As our Health, Safety and Facilities Manager you will provide efficient facilities management and Health & Safety services to and for Friends of the Earth’s offices, workspaces, staff and volunteers.
We are looking for someone with experience of a broad range of facilities management across multiple sites and the ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and with different needs.
Entry level Health and Safety qualification or working towards this is essential along with up-to-date knowledge of current legislation and experience of carrying out assessments.

This role is a key holder for our offices, and the holder must be prepared to be on call in the event of an emergency.

The team:
Working closely with and managing the Facilities Assistant, you will ensure Friends of the Earth meets the required Health and Safety standards. You will be part of our vital Infrastructure team, sitting within the Finance and Operations Directorate.
The Infrastructure team is responsible for the physical and virtual platform we use to do our work, from physical premises to our network, servers and Service Desk for support issues.

This role is responsible for managing the effective functioning of the Aga Khan Centre to provide safe, efficient, secure, legally compliant and environmentally friendly spaces for residents, employees, students and visitors.
Leading a small team, the Facilities and Operations Manager will be responsible for providing a seamless support service to manage and deliver high quality proactive and reactive maintenance to a standard which is in accordance with the nature of the Aga Khan Centre and provides value for money. The role covers all aspects of repairs & maintenance including plumbing, air conditioning, electrics, building fabric, health & safety and emergency support and requires the postholder to be hands on, supporting the maintenance team with technical support, knowledge & coordination as well as executing PPM plans, managing contractors and overseeing and inspecting works.
AKC Building Operations
• Oversee and manage the teams responsible for the reception, security and cleaning.
• To prepare and keep up to date the Facilities Management (FM) Plan for AKC and the approach taken for each ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ FM service, including planned preventative maintenance and lifecycle replacements, ensuring that a suitable, safe, high-quality operating environment is provided.
• To act as a point of contact for technical support in order to reduce supplier callouts and ensure the correct supplier is allocated to resolve the problem, after issues have been looked at in-house first.
• To manage, plan and monitor the day-to-day repairs and maintenance activities of the building management team, ensuring works are completed on time, to the highest quality and in line with the approved FM plan.
• To coordinate and manage activities of suppliers working in and around AKC including checking and approving completed work, ensuring it is on budget, within agreed timescales and to the quality required.
• To act on defects highlighted in suppliers’ reports and ensure resolution following up on any unresolved issues that could affect plant or equipment performance and safety.
• To ensure the AKC maintenance reporting system is updated with work carried out and outstanding tasks. • To ensure maintenance supplies, spares and stock levels are monitored and supplies are always available. • To receive, review, store and respond to suppliers’ reports, i.e. lifts, eye bolts, water sampling, lighting protection, etc. and supply a level of technical advice to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation.
• To maintain and review equipment asset registers and update accordingly.
• Responsible for the Health and Safety policy for AKC and liaising with outsourced consultants to ensure that AKC is compliant and required checks are carried out.
• To maintain all maintenance and H&S documents, registers and systems at all times and act as knowledge-holder on behalf of AKF(UK) for Operation Manuals, as-built drawings, maintenance records, licences and operating certificates related to AKC.
• Working in conjunction with the AKC IT team and external providers be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the core building services systems including for FM, Room Booking and Security.
• To adhere to the AKC environmental policy promoting and driving energy & water saving initiatives as well as recycling initiatives at all times.
• Plan and implement minor projects to optimize space utilisation within AKC. Participate as a key stakeholder in major projects.
• Support the relationships with the tenants of the AKC retail units.
• Ensure that the gardens embedded within the AKC, and the surrounding grounds and gardens are properly cared for and landscaped.
• Liaise with the Estate Landlord and their agents regarding estate management, central services, infrastructure and security issues and maintenance of the public realm around AKC
• Liaise with other building managers on the KX Estate and maintain good neighbourly relations.
• Respond to emergency situations or other urgent issues involving AKC.
AKC Building Administration
• To prepare an annual operational plan and budget for the AKC building management team.
• To provide commentary and analysis for the monthly building management finance report and work with the Property Finance Manager to ensure that there is an up to date forecast at all times.
• To lead any supplier procurement processes related to building management.
• Monitor and approve all building management supplier invoices and staff expenses for payment in line with approved budgets. Seek additional approvals for unbudgeted or excess expenditure.
• To ensure that safeguarding processes are embedded into all building management operations, all building management supplier contracts and the building management policies and processes.
• To routinely review standards of service and ensure best practices are being followed and to benchmark the costs of AKC building management against equivalent buildings to assess and demonstrate value for money.
• Manage and maintain the SLA standards, KPIs and targets for the AKC building management team.
• To own the AKC building management risk register ensuring that it is up to date at all times.
• To attend the AKF(UK) Property Committee meetings
• Work flexibly in terms of working hours to support and accommodate events and incidents outside of regular working hours.
• To ensure all tasks from the Security Audit are completed promptly, while maintaining up to date policies including the Critical Incident Plan and Office Security Plan
AKC Events
• To ensure that the building management team support the events management team with all large and complex events, including organising facilities for car parking, traffic control, security, first aid, and hospitality.
• To ensure that the building management team supports the dismantling and removal of the event materials and clearing the venue efficiently.
People Management
• Help the AKF(UK) CEO and Senior Management Team promote an organisational culture of teamwork and service, high-quality, transparency and accountability, innovation, and inclusiveness.
• Supervise, coach and mentor building management staff, building a highly skilled and motivated team demonstrating best practice in the sector and exemplifying AKF (UK) values and behaviours.
• Oversee and set annual performance objectives and evaluate performance in accordance with the AKF (UK)’s staff performance management procedures.
• Identify staff with potential for advancement and, as part of succession planning, contribute to their development.
• Build a culture throughout the building management team of continuous improvement, in which staff are cognizant of and influence the broader learning agenda alongside delivery objectives.
Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Head of Kings Cross Properties.

Role Overview
The Choir Verger supports the daily worship and life of Southwark Cathedral through practical, ceremonial, and hospitality duties. This entry-level verger role focuses on the preparation and smooth running of the Cathedral’s daily liturgy, the welcoming of visitors and worshippers, and the upkeep of spaces to the highest standards.
The postholder will work flexibly within the verger team, supporting colleagues in a wide variety of tasks — from setting up for worship to assisting with public events. The role demands patience, calmness under pressure, adaptability, and a commitment to the Cathedral’s mission.
At the heart of this position is safeguarding: ensuring that every child, young person, and vulnerable adult who engages with the Cathedral does so in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities of all Vergers
Care of the Cathedral Church and Buildings
· Maintain the Cathedral and all associated buildings in good order and cleanliness.
· Work collaboratively to ensure all Cathedral environs are free of litter and well-kept.
· Facilitate maintenance work arranged by the Facilities Manager, granting access as needed for workers.
· Conduct regular checks of liturgical spaces, furnishings, and building fabric to identify damage, wear, or maintenance needs; promptly report findings to the Dean’s Verger and facilities staff.
· Perform additional duties as required under the direction of the Dean’s Verger and/or Precentor.
Worship & Event Preparation
· Set up worship spaces for daily services, feast days, and special events.
· Ensure altar linens are clean and in good repair, notifying the Dean’s Verger when replacements are needed.
· Maintain altar frontals, hangings, and banners in accordance with the current liturgical season.
· Operate the Cathedral sound system and assist with simple audiovisual or lighting equipment (e.g., microphones, livestream controls) when required.
· Maintain a calm, reassuring presence during services and events, remaining attentive to safeguarding and pastoral needs.
· Assist with the setup and removal of displays, exhibitions, and notices within the Cathedral.
· Support the arrangement and restoration of furniture and staging for concerts, plays, and services.
Health & Safety, Safeguarding & Security
· Assist in implementing practical safety measures for services, community gatherings, and events.
· Monitor the Cathedral complex for security, regularly checking the site and providing a visible presence alongside welcomers, day chaplains, and stewards.
· Work with the verging team to uphold Health & Safety, Safeguarding, and Unacceptable Behaviour policies.
· Record and escalate health & safety or safeguarding concerns according to Cathedral policy, as needed to the Dean’s Verger, Safeguarding Officer, or Health & Safety lead.
· Promote safeguarding awareness throughout all Cathedral activities, following Church of England and Cathedral best practices.
Care of Valuables and Monies
· Ensure all collected monies are placed in the safes at regular intervals and kept secure until banked.
· Take responsibility for the care of the Sacristy’s contents.
Hospitality & Welcome
· Foster a climate of welcome that reflects Christian values, collaborating with Visitor Engagement, Events teams, Day Chaplains, and Cathedral Guides.
· Support and inform visitors, offering a listening ear to ensure everyone feels valued, respected, and safe, and directing enquiries to the appropriate colleague as needed.

Liturgical Services
· Serve as Choir Verger on all formal occasions, appropriately attired in cassock and gown.
· Participate in Cathedral services according to established traditions and the guidance of the Dean and Chapter.
Choir & Music Area Care
- Ensure the Song School, Organ Loft, Choir Stalls, and all other choir-related spaces are kept clean, tidy, and well-presented.
- Monitor the condition of choir areas and promptly report any required maintenance to the Facilities Department.
- Support the Music Department in maintaining safe and orderly spaces for choristers, musicians, and staff.

Terms and Conditions
Working Hours
The working hours shall be 35 per hours a week (exclusive of meal breaks), normally consisting of five 8-hour shifts. Shifts operate between 07.00-23.00hrs seven days a week. When the needs of the Cathedral demand, you may be expected to work at such times outside those normal hours as may be necessary for the property completion of your duties.
Annual Leave
25 days paid leave per annum including statutory bank holidays and an extra day at Christmas. After 10 years’ service, an additional 5 days paid leave (pro-rata).
Probation
The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.
Season ticket loan
Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.
Pension
The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund. The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.

About the role
The Facilities Team is responsible for ensuring that our residents have a safe and well maintained living environment and that Your Place meets regulatory compliance standards as a Registered Provider.
The Facilities and Compliance Co-ordinator will be working closely with the Facilities Manager and team, co-ordinating technical support, including day to day repairs, planned and cyclical maintenance, health and safety compliance, facilities management, environmental management, and the administration of business continuity arrangements.
This post will involve working closely with contractors, consultants, and senior colleagues

Other responsibilities include
- Co-ordinating day to day maintenance, planned and cyclical/housekeeping administration, reporting and job allocation via iCompleat finance software, Salesforce & Pyramid maintenance databases.

- Raising of Purchase Orders, tracking through to job completion

- Working with the Facilities Manager and Accounts Team to review Facilities management accounts on a monthly basis to ensure all expenditure is accurately recorded.
- Working closely with Facilities Manager, Impact Specialist and Head of Compliance to co-ordinate day to day management of compliance activities including monitoring of compliance, running reports, identifying non-compliance, proactively manage any potential non-compliance, data entry, maintaining property information, data quality updates, providing supporting documentation for reports, KPIs, etc.
- To ensure Facilities' KPIs are kept up to date and reported to SMT and Premises Sub-Committee in line with internal reporting timetable
About you
Experience
- Facilities / Maintenance and or property management background.
- 1 years experience in compliance administration is a must
- Experience of managing health and safety in the workplace would be an advantage.
- Experience of delivering Facilities related training, including site induction an advantage.
- Experience of working within a soft and hard Maintenance services environment.
- Experience of tendering maintenance and Facilities contracts.

The ideal candidate
We’re looking for an experienced Facilities Manager to be our named competent person for statutory compliance; covering health & safety, fire, water hygiene, electrical safety and environmental standards. You’ll coordinate planned and reactive maintenance - liaising with external contractors, keep accurate compliance records, and produce clear, risk-based reports for senior management. You’ll work with a high degree of autonomy, escalating issues and key strategic budget decisions as required.

In this role, you will:
- Work alongside the Facilities Manager (Hard Services) to ensure that the UK offices are safe, sustainable, inspiring, and provide an efficient and engaging working environment for our staff.

Requirements
To be successful, you will need:
- On the job facilities management experience (minimum 3 years in a facilities manager role).

- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment; with strong multi-tasking, organisational and time management skills.
- Experience of managing the tendering processes, contractor/supplier services and budget management (with a focus on value for money and quality of service).
Although not essential, we’d prefer you to have:
- Experience of working on environmental and wellbeing initiatives.
- Experience of management for front of house services.

Your Day-to-Day

While based in London, this role involves occasional travel to our other offices, giving you the opportunity to build relationships with colleagues and local teams across the Society. You'll work collaboratively with facilities management contractors, landlords, internal teams, and stakeholders at every level to keep our buildings safe, efficient, and welcoming.

The role
You’ll be joining a friendly and collaborative Facilities team, supporting the smooth running of the organisation’s London office and ensuring it remains a safe, efficient, and welcoming space for staff and visitors.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating maintenance and repairs via the in-house helpdesk system
Liaising with key contractors (cleaning, pest control, catering, maintenance, etc.)

The Role
Our Human Resources and Facilities team are responsible for providing a high standard of support to our staff, who are based throughout the UK.
This exciting and high-profile role is responsible for leading on all operational HR & Facilities activity within the charity. This includes ensuring that this activity aligns with Sands’ strategic objectives and meets KPI’s set by the Board. This is a key role which will help us to promote Sands’ vision; a world where fewer babies die and when a baby dies those affected receive the best care and support for as long as they need.
The areas that the team covers include staff learning & development, organisational change management, EEDI, implementation and development of HR policies and procedures, staff wellbeing, recruitment, employee reward and recognition, employment relations, development of HR IT systems and management of our property portfolio.
With significant experience in a Head of HR role, you will have a good understanding of UK employment law and be able to apply this in everyday situations.
You will be confident in advising senior managers in HR best practice, including leading on change management processes.
Experience of developing employee benefit and wellbeing packages, HR policies and information systems is essential. Additionally, you will have demonstrable experience of developing HR strategies including budgets and be able to confidently present to groups of staff and managers.
An excellent influencer and communicator, you will be able to build effective working relationships with staff and managers across the organisation as well as external stakeholders.
With a good knowledge and understanding of employment law and HR best practice, you will be able to manage several work streams simultaneously and meet deadlines under pressure. - CIPD qualification at Level 7 (MCIPD) or equivalent
