Principle purposes of the job:

To deliver group support services including:

· provision of child focussed play/educational activities to support development

· parental guidance to support child development

· supervision of Play Leader and support for Volunteers

· to work alongside the scheme Manager in the planning and delivery of group support

Main responsibilities:

· To work within Home-Start’s standards and methods of practice including Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding and Promoting the Welfare of Children, Confidentiality and all mandatory policies.

· Work in close co-operation with the Play worker, Volunteers and other scheme staff as directed by the scheme Manager.

· Work in partnership with other family support agencies, as appropriate

· To make initial contact with families to assess their needs

· Review family’s needs on a regular basis and at the end of support.

· To maintain contact with individual referrers during a family’s support

· To welcome all parents/carers to the Family Group, recognising the importance of their role as the prime educators of their children

· To be aware of group dynamics ensuring the groups provide a non-judgemental environment for children and their parent/carer

· To provide a safe, stimulating environment for children and their parents

· To be vigilant about the upkeep of equipment ensuring good standards of safety and hygiene are followed.

· To closely work alongside the Play Worker planning activities for the children

· To make observations, record and report on children’s development

· To encourage the active participation of parents/carers in their child’s play and other activities as appropriate

· To provide opportunities for external agencies to offer advice/information to families

· To promote the use of suitable toys, books and activities and encourage the use of local resources e.g. Toy Library, Library and Children & Family Centres

· To complete a Risk Assessment prior to each session/outing

· To keep a register at each session detailing names of all those attending, including visitors/speakers with an evaluation of each speaker

· To record any accidents/incidents in the Accident or Incident Book and report as appropriate

· To respond, record and report appropriately all Safeguarding Children/Child Protection issues

· To liaise with the Manager regarding budgets

· To promote the work of Home-Start with referrers

· To be willing to undertake training as appropriate, including safeguarding/child protection.

· To attend regular supervision sessions

· To regularly attend staff Meetings

The Peer Support In-Reach Service is a partnership between several local Minds. Senior Peer Support Workers and Peer Support Workers, who have direct lived experience of mental health issues, are working on in-patient wards in Croydon, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Wandsworth to provide recovery-focused peer support to people as they leave hospital and journey towards living independently in the community.

We are seeking a Peer Support Worker who has personal lived experience of mental health challenges. This individual will act as a role model for service users, utilizing their own recovery journey to instil hope and resilience. By sharing their life experiences and the lessons learned throughout their recovery, they will motivate others.

The Peer Support Worker will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team within the Unit, assisting in-patients in developing essential skills and coping mechanisms, while promoting overall wellness through strength based and non-directive conversations. They will provide both practical and emotional support, facilitate access to community resources to help individuals maintain their independence while ensuring their wellbeing.

Additionally, this role includes supporting service users after discharge in the community for up to 12 weeks, aiding them in fostering independence within their local community, connecting with various agencies, enhancing life skills, providing guidance related to employment or educational opportunities and improving their ability to manage challenges effectively to prevent re-admission.

This position requires building connections with service users through shared experiences of mental health challenges, making lived experience a crucial requirement for applicants.

The Peer Support In-Reach Service is a partnership between several local Minds. We are seeking a Senior Peer Support Worker to join the team in Lewisham and line manage the Peer Support Workers.

You will use your lived experience whilst on the ward to help people to build skills to manage their home, finances, connect with family and friends, pursue social or vocational interests, to get more involved in their local community and to stay physically and mentally well. 

Your support will be person-centred and may include mentoring, coaching, emotional support and facilitating access to community activities, practical support, work or study.  The role will be ward-based initially until the patient is ready for discharge; you will then work with them to develop their support plans and goals. You will support them with the transition into the community for up to 12 weeks, helping them to connect with community resources to ensure they are well-supported in the community and working towards their goals.

Addiction Family Support is the leading UK-registered charity supporting adults affected or bereaved by a loved one's harmful use of alcohol, drugs, or gambling.

The role: Family Support Worker (Bereavement)

As a Family Support Worker at Addiction Family Support, you will be responsible for delivering a range of services to provide crucial emotional and practical assistance to individuals bereaved (and affected) by the loss of a loved one due to addiction. Through both individual and group support, you will offer a compassionate and understanding presence, helping people navigate grief and loss in a safe and supportive environment.

You will need to be confident in your ability to provide support via a variety of remote and digital platforms, being able to respond to immediate requests for support. Responsibilities:

• Offer empathetic and non-judgmental structured emotional and practical support to those affected by the bereavement of a loved one due to addiction (via a Helpline and 5-Step Method informed one to one and group support).
• Provide or signpost information, literature, and resources to help individuals and groups manage grief and cope with their situations.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate bereavement support group meetings, creating a safe space for participants to share their experiences and provide mutual support.
• Follow guidelines and safeguarding practices - ensuring safeguarding concerns are addressed promptly and signpost individuals to additional services where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and the charity’s policies.

Family Support Coordinator

Join a local charity supporting families with young children through home visiting, group work, one-to-one support and targeted projects. 

The Role

This service focuses on improving the wellbeing, confidence and engagement of fathers and male caregivers, particularly during pregnancy, early parenthood and times of family stress or transition.

This role will focus on engaging fathers who may be less likely to access traditional services, including through outreach, hospital-based engagement, family hub delivery, one-to-one support and home visiting. You will build and manage a targeted caseload aligned to family hubs and areas of highest need and bring specialist knowledge of father engagement whilst contributing to the ongoing development of programme practice across the organisation.

This role requires flexibility, including regular out-of-hours work, to ensure fathers can access support at times and in places that work for them.

Key accountabilities include:

· Deliver high-quality, targeted support to fathers and male caregivers

· Lead outreach and engagement activity with fathers and underrepresented groups

· Act as a specialist in father engagement within the wider family support team

· Contribute to the effective delivery and development of Dad Matters across the locality

· Work in partnership with local services to strengthen support for fathers and families

About You

We are looking for someone who understands the importance of supporting fathers and male caregivers, and who can build trust with people who may be unsure about asking for help. You will be confident working with families, able to manage a caseload, and comfortable delivering support in a range of settings including hospitals, family hubs, homes and community spaces.

You will need to be flexible, relational and practical, with the ability to work some evenings or weekends to reach fathers at the right time.

You will bring:

· Experience of working with families, fathers, parents or caregivers

· Experience of providing outreach support to families or individuals

· An understanding of the challenges families can face during pregnancy, early parenthood and family life

· Strong relationship-building skills

· Confidence in outreach, engagement and partnership working

· Good safeguarding awareness

· The ability to keep accurate records and manage a caseload

· A commitment to inclusive, non-judgemental and strengths-based support

The post advertised is a temporary Maternity cover position, working part-time (21 hours per week).

We are seeking a Family Support Worker to join the team in providing effective and efficient running of the Visitor Centre, Play Area in the Prison Visits Hall, assisting on Family Days to ensure prisoners and their families have a valuable visiting experience, improving the quality of visits for children, young people and families, and helping to maintain positive, healthy and supportive family relationships.

Ideally, you will have experience of dealing with people in a customer service-based role and be able to demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills, sometimes under challenging circumstances, whilst embracing a non-judgemental and empathetic work ethic. ECHO’s Outreach Coordinator will provide support to families of children and young people aged 0-25 affected by CHD (Congenital Heart Disease) and patients.

This role will have around 20% of time to focus on finding out the needs of 18-25 patients, parents, and siblings, and developing support and information for them.

We are an independent charity who support families treated by the Evelina, London & Royal Brompton, and Harefield hospital networks, and the CHD network of 47 local hospitals, and are based close to the Evelina London Children’s Hosptial.

Can you… work in a hospital environment, on the phone, and online; plan visits or events such as a zoo trip or a party; support children, young people, and families through diagnosis, treatment, care, and, at times, the loss of a child; and provide needs-led emotional, social, and practical support to children with heart conditions, their siblings, parents, and carers?

Can you also research the needs of 18–25-year-olds, develop peer support and programmes for them, and deliver this on a small budget with patient and carer input throughout?

This role provides high-quality emotional, social, and practical support to children with heart conditions, their siblings, parents, and carers, from birth to 25 years. You will deliver 1-to-1 outreach in the hospital and the community, lead play and wellbeing activities, and maintain a visiting programme across children’s departments, including PICU, Cardiac, and NICU. 20% of your focus is supporting young people aged 18–25, identifying their needs, assessing numbers, and developing peer support programmes. The role also involves creating resources and accurate information for families, offering guidance for those facing bereavement or loss, promoting wellbeing across hospitals and networks, planning events, contributing to closed social media groups, maintaining records, and capturing impact through case studies and testimonials.

You will have experience of working in emotionally demanding situations, be dedicated to supporting people, and be able to guide families through the impact of medical diagnosis, treatment, and bereavement with compassion and understanding.

• Provide support to children, young people, and parents/carers affected by CHD from diagnosis to adult
• Research the support needs of younger adults, from 18 – 25 years across the CHD community, including patients, siblings/young carers, and parents/carers.
• Ensure EDI is a primary focus for ECHO – help us ensure everyone can access our services 
• Be there from diagnosis throughout childhood – work with our Youth Worker & Families and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure our families are supported
• Create ways to utilise the ECHO database to understand our own membershipsProvide information and support to families of children with heart conditions and those with additional needs
• Review and upgrade information for families, build strong relationships with referrers by attending meetings, providing talks and outreach across the network hospitals, delivering paediatric Cardiology services via Evelina London and the Royal Brompton

• Represent families throughout the community and consider the varied needs of ECHO members and how they might be included in our service offering
