Principle purposes of the job:

To deliver group support services including:

· provision of child focussed play/educational activities to support development

· parental guidance to support child development

· supervision of Play Leader and support for Volunteers

· to work alongside the scheme Manager in the planning and delivery of group support

Main responsibilities:

· To work within Home-Start’s standards and methods of practice including Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding and Promoting the Welfare of Children, Confidentiality and all mandatory policies.

· Work in close co-operation with the Play worker, Volunteers and other scheme staff as directed by the scheme Manager.

· Work in partnership with other family support agencies, as appropriate

· To make initial contact with families to assess their needs

· Review family’s needs on a regular basis and at the end of support.

· To maintain contact with individual referrers during a family’s support

· To welcome all parents/carers to the Family Group, recognising the importance of their role as the prime educators of their children

· To be aware of group dynamics ensuring the groups provide a non-judgemental environment for children and their parent/carer

· To provide a safe, stimulating environment for children and their parents

· To be vigilant about the upkeep of equipment ensuring good standards of safety and hygiene are followed.

· To closely work alongside the Play Worker planning activities for the children

· To make observations, record and report on children’s development

· To encourage the active participation of parents/carers in their child’s play and other activities as appropriate

· To provide opportunities for external agencies to offer advice/information to families

· To promote the use of suitable toys, books and activities and encourage the use of local resources e.g. Toy Library, Library and Children & Family Centres

· To complete a Risk Assessment prior to each session/outing

· To keep a register at each session detailing names of all those attending, including visitors/speakers with an evaluation of each speaker

· To record any accidents/incidents in the Accident or Incident Book and report as appropriate

· To respond, record and report appropriately all Safeguarding Children/Child Protection issues

· To liaise with the Manager regarding budgets

· To promote the work of Home-Start with referrers

· To be willing to undertake training as appropriate, including safeguarding/child protection.

· To attend regular supervision sessions

· To regularly attend staff Meetings

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Support Services Manager to lead BBS UK’s support services for children, adults and families living with Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS). 

BBS UK is a national charity supporting people affected by this rare genetic condition. We work closely with NHS specialist clinics and other services to help individuals and families access the support they need and navigate health, education, social care and welfare systems. 

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a small, dedicated team providing practical support, advocacy and guidance to people living with BBS and their families. 

The role includes team leadership, safeguarding responsibility and service development. You will help ensure people receive safe, responsive and person-centred support while continuing to improve and strengthen our services. 

About the Role 

As Support Services Manager, you will oversee BBS UK’s clinics support and advice services. Working closely with the CEO, NHS clinics and partner organisations, you will: 

• Lead and support a small remote-working team

• Provide supervision and safeguarding leadership to Patient Liaison Officers and Advice Workers

• Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the organisation

• Oversee caseloads, service quality and risk management

• Support staff wellbeing, learning and development

• Build positive relationships with NHS and external partners

• Help develop and improve BBS UK’s support services

This is a home-based role with travel to specialist clinics in London and Birmingham, plus occasional meetings and events. Travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with BBS UK policies.

The role: Family Support Worker (Bereavement)

As a Family Support Worker at Addiction Family Support, you will be responsible for delivering a range of services to provide crucial emotional and practical assistance to individuals bereaved (and affected) by the loss of a loved one due to addiction. Through both individual and group support, you will offer a compassionate and understanding presence, helping people navigate grief and loss in a safe and supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

• Offer empathetic and non-judgmental structured emotional and practical support to those affected by the bereavement of a loved one due to addiction (via a Helpline and 5-Step Method informed one to one and group support).
• Provide or signpost information, literature, and resources to help individuals and groups manage grief and cope with their situations.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate bereavement support group meetings, creating a safe space for participants to share their experiences and provide mutual support.
• Follow guidelines and safeguarding practices - ensuring safeguarding concerns are addressed promptly and signpost individuals to additional services where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and the charity’s policies.

The Role

This service focuses on improving the wellbeing, confidence and engagement of fathers and male caregivers, particularly during pregnancy, early parenthood and times of family stress or transition.

This role will focus on engaging fathers who may be less likely to access traditional services, including through outreach, hospital-based engagement, family hub delivery, one-to-one support and home visiting. You will build and manage a targeted caseload aligned to family hubs and areas of highest need and bring specialist knowledge of father engagement whilst contributing to the ongoing development of programme practice across the organisation.

This role requires flexibility, including regular out-of-hours work, to ensure fathers can access support at times and in places that work for them.

Key accountabilities include:

· Deliver high-quality, targeted support to fathers and male caregivers

· Act as a specialist in father engagement within the wider family support team

· Contribute to the effective delivery and development of Dad Matters across the locality

About You

We are looking for someone who understands the importance of supporting fathers and male caregivers, and who can build trust with people who may be unsure about asking for help. You will be confident working with families, able to manage a caseload, and comfortable delivering support in a range of settings including hospitals, family hubs, homes and community spaces.

You will need to be flexible, relational and practical, with the ability to work some evenings or weekends to reach fathers at the right time.

You will bring:

· Experience of working with families, fathers, parents or caregivers

· Experience of providing outreach support to families or individuals

· An understanding of the challenges families can face during pregnancy, early parenthood and family life

· Strong relationship-building skills

· Confidence in outreach, engagement and partnership working

The role of Families Project Worker involves supporting a caseload of families living in temporary accommodation. The role requires a combination of specialist knowledge and excellent relationship building skills to support residents with varying degrees of mental health, addiction and trauma related issues to engage with appropriate support, improve their experience of temporary accommodation and to access suitable housing solutions.

The role is dependent on excellent communication and joint working with colleagues and a variety of partners and professionals; including the NHS, Probation Service, local council services and other third sector organisations.

The role requires a high degree of motivation to support complex and vulnerable people, often in a lone-working situation. With a passion to work collaboratively with others for the good of our service users, and with some experience of working in a related field in a voluntary or paid capacity.

A high degree of emotional intelligence is required to support service users, many of whom have complex emotional needs, with backgrounds of trauma, neglect, abuse, crime and low self-worth. A role of this nature will experience a range of emotions from joy to grief and as such requires a high degree of resilience to cope with the emotional demands of the role.

Making decisions, “in the moment” to do the right thing to mitigate risk with service users can place high emotional demands on the job holder. The role is highly reactive, unpredictable and at times, chaotic.
