If so, New Economics Foundation (NEF) invites you to become our Treasurer and trustee, playing a vital role in guiding our strategic direction and financial stewardship.

While long established, we are not a typical think tank. Since 1986, we have been leading progressive thought and action, bringing together economic, social and environmental policy. We research, develop and campaign for radical policy solutions that will transform the economy so it works for people and planet.

We will soon announce the appointment of a new Chair, and have a vibrant, committed Board. With a general election approaching it’s an exciting time to join us.

As Treasurer, you will work alongside fellow trustees to ensure NEF achieves its mission and remains accountable to stakeholders. Your specific responsibilities will include:

· Maintaining oversight of NEF’s financial affairs on behalf of the Board of Trustees.

· Providing guidance on financial stewardship in alignment with our strategic aims.

· Chairing the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee and contributing to the Board & Officers’ Committee.

· Overseeing compliance with statutory requirements and the presentation of organisational budgets and accounts.

· Acting as a sounding board for the Director of Finance & Operations and addressing any major financial concerns.

· Supporting the review of financial controls, reserves, and risk management policies.

· Meeting with external auditors as necessary and presenting accounts to trustees.

Commitment:

· An average of 2 days per month, including preparing for and attending hybrid Board and sub-committee meetings.

· The Treasurer will typically serve a three-year term, with a maximum of two terms allowed.

Our partner is a women’s organisation, delivering systems change and trauma and gender-informed community-based support for women and girls affected by domestic abuse, including those in contact with the criminal justice system.

The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice and legal requirements, and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. They will ensure that effective financial management systems, controls and procedures are in place, and are appropriate for the charity’s needs.

The successful candidate will have experience of operating within a board in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation, as well as a commitment to feminist principles and a passion for ending violence against women.

The board meets 5 times per year, and the finance sub-committee has an additional 4 meetings annually.

At Teenage Helpline, we are a tight-knit community of people who are passionate about make a difference in the lives of young people across the UK �� 

Teenage Helpline is an online peer-to-peer mentoring service for young people. We can act as the first stepping-stone for young people who do not feel comfortable seeking support for themselves, or who need a listening ear to help them cope with personal issues.

About the role

The CFO holds the overall responsibility of the financial health of Teenage Helpline. Their role is to drive growth in income and manage expenditure to a high level, whilst holding the team to account for their actions. Your role is to maintain professional customs, enforce ethical practices, meet targets, and manage organisation budgets.

Responsibilities 

• Act as a Director of Teenage Helpline with direct oversight of the Board of Directors. Your key responsibility is always to protect and uphold the reputation and principles of the organisation. 

• Delegate job activities effectively to ensure optimal performance of all operations departments.
• Design roles as needed and ensure the effective recruitment of individuals to fill those roles successfully.
• Analyse, review, and develop organisation strategies to ensure their ongoing effectiveness and improvement.

• Hold all departments responsible for the financial health of Teenage Helpline accountable for their results.

Who are Blood Pressure UK?

Blood Pressure UK is a national charity which was established in 1996. In the UK, 16 million people are estimated to have high blood pressure with one in three (5 million+ people) unaware their blood pressure is raised. Known as the Silent Killer as you can be unaware your blood pressure is raised until you experience heart attack or stroke, or it’s picked up in a random check.

For over 20 years we have been leading the light on people understanding their blood pressure numbers so if needed they can take the steps needed to reduce it. This culminates each year with Know Your Numbers Week! in September, a week-long campaign with a range of partners for people to understand their blood pressure numbers with advice and guidance of how to make vital changes to their lifestyles to change it.

Our Team

Blood Pressure UK currently have a staff team of three (two who are part-time). We contract an external accounting company to provide financial services to the charity including annual accounts, monthly management accounts, payroll, invoice creation and book keeping, making sure the charity complies with relevant governance for the charity commission and companies house.

What we are looking for…

We are looking for a qualified accountant, either working or recently retired with ideally experience of charity financial processes but not essential.

You may have a connection either personally or through family and friends with high blood pressure but it’s not a prerequisite for the role. Your experience and enthusiasm are the key factors we are looking for.

St Luke's Hospice have an opportunity for an experienced Trustee with an income generation/finance/business management background to help make a positive contribution to the work we do for patients and families within our local communities. 

What will you be doing?

If you have experience in the private, public or voluntary sectors and the drive to make a difference, we have an opportunity for you to join our Trustee Board to make a positive contribution to the work we do. St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice cares for people in mid & south Cheshire who are suffering from life limiting illnesses. We offer specialist treatment, care, advice and support to patients and their families.

We undertake an annual audit of the skill mix of our Trustees to find the right blend of experience and expertise to support the work of the Hospice through their support for the Senior Management Team. We look for Trustees who have the dedication, commitment and desire to improve our services and help us to achieve our strategic goals in line with our ethos and values.

We would be happy to receive applications from someone, whose responsibility as a Trustee will be to overview all Income Generation at St Luke’s.  This role will include being a Director of the Promotion and Trading companies which look after the hospice lottery and our retail shops. Someone with experience of managing income generation, working collaboratively and with business management and finance (including P&L) knowledge would be desirable for this position.

Each year the Hospice undertakes a skills mix audit to identify the key skills required to support the SMT in the day to day running of the Hospice.

The most recent audit has identified the following skills as essential to support the SMT and create a balanced trustee board able to make knowledgeable and effective decisions:

• Experience in managing income generation.

• Experience in working collaboratively.

• Experience of Business Management.

• Experience of Finance including P&L.

This is a vital role within the Hospice and will contribute to ensuring patients and families within the community receive safe, well-led compassionate care. We are Knottingley Foodbank, providing emergency food and compassionate, practical support to people in crisis. Since 2013 we have operated in the Knottingley area and are currently based at Ropewalk Methodist Church, providing 1,714 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis last year. Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.

The charity

Founded in 2005, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust (RAFCT) is the parent charity of the world- renowned Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), the biggest military airshow in the world. Role Description

We are looking to appoint an Honorary Treasurer who will bring new energy, new ideas, new perspectives, and challenge to enhance our financial management and development as a charity.

Role Overview

We are a small charity and handle a moderate number of transactions each month using an online accounts package (Xero). We have an online bookings system handled through our website and online payments system (STRIPE). Book-keeping is managed in house by the Business Manager. Monthly payments approval would be required, supporting the preparation of quarterly management accounts. More input in March and April for preparation of the year end accounts and additional support in January - February would be welcomed to develop budgets, templates and invoice codes for the coming year.

Routinely, we look to our Treasurer for:

Monthly - Approval of online payments, review of management accounts and reserves, monitoring cash flow

Quarterly - Preparation of board reports (quarterly management accounts), review of reserves, preparation of latest estimate

Annually - Preparation of annual budget and draft accounts for independent review

On a Project Basis - Supporting our Director and Business Manager with financial aspects of bids and applications – project budgets, customised spreadsheets and assisting with reporting templates and coding of invoices (as new projects start)

Our financial year runs from 1st April – 31st March with the reporting deadline of 31st December.

Onja is a social enterprise training underprivileged youth into world-class software developers.

We find the brightest students in Madagascar who can’t afford to continue their education, and train them in English language and software development. After just two-and-a-half years they are ready to work as remote front-end software developers in international tech teams.

Once in a job, our developers earn a good salary that helps them support their families and pay forward the opportunity to a new wave of students. They unlock exciting careers that fulfil their potential, and accelerate the development of their nation (see ‘How Onja Works’ below).

Our first cohort, ‘Wave 1’, consists of nineteen talented and committed graduates who are now working remotely for our partner companies in Europe and the US. About the Role

Your mission as our Financial Controller is to lead and be in charge of Onja’s finances. You will manage our Finance Team and together you will be in charge of everything finance related. This will include: 

• Improving our accounting systems & processes
• Financial planning and analysis, including budgeting and forecasting
• Monthly management reporting and quarterly financial reporting
• Annual reporting (New Zealand and Madagascar)
• Tax compliance (New Zealand and Madagascar)
• Responsible for and coordinating activities of external auditors, responsible for preparation of financial statements to be audited.
• Managing cash flows between global accounts
• Managing direct reports 
• Report directly to Onja’s CEO
• Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
• Reviewing work from direct reports as required, which would likely include the following tasks:
  • Payroll
  • Client invoicing
  • Supplier payments / employee reimbursements
  • Cash expenses
  • Review of information within accounting software (Xero)

Requirements

• Twelve month commitment (this ensures sufficient time to make a truly meaningful impact) with potential to renew/extend.

Right now, less than 3% of charity Trustees are under 30, 8% are people of colour and 36% are women. We are looking for people from across the UK and are keen to recruit trustees from all nations in the UK.

It’s a critical time for our ocean. There is not a moment to waste. Our goal is to recover the health of our ocean so it can help with healing our climate; to make seas protected in law to be protected in practice; and to stop the tide of plastic that’s getting into our waters.

Our Board needs people with a range of backgrounds, life stages, experiences, and skills who come together as a team to offer challenge and energy to one another, and to boost our ability to deliver for our ocean.

By joining as a Trustee, you will help navigate us through the risks and opportunities that we meet.

We want our organisation and Board to be reflective of our society. We recognise that we should all have the opportunity to take responsibility to protect our ocean for the future, so we are particularly interested in applications from groups which are typically under-represented on Boards. What we’re looking for 

We’re looking for people to join our Board with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Finance – you might be a qualified accountant and have a background in finance and audit so that you can provide vital skills to help the Board oversee our financial management. An understanding of charity accounts and regulations would absolutely be an advantage. 

• Marketing & Communications – we want to reach new audiences to ensure a diverse and inclusive approach, and we are aiming to do that at scale. You may have experience of providing strategic support for increasing our reach and visibility. 

• Marine Conservation - you might have environmental knowledge, ideally on the marine environment, with policy and/or practical experience of conservation. A network of contacts across the marine sector, particularly with business or government, would be an advantage.

What you can bring to our Board can be just as interesting as where you’ve been working. You do not need to have previous charity trustee experience, but you will need to be comfortable participating at a senior level with complex discussions and the need to be comfortable making pragmatic but key decisions.

Being a Trustee can be a challenge, but it’s also a brilliant opportunity for you to develop your skills, work as part of a team that shapes the direction of our charity in making tangible changes for the future of our ocean and planet. If you’re passionate about what we do, then you’ll feel the same excitement we have in making those changes happen. 

You don’t need to understand everything that we do or know the Latin names of fish, or in most cases, even to have experience of the charity sector. As a Trustee, you’ll develop your personal and professional knowledge, work on strategy and develop an approach to managing risk and broaden your influencing and negotiation skills in a new context. 

You’ll also gain insight and knowledge from your fellow Trustees, with everyone’s skills being recognised and valued. 

Trustees are volunteers, so the role is not paid but we will cover your costs for travelling and any overnight stays to attend meetings or events.

Would you consider bringing your skills to be a trustee of a charity that is passionate about supporting women and their children to make positive changes in their lives? The opportunity to be a Trustee is open to both those who wish to take their first step into a non-operational strategic management and those with experience of governance.  As well as developing the Charity it will provide personal development opportunities and enhance any CV.

Stepping Stones (Luton) is a charity based in Luton which meet the needs of vulnerable women and their children. Our practitioners  deliver community-based, frontline support to women suffering from drug addiction and substance abuse,  who may have offended or re-offended or be victims of domestic abuse including those in contact with the criminal justice system. Services include women’s group programmes, 1:1 support and counselling and the provision of an Ofsted approved childcare facility.

Our current trustees bring a range of skills and experience to the Board and share their expertise to oversee the development and implementation of our strategic and business plans and the charity’s finances.  We are looking for trustees for the board of Stepping Stones (Luton) board and would welcome either someone who has experience of being a trustee or someone who wants to take their first Trustee role.   We are particularly interested in people with a background in finance, fundraising or social media.  We are keen to improve the balance of diversity and perspective on our board which would reflect both our diverse work force and service users.   Stepping Stones values diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds in the skill areas/knowledge highlighted

The board meets 6 times per year with meetings in hybrid form – online and in person from our Luton office. Any ad hoc issues which may arise are dealt with by email correspondence or online meetings
