Job Description

The Head of Finance Business Partnering will:

• Lead financial planning and the production of the Force's Medium-Term Resource Strategy and Capital Programme Plan, ensuring alignment with the Strategic Planning Cycle.
• Work closely with the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Head of Finance, and Head of Management Accounting to ensure departmental strategies align with the Force's financial objectives.

The Successful Applicant

The successful Head of Finance Business Partnering will be/have:

• Qualified Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (C.C.A.B.) or CIMA accountant.
• Recent experience of working within a finance business partnering model or the ability to demonstrate an awareness of what is required to deliver the outcomes of the model.
• Understand personal and professional strengths and development needs and be able to evidence the steps taken to enhance your continuing professional development.
• Ability to interpret complex or detailed legislation, policy or strategy documents to identify financial implications and provide insightful financial advice.
• Strong commercial acumen with the desire to help drive business performance and show the wider business how finance can add value on a day-to-day basis.
• Experience of advising, challenging and negotiating with senior officers, managers and budget holders in a confident manner.
• Ability to use a range of communication and influencing techniques to successfully negotiate, collaborate or effect change in relation to matters of a specialist / technical nature.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of building robust working relationships and establishing personal credibility with senior officers, managers and budget holders.
• Demonstrate IT literacy including advanced Excel, with extensive experience of large, complex ERP systems.

Key Tasks:

• Accurately manage petty cash and balance it to ensure clear record keeping

The Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will lead and manage the Finance and Corporate Services functions, ensuring strong financial governance, compliance, and strategic planning. • As a business partner, ensure that there is a sound understanding of business areas in terms of both present as well as forecasted performance.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and strategic planner to join RABI as our new Head of Finance & Operations. This is a critical role at the heart of our organisation, ensuring that our financial management, operational governance, HR practices and estates oversight are robust and future-focused. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will play a central role in planning and delivering the strategic priorities of the charity.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, you will lead and develop high-performing teams across Finance, HR, and Estates & Operations. You will bring strong strategic planning insight, ensuring sound financial planning and performance, operational excellence, and compliance with governance frameworks and regulations. You’ll also manage relationships with investment and estate advisors to ensure we are making the best use of our resources in line with our strategic goals.

What we are looking for

You will be a CCAB-qualified finance professional with substantial experience of working at a senior level, ideally within the charity or non-profit sector. Your background will include leading finance, HR and operations functions, and developing and implementing strategic financial and operational plans. We’re looking for someone with excellent leadership skills, who brings a collaborative and open approach to building strong relationships across teams and with external partners. Experience of investment portfolio oversight, estate management, and working through organisational change will be key to your success in this role.

You will also bring strong planning and analytical skills, an eye for risk and performance indicators, and the ability to present strategic planning insight clearly to executive colleagues and Trustees. Above all, you’ll share our commitment to supporting farming communities and have a strong affinity with RABI’s values and mission.

The role is a hybrid position that will require travel in the UK including to the UKHQ Finance Department in Sandy Bedfordshire, and to attend meetings in the support of your directorate.

We are looking for two qualified accountants to join our Financial Planning and Reporting team. Both positions are as Finance Business Partners, supporting two key areas of the organisation: one will be supporting our Income and Conservation Investment Directorate; and the other supporting colleagues in the UK Countries Directorate more specifically for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Both are key roles within the team working in income generation, and direct conservation areas.

What's the role about: 

As a Finance Business Partner you will work proactively with senior colleagues to provide an added-value service of financial support to our Directorates. In addition to a strong management accounting background, you will understand the difference that can be made through strong business partnering relationships and be confident in building those relationships. You will gain the respect and confidence of the colleagues you support through strong communication skills (written and oral) and your ability to constructively challenge ideas and plans. You will add value through gaining an intimate understanding of the Directorate that you partner, together with contributing to business performance and the requirements of the finance function with the charity's need.

You will be a fully qualified accountant with up-to-date technical knowledge and a desire to progress in your profession. We will want the successful candidate to influence change and use their skill set to further drive the organisation's objectives forward. You will also be comfortable working under pressure, to tight deadlines, and interacting with people at all levels inside the RSPB. 

Essential skills, knowledge and experience: 

• CIMA or equivalent qualification.

• Sound knowledge of technical accounting legislation

• Ability to act as a critical-friend to senior management balancing challenge and support. Develop effective working relationships that influence and challenge senior management teams, so that the role of the Finance Business Partner is an integral and valued part of the organisation.

• Ability to influence decision makers through sound logic, diplomacy and assertiveness.

• Ability to evaluate incomplete and complex financial information, to develop and consider a range of possible options and make a judgement as to the recommended course of action.

• Ability to convey appropriate financial messages to various audiences.

• Sound coaching, mentoring, presentation and training skills.

• Ability to ascertain financial trends and calculate the impact of them on the organisation under various scenarios.

• Working in cross-functional teams to provide transformational advice on new initiatives, investment appraisals/organisational restructures/matters of risk and control in order to support effective decision making.

• Support senior managers to develop their financial plans so that the corporate strategy is realised.

• Build capability and knowledge in managers so that they can effectively manage their budgets through effective financial information, support and advice.

• Identify financial risks and work in collaboration with managers to design effective mitigation strategies.

• Identify, research, design, gain approval and successfully implement new Finance initiatives and ideas for change based on business analytics and expert knowledge of client areas.

• In conjunction with the Finance Management Team contribute to the development of the wider Finance Department Strategy to make the service best in class.

• Working with the Finance Operations team, ensure the highest level of customer service and support is delivered and operating styles and procedures are continuously reviewed so that the service is business focused in the delivery of objectives
