About the role:

We are looking to appoint a Family Support Worker on a full-time basis (35 hours, 5 days per week), to deliver a high-quality family support service as part of our Southampton Care Team to families in the local area, at a time where they need it most.

Reporting to the Family Support Manager of the Southampton Care Team and working in partnership with health, education and social care professionals, you will take responsibility for providing needs-led emotional, social and practical support to families where a child or young person has a life threatening or terminal illness. You will enjoy responsibility for managing your own schedule, remaining flexible to the needs of the families on your caseload.

Having worked in a demanding and emotional environment you have a genuine interest in building supportive relationships and helping people; and having provided bereavement support to families, you understand processes of grief, loss and change - and how best to help others deal with its impact.

What we’re looking for:

· An experienced child health, education or social care professional - applications will be particularly welcome from those who have worked in a community environment and those with a recognised qualification in education, health or social care

· A warm, inclusive approach to achieving goals quickly and correctly

· Practiced in child protection, information sharing and the rules around data protection - you lead by example, drawing on your own professional experience and working within established guidelines

· Practical and people-oriented - you will thrive working at a fast pace whilst maintaining accuracy and be a confident user of IT (including MSOffice)

· A persuasive and open communicator - you will work collaboratively with your team and volunteers to ensure delivery of a high-quality service and support fundraising colleagues by writing case studies and family updates

· A practical knowledge of diversity issues affecting children, young people and their families – aware that being responsive to others needs and concerns, is essential.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Family Support Team. This role will suit someone with experience supporting parents and carers of ADHD and autistic children and young people, who is highly organised and shares our passion for making a difference.

About the Role

• Provide specialist advice, information and support to families through one‑to‑one appointments.
• Facilitate groups, courses and workshops which help parents understand ADHD and autism.
• Signpost families to appropriate services and resources across North-West London.
• Work collaboratively with professionals to share best practice, support reasonable adjustments, and contribute to developing autism‑aware communities.

In this role, you will join the CAAS Family Support Team as we work to educate, empower and improve quality of life for neurodivergent individuals, their families, and the communities they live in.

We work in a variety of settings, so a flexible approach is essential.

Some evening or weekend work may be required depending on scheduled sessions

Who We Are Looking For

• Someone with a genuine passion for supporting neurodivergent children and families.
• Strong organisational, IT and communication skills.
• The ability to offer empathetic, strengths‑based support.
• Lived experience as a parent or carer of a neurodivergent child is highly valued at CAAS

The Centre for ADHD and Autism Support (CAAS) is a registered charity (Charity Registration Number: 1193799) and we provide information, training, support groups and practical help to residents of North-West London. Our support services encompass education, benefits, parenting and care advice with signposting to other agencies if appropriate.

Remuneration Package & Contract Details

Annual FTE salary: up to £33,000 (pro-rata for part time), depending on experience

Contract Type: 12 month fixed term contract (potential to extend)

Working Weeks Per Annum: 52 weeks

Working Hours Per Week: 35

Working Days: Mon-Fri, some weekend and evening work will be required.   

Annual Leave Entitlement: 33 days, including UK bank holidays, plus your birthday off each year

The region’s leading charity in tackling violence against women and girls, BSWA offers a helpline, webchat, drop in and and community support as well as emergency accommodation in six refuges across the area.

Projects supports women in the criminal justice system, in healthcare settings, and throughout the community, offering support to women and children experiencing domestic violence. Alongside this, we also have staff offering training and consultancy to businesses and health and social care professionals alike, raising awareness on gender based violence issues.

Key Responsibilities -

To develop and deliver family support and play sessions to children, young people and their mothers in refuge and the community. To lead on domestic violence awareness raising sessions with children/young people and professionals.

Experience Required -

Working within a children and family setting with women and children affected by domestic violence 

Assessing and working to meet children’s needs in a holistic way 

Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with external agencies 

Delivering play activities for children 

Delivering training and awareness sessions

Working within safeguarding guidelines and legislation to protect and promote the well-being of children and vulnerable adults
