth work. Experience as a senior or strategic practitioner, especially within vulnerable and marginalised communities.
- Legal work. This could be in human rights, discrimination, employment law or general charity law, but we are open to other areas of expertise, including regulatory, risk and governance expertise. You may not be a lawyer but could bring knowledge of legal systems more widely, or networks who can support this area as required.
- HR management experience. An experienced HR professional who can bring a strategic HR perspective to board discussions and support the GI in developing effective and inclusive people practices.
If your experience does not fall into these categories but you would still like to be considered, please do let us know. The best trustees can come from all sorts of backgrounds, and we’d love to know what your experience can offer us.
Commitment
We currently hold five scheduled Board meetings a year and occasional ad hoc meetings as deemed necessary. Additionally there is the opportunity to join subcommittees and working groups to allow deeper involvement in an area of particular interest. In order to facilitate availability for each meeting, to read all necessary paperwork in advance, and to be available to advise in your area of expertise, we consider that successful candidates should be able to commit to being available for a minimum of 10 hours per month.
Appointments are for an initial three-year term, renewable for up to two further terms.
