Job description

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) is seeking an Assistant Content and Engagement Officer who will play an essential role in helping the organisation build our relationship with our members through the creation of content and resources.

Who we are

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) is the professional body for speech and language therapists across the UK. The RCSLT has over 22,000 members and employs around 65 staff predominantly based in the London office. The RCSLT also has offices in Belfast, Edinburgh, and Cardiff.

Our mission is to improve the lives of people with communication and swallowing needs by facilitating and promoting research, producing guidance, holding events, and influencing government. We aim to promote better education and training for speech and language therapists and provide information to our members and the public about speech and language therapy.

The role

The Assistant Content and Engagement Officer plays a vital role in supporting the RCSLT by assisting with the production of top-quality content, tailored resources and information across print and digital channels.

In this role, you’ll use your strong editorial and organisational skills to help produce our award-winning members’ magazine, Bulletin, as well as other member communications, such as our fortnightly e-newsletter and our online blog, SLT Voices. You will manage our magazine peer review group and collaborate with internal experts. You’ll also contribute to supporting the wider content team and colleagues across the RCSLT with your expertise in content, editorial processes and brand guidelines.

You’ll take the lead in coordinating production workflows and providing essential editorial support to a small creative team. Your attention to detail and excellent writing skills will be key when proofreading, editing or creating content, whether for print, social media, our website, or communications campaigns. Above all, you’ll help ensure our content is consistently high quality, engaging and valuable to our members.

Location: Office-based (with hybrid working) or remote.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative communications professional with strong editorial skills and a commitment to high standards and accessibility. The ideal candidate will have experience using editorial style guides and brand guidelines, writing and editing content for diverse audiences, and managing processes to meet deadlines. You will have experience working in member organisations and be comfortable collaborating with people from a range of backgrounds, including service users.

Key skills include editorial precision, the ability to prioritise under pressure and a willingness to learn and use tools like CMS, CRM and task management systems. Understanding the communication needs of a membership organisation and accessibility principles in both print and online formats is desirable. A commitment to equality, diversity and the aims and charitable objectives of the RCSLT is essential.

Feel free to include any examples of online published work; however, please note this is not necessary.

What we can offer you

  • A competitive starting salary
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Excellent staff training and development opportunities
  • Supportive and flexible working environment, including hybrid working arrangements
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Life insurance cover
  • Season ticket loan scheme
  • Eyecare voucher scheme
  • Family-friendly employer, including enhanced maternity and paternity leave
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Access to an employee assistance programme and more!
