To deliver this scale, we work with 73 children and family centres and community organisations, 69 market traders and independent retailers, two fruit and vegetable vans and one fruit and vegetable delivery box scheme. About the role
As we launch our new 5 year strategy we are looking for an experienced Head of Finance & Business Services to help deliver our mission and support the growth and consolidation of the charity. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will play a key role in implementing our new strategy as well as managing risk.
You will take overall responsibility for the organisation’s financial management, working closely with the Chief Executive and the Treasurer.
You will provide effective finance business partner support to other functions within the charity to support its fundraising, operations and development.
You will also be responsible for the line management of the Finance & Business Administrator, working with the Chief Executive to both oversee and support the business services function of the charity.

Job Summary
The Finance Business Partner in Volunteering is responsible for providing the first line of support and assistance with the development of financial plans, analysis of the financial performance and forecasts of the Adult Volunteering area, in order to provide high quality business insight to both support and influence strategic decision making by St John’s management teams. About You

Lead multi-million-pound partnerships for the UK’s largest nature conservation charity and Europe’s biggest nature-focused NGO, helping to build a future where nature and business thrive.
The Business Engagement team leads the RSPB’s work with the private sector and plays a central role in the charity’s strategy, working with businesses as agents of change. With a clear strategy and strong ethical foundations, the team are well positioned to raise £15 million through corporate partnerships by 2030 – and this role is central to making this happen.
Reporting into the Head of Business Engagement, you will oversee and grow a portfolio of multi-million-pound, strategic corporate partnerships, and ones that have the potential for this, ensuring they deliver both significant income and deep impact for nature. Partnerships include Tesco, Co-op, Ella’s Kitchen, Cemex and Barratt.
Working closely with the Head of New Business & Impact and the Head of Business Practice & Advocacy, you will deliver on RSPB’s Business Engagement Strategy, which focuses on:
- Investing in nature at scale
- Driving business practice change
- Influencing policy and systems
- Reaching new audiences through customers, employees and B2B engagement
As Head of Partnership Delivery, you will:
- Lead RSPB’s most strategic corporate partnerships, overseeing a portfolio that includes Tesco, Co-op, Cemex and Ella’s Kitchen. These relationships are already delivering conservation impact and income, but there is more potential to unlock.
- Manage and mentor a skilled team of four, with a collaborative, empowering leadership style and people-first approach
- Drive income growth and unlock new value from existing partners – including funding for restoration, nature projects, biodiversity in supply chains, engaging with business customers and employees’ and behaviour change initiatives
- Work across internal teams – including Global Conservation, Country teams, Fair to Nature, Policy & Advocacy, Finance and Communications – to integrate technical expertise and policy influence into our partnerships
- Play an active leadership role across the Business Engagement team and wider RSPB, helping evolve their approach to corporate engagement and championing the role of business in nature recovery
Ideal skills and experience:
- A track record of leading and growing high-value, strategic partnerships – ideally at a multi-million-pound scale
- Strong strategic and commercial thinking, with the ability to balance income generation and mission-driven impact
- A collaborative, empowering leadership style with a people-first approach (team leadership experience is essential)
- Experience of influencing and engaging senior stakeholders, both internally and externally
- Confident managing sensitive ethical considerations and public scrutiny
- Experience or interest in sustainability, ESG or climate is helpful, but not essential
- Could suit someone stepping up from a senior partnerships role

The role:
This is a key role within the Executive Leadership team, with accountability for Finance, Procurement and IT at the Globe. You will work collaboratively with the CEO and Executive leadership team to drive strong business as usual delivery, and provide provide balanced insight to Executive Leadership Team and the Senior Leadership Group so that they can take responsibility for questioning routines and rituals, and for streamlining processes that improve efficiency.
The Finance Director is the lead on the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) and is a key part of other relevant committees. You will also attend and report at Board meetings, developing strong working relationships with Board members, the Artistic Director, Executive Leadership members, members of the Senior Leadership Group (SLG), the Finance and Procurement team, the Globe’s IT contractor, and colleagues throughout the Globe.
The skills:
· Chartered Accountant.
· Extensive Director level business experience in a complex organisation.
· A strategic thinker with entrepreneurial instincts
· Demonstrable experience in managing contracts.
· Experience within the charities sector including understanding of the relevant accounting, taxation and other regulatory requirements this presents.
· Empathy with the work, aims and mission of the Globe including an appreciation of the balance between the charitable purpose and commercial imperatives.
· An effective and flexible leadership and management style with demonstrable ability to inspire, motivate, coach and develop a team.
· Credibility and authority to work effectively and liaise internally with senior staff and externally with Trustees and other stakeholders.
· An excellent negotiator and influencer with string emotional intelligence and good communication skills.
· Analytical problem-solving ability with the appetite and energy to evaluate, challenge and change the status quo.
· Experience in financial and risk compliance and governance issues.
· Accessible and inclusive report writing and presentation skills demonstrated as a part of Board level reporting.
· Positive, determined, pragmatic, and resilient – able to inspire confidence and respect.
· The ability to work flexibly in a creative, fast-moving environment and understand the importance of artistic risk taking and to respond positively to it.
· Experience in, or a personal interest in the arts, heritage/museum, or creative industries.
· Experience of managing IT contracts or IT staff.
The team:
The Finance Department provides timely and accurate financial information to key stakeholders while protecting Shakespeare’s Globe assets and ensures compliance with laws and regulations in relation to financial and taxation matters. Serving as a key partner on topics requiring economic, financial and value for money inputs and expertise, the Finance Department manages Accounting and Financial Reporting, Tax, Banking Relationships, Procurement, Financial Risk Management, Contracts, Management Reporting, and external audit partners

• Working on remodelling and simplifying existing reporting processes for project cycle and programmes
• Creating efficiencies and controls in reporting structures resulting in robust and relevant reports
• Integrating CRM with accounting packages to improve reporting efficiencies
• Working closely with the Finance Director to produce timely reports for projects and subcontractors
• Providing support to project team to offer financial data in support of any new contracts and bids
• Supporting contract and programme managers with financial data required to produce accurate donor reporting
The skills you will bring to the position of Finance and Project Accounting include;
• Strong analytical skills
• Prior experience of creating efficiencies in financial reporting
• Knowledge of programme reporting on an international scale
• Working knowledge of grant reporting
• Prior strong experience in business partnering and making financial concepts meaningful to non finance professionals
• Competency in Excel: including Pivot Tables, VLook Ups and data manipulation
• Working knowledge of cloud-based accounting software’s
