As our Facilities Assistant, you will provide day-to-day in person support at our London Office in Stockwell.

You will ensure an efficient, effective and customer-focused facilities management and Health and Safety service. In addition to our London office, you will remotely support other Friends of the Earth offices as required, and act in absence of the Health, Safety & Facilities Manager in times of emergency.

We are tenants in all our offices and use a range of contracted third party suppliers, so a key part of the role is liaison with management companies and good supplier management to ensure we get the right job done and deliver good value for our supporters who fund our work.

This role is very customer-service focused, working on projects of all sizes, as well as being part of our Service Desk team. This is a rewarding and varied role, being flexible will be key, as no two days are the same.

Key Skills and Attributes: 

· Good understanding of facilities management

· Good organisational skills including ability to coordinate and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines

· Knowledge of Health and Safety of workplace and manual handling experience

· Ability to conduct risk assessments and implement risk controls

· Proficient in MS Office applications e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook

· Have a proactive approach to dealing with issues and willing to learn new systems and processes

· Ability to work on your own initiative with limited supervision

Special working conditions

· This role is required to work fixed hours in the London Office, due to the specific job requirements

· Travelling to other offices in the UK region is occasionally required

About the team

Working closely with the Health, Safety and Facilities Manager, you will be part of our vital Infrastructure Services team, sitting within the Finance and Operations Directorate.

The Infrastructure Services team is responsible for the physical and virtual platform we use to do our work, from physical premises to our network, servers and Service Desk for support issues.

The purpose of SCTC Raleigh is to facilitate and support the delivery of cadet training for all organisations of the Royal Navy Cadet Forces. On a day-to-day basis you’ll be leading your team and ensuring the smooth running of the refill and adoption stages of our rehoming services. You’ll work closely with operational colleagues to ensure we have a pipeline of new pets and pool of adopters ready for a pet.

The refill and adoption stages of our rehoming services is critical, so this role will see you working closely with your team and colleagues with a strong focus on finding the right homes for pets as efficiently as possible and refilling to optimise caseloads for our Pet Welfare Assistants.  While delivering robust rehoming services are important to us, so is the client experience and it will be up to you to ensure that we monitor and continually look for ways to uphold and improve our client journey. 

For many, the Centre will be the ‘public face’ of Blue Cross so you will need to ensure that your team put client service is at the heart of every interaction, this includes making sure public areas and facilities are welcoming and engaging and that administration of the admission and adoption process complies with internal processes and compliance legislation such as GDPR.   

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week on a rota which includes weekends and bank holidays.

At Burford rehoming centre, we provide onsite accommodation for pets in our care 24/7.  Overnight shifts are usually undertaken by team members who live on site. Occasionally, you will be expected to carry out night checks or stay in on site accommodation overnight when the resident team members are either not working or away for a period of time. These duties are organised on a local rota and shared between all members of the team. 

 
About you 
You will be an excellent manager of people, having skills which are finely honed by working in a similar, animal related environment with expert knowledge and application of pet welfare and care.

As an accomplished, positive, and innovative manager, you will know how to inspire, motivate, and drive continuous improvement. You will be able to lead a team of Pet Welfare Assistants, developing and empowering them through effective management and coaching. 

With your excellent communication skills, you will have the ability to adapt your approach to suit different audiences. As there are always many ‘plates spinning,’ you will be naturally calm and organised, and be prepared to make decisions in a high-pressure environment. 

You will have strong analytical skills and the ability to rigorously monitor, assess and evaluate in order to deliver improvements. You will have an appetite to continually improve onsite facilities and services, ensuring your team and others involved are engaged. 

You will know what it is like to work in an emotionally charged environment and have excellent ‘bounce back ability’ and resilience. In addition, you will be emotionally intelligent, showing empathy and knowing how to support your team and members of the public.

As the leader of our home-based pet operations, you’ll oversee the smooth running of daily activities, acting as the subject matter expert in practical animal handling and assessment. You’ll work closely with your team to ensure timely pet assessments, behaviour management, and training, while providing full support to foster carers.

Overview
 

The Senior Finance Assistant (12 month FTC) plays a critical role in ensuring financial transactions, records, and reporting processes are accurate, efficient, and compliant. This role focuses on oversight, review, and higher-level accounting support, particularly around reconciliations, payments, balance sheet management, and process integrity.

Key Responisbilities

• Lead weekly payment runs: review approvals, process transactions, and dispatch remittances. 
• Review and approve bank reconciliations prepared by Finance Assistants. 
• Manage and review balance sheet accounts, including aged items and reconciliation of all control accounts. 
• Oversee and maintain fixed asset registers and calculate depreciation. 
• Input and review month-end journals, including prepayments and adjustments. 
• Review and summarise accruals prepared by the Senior-Leaning Finance Assistant.
• Support the month-end close process through variance analysis and management reporting. 
• Assist with preparation of management accounts, overhead reporting, and audit documentation.
• Oversee compliance with VAT and internal control requirements.
• Validate changes to supplier bank details and ensure controls are followed. 
• Mentor Finance Assistants and provide support for complex queries.
• Maintain organised digital and paper filing systems in accordance with audit requirements. 
• Provide absence cover for transaction team members as needed.
• Create and maintain nominal ledger codes and assist in updating budget structures. 
• Provide structured onboarding and training to new finance team members and ongoing support to existing staff.
• Works with the Finance Manager to critically review, document and improve finance processes 
• Support on P11D/PSA identification, liaising with HR or payroll as necessary.
• Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and segregation of duties.

Overview

Social infrastructure refers to the physical spaces, facilities, and services that enable communities to thrive. This includes community centres, youth clubs, religious institutions, housing, parks, sports facilities, and larger institutions such as schools and medical centres.

Over the past few decades, this infrastructure, particularly those led by Black and racially minoritised people, has come under increased strain. This is due to a range of socio-economic developments, including austerity, privatisation of public services, and an increasingly complex grant-making sector.

The Strategic Alliance for Community Wealth Building was originally established in 2021. With a focus on supporting enterprise and asset development, the Alliance was created to bring together policy leaders, community groups, and infrastructure organisations to improve outcomes for Black and minoritised people and their respective communities. However, since 2021, the political landscape has changed significantly, and with it the challenges experienced by Black and racially minoritised organisations. This includes a growing climate crisis, Artificial

Intelligence, and the ongoing housing shortage across the country. Therefore, a new forum is required to ensure Black and racially minoritised communities are not left behind.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilitation of workshops including design and presentation of relevant materials, communicating complex ideas relating to community wealth building and engagement with all participants.

• During SA events the postholder will focus on collaboration with relevant stakeholders across the sector, including community leaders, thinkers, policy professionals, and other stakeholders committed to an equitable future.

• Support with the development of the Strategic Alliance’s strategy, purpose, and long-term framework. Make sure than any ideas are captured and written into the work strands of the alliance, liaising closely with the Research and Policy Lead.

• Producing short briefs to inform discussion and debate within the Strategic Alliance for Community Wealth building meetings

• Delivery of reports informed by the content of the Strategic Alliance meetings.

• Organising meetings, workshops, events, and related research materials. This includes logistics, booking meeting spaces, sending invites and tracking responses, sending materials to participants, catering and refreshments. Some notetaking tasks may also be required.

• Offer support as above with other workstreams within the research and policy arm of community wealth building, including housing, climate, community asset development (Agbero), and the IVAR young researcher programme.

General Responsibilities

• To attend and participate in internal and external meetings including staff meetings and meetings with key stakeholders.

• To attend relevant training to fulfil the requirements of the job. 

• To undertake other duties which may from time to time be required and which are appropriate to the responsibilities of the post.

Person Specification

Essential

• Public speaking, presentations, comfort speaking to individuals of all levels

• Strong passion for working in/or exploring a career in research, policy, community development, or similar.

• Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative data.

• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and succinctly to a variety of stakeholders.

• Demonstrated track record of working within teams to deliver projects or assignments.

• Good organisational skills, with confidence in managing own workloads and ability to prioritise effectively.

Desirable

• Knowledge of the voluntary and community sector, particularly in regards to Black and minoritised led organisations and influencers.

• Experience engaging in politics, particularly relating to community activism, economic development. This could be through your degree, internships, activism, or other forms of consistent engagement.

• Familiarity with working simultaneously on different types of productivity tools. This could include Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Trello, Asana, etc.

About the role:
As a Sports Youth Worker you will deliver and supervise face to face sports and activity sessions for young people, supporting session planning and general programming. You’ll lead a wide mix of activities, run taster sessions, organise competitions and challenges that develop skills, confidence and fitness, and provide coaching and support for young people and volunteer activity coaches.

The centre offers a diverse range of facilities including a Fitness Suite, a multi purpose Sports Hall, a Boxing and MMA room and a MUGA astroturf space for games and outdoor activities. Depending on your skills, you’ll work across these areas to help young people get active, stay motivated and reach their potential.

About you:
We are seeking sports and activity coaches from a range of backgrounds such as PE teachers, football or basketball coaches, personal trainers, multi sports coaches, youth workers with activity experience, or anyone with a strong general sports background who loves working with young people. The skills and experience required include:

• Experience of working with groups of young people aged 8 to 19 or up to 25 with a disability
• A genuine passion for sports, fitness and engaging young people in positive activities

• NGB coaching awards in any sport
