We are looking for an experienced Finance Partner to provide family leave cover until September 2026.  This is an exciting opportunity to work within a well established team, providing finance and business support to Heads of Department within our Communities and System Partnerships division, and their teams.

You will be monitoring the budget that the teams invest in grants that are awarded to the external partners with whom Macmillan works to support people living with cancer. This investment funds established roles such as Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialists and Macmillan Support Workers, as well as new, innovative ways to reach minority groups in the community or to lead whole system change for cancer care. 

You will be working with the teams to accurately forecast their full year expenditure, maintain the latest view of their spend for the year and review the monthly management accounts to highlight and investigate variances.

You will work closely with a Senior Finance Business Partner and other Finance Partners mainly online and through occasional in person get-togethers. Wider Finance team meetings are held face to face quarterly in London.

Role context:

Cord’s turnover is about £2m a year. About 85% of Cord’s funding is restricted, coming from institutional donors like the EU and the US government, and 15% (about £300K) is unrestricted coming from a committed UK supporter base and other private fundraising streams. 

In 2025, Cord operates in eight countries and has offices in Burundi, Myanmar, Laos, & Cambodia. Cord has a global team of thirty people with finance staff across five country teams. 

The Finance Manager role is a newly created role which is being introduced to strengthen the organisation’s financial management and control systems. The postholder will work across the breadth of the finance function preparing internal management accounts and external annual accounts.

In 2024, Cord changed its finance system to use Business Central. The Finance Manager will become the organisation’s main ‘admin’ user of the finance system. In the near-term, there will be a particular focus on rolling out further functionality of the system and developing financial policies and procedures. 

The Finance Manager will have oversight of the UK finance function through the line management of the UK Finance Officer and will directly deliver on the international side of operations in the areas of donor compliance, programme financial management, partner financial monitoring, and reporting. The role will involve travel to international programme locations.

Key Responsibilities:

• To support the Head of Operations to provide finance team leadership, develop and deliver an annual finance workplan to ensure continual improvement, and to drive finance capacity across the organisation
• To ensure the effective financial management of the organisation create and maintain effective financial control
• To be the Business Central Finance System Lead, developing functionality, troubleshooting and capacitating system users
• To ensure financial compliance: prepare statutory accounts, partner compliance, donor compliance and financial reporting

Job Purpose

This role is responsible for managing BSR’s day-to-day financial activities, leading on financial planning and reporting, and supporting financial governance. Main responsibilities

Day-to-day financial operations

• Manage the financial activities of the charity and trading subsidiary (BSR Enterprises)
• Ensure accuracy and efficiency in the accounts
• Process payroll and administer the pension scheme
• Ensure compliance with HMRC, including monitoring VAT threshold, tax and gift aid, and undertake necessary returns where necessary
• Be the main contact with and management of, the day-to-day operations of the Charity’s banking arrangements, in line with authorisation requirements

Financial planning

• Lead the preparation of the annual budget

 Financial reporting

• Provide financial reports and analysis to the senior management team and Trustees
• Attend quarterly Finance and Risk Committee meetings

As our Temporary Finance Manager, you will be managing a finance assistant and will be part of our organisation’s Senior Leadership Team, helping to collaboratively shape and steer the charity as we work towards our 2022-2027 strategy. Roles and Responsibilities

Accounting (40%)

• Oversee day-to-day transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, for both the UK charity and the newly created US charity

Meet your Manager

In this role, you will be managed by Greg Pickford. Greg joined ClientEarth in 2018 and is based in our London office.

Main Duties

• Manage a team of 2-3 Finance Business Partners (FBP) supporting Programme teams with the grant portfolio, keeping budgets under continuous review, and providing regular financial information and analysis.
• Contribute proactively with the Programme Finance Lead and the core Finance team in improving programme finance systems and procedures.
• Working with Programme Heads and the FBPs, provide commentary and insight into the Programmes financial position on a monthly basis, flagging material risks and identifying mitigating actions.
• Review the financial assessment of new grant proposals and grant agreements. Ensure that they are in line with ClientEarth strategy and financial guidelines for cost recovery and overheads. Escalate grants or contracts that do not comply to the Head of Finance, Planning and Analysis for sign off.
• Review monthly salary allocation and cost recovery journals prepared by FBPs and ensure that data checks are in place including accuracy of fund balances
• Ensure that the financial aspects, reporting and audit requirements of grant/donor funded projects are aligned with donors’ contractual requirements.

We are looking for a new Finance Manager to join a small, friendly, and ambitious team, to review the day-to-day processes and policies and identify opportunities to improve reporting  and make operational efficiencies. Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to provide sound financial management for the Association and CET through:

• Statutory financial reporting in line with Charity SORP/UK GAAP, including annual returns to Companies House and the Charity Commission

• Management accounting, reporting and analysis to funders, management, staff, and Trustees/Directors

• Preparation and maintenance of budgets, forecasts and plans, including cashflows and project budgets

• Supervision and control of day-to-day accounting transactions, including oversight of the finance aspects of the Apprentice role

• Oversight and implementation of robust financial systems, policies, and procedures

• Responsible for financial queries, working with the Apprentice as first point of contact for external contacts
   

Main Duties

• Supervise day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial record keeping, including coding, allocations, reconciliations, and tax accounting

• Oversee invoice generation and debt recovery processes

• Process payments and staff expenses for authorisation

• Produce regular management accounts on an accruals basis, providing interpretation and advice to the Executive Team, Finance & Risk Committee, Trustees/Directors, and funders

• Lead on budget preparation and forecasting, including project-specific budgets; monitor and reforecast as needed

• Prepare statutory accounts in compliance with charity SORP and liaise with external auditors and the Treasurer

• Manage contracts with financial services providers, including bookkeepers, auditors, banks, and investment managers

• Attend AfCE and CET Board meetings

• Fulfil company secretarial duties, including:

  • Filing confirmation statements and annual accounts for ACE and CET with Companies House and Charity Commission

  • Filing changes in Trustees/Directors

• Complete Arts Council England (ACE) returns, including provision of financial information for quarterly payment processes when required

• Negotiate and implement insurance policies including:

  • General insurance

  • Cyber security

  • Life assurance

  • Staff sickness policy

  • Trustees’ liability

  • Conference insurance

• Oversee monthly payroll, including statutory payments to HMRC and pension providers, and liaise with bookkeepers for payroll updates or changes

• Review VAT returns for accuracy before submission to HMRC

• Job Title: Finance Manager
• Responsible to: Director of Finance
• Hybrid Working: Most days are based at their offices in Central London
• Working Hours: 3 days weekly (22.5 hrs/0.60 FTE Completely Flexible) with occasional additional paid days to meet workload reporting peaks

Overall Responsibility

With the assistance of a small Finance Team and applying high standards, to support the Director of Finance by managing the day-to-day accounting and transaction processing activity for the and it’s trading subsidiary. To take direct and specific responsibility for Payroll and VAT.

Detailed Responsibilities:

i. Integrity of Prime Transactions: To ensure the high-quality routines and procedures are in place and applied by the Finance Team to maintain accurate accounting records of all transactions using Quick Books Online (or any replacement financial system) and delivered to meet the Reporting & Meeting timetable.

ii. Monthly Payroll: With payroll data provided by the SMT and other managers, the Payroll Bureau (Access) and other stakeholders, to carry out all routines and procedures to maintain accurate and payroll processing in accordance with a rigid delivery timetable i.e.

• Payroll Processing for both fixed Salaries and variable Casual Wages (timesheets)

• Payroll Payments and Payslip Delivery to all employees

• Reporting and payments to HMRC: monthly and annually in accordance with published statutory timetable.

• To manage the payment of pension contributions and other employee deductions & benefits.

• Other Payroll administration and compliance e.g. for Joiners and Leavers

iii. VAT: To accurately reconcile, complete and submit quarterly/annual returns and associated payments in accordance with established timetables and reflecting partial exemption as appropriate. To liaise with the HMRC as and when required. To advise internally on technical VAT issues.

iv. Fixed Assets: To ensure the Fixed Asset schedules are maintained and reconciled on a quarterly basis with the General Ledger.

v. Control Accounts: To reconcile all control accounts on a rolling monthly basis and at least once a quarter, in accordance with the Accounting Check-list, and to resolve any differences.

vi. Internal Control: To ensure, as far as practical, that a diversification of duties exists within the finance team to afford adequate protection of the company’s assets and that all approvals and payments are made in accordance with the approved Authorisation Structure.
