Job description

About the Organisation

A well-established and purpose-driven organisation is undergoing a significant period of finance transformation, supported by a new senior finance leadership team. The organisation is strengthening its finance function and is looking for an experienced Finance Manager to help build a strong operational finance foundation while contributing to wider transformation and process improvement.

The Finance team is approximately 16 people, with dedicated Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions alongside Finance Business Partnering.

The Role

Reporting to the senior finance leadership team, the Finance Manager will lead the operational finance function, with responsibility for the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams.

This is a hands-on role combining strong financial accounting, people management and finance transformation. The successful candidate will be expected to provide stability and leadership across the operational finance function while identifying opportunities to improve systems, automate processes and strengthen financial controls.

A key priority will be developing and supporting the operational finance team, establishing clear standards and creating a strong platform for the wider finance transformation programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and develop the operational finance teams across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.

  • Provide strong, calm and assertive line management, creating a high-performing and accountable team culture.

  • Oversee day-to-day financial accounting processes and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.

  • Lead month-end activities, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting.

  • Review and strengthen financial controls and operational finance processes.

  • Oversee debtors, creditors and cash-flow management.

  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end audit requirements.

  • Ensure appropriate compliance with charity accounting requirements, including Charity SORP.

  • Work closely with Finance Business Partners and operational stakeholders, providing financial guidance and support where required.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation and greater use of technology across the finance function.

  • Support the implementation and development of new finance systems as the organisation progresses its transformation programme.

  • Contribute to ad-hoc finance projects and wider transformation initiatives.

About You

The organisation is looking for a qualified or part-qualified accountant, or an experienced QBE candidate, with a strong grounding in financial accounting and operational finance.

You will ideally bring:

  • Strong experience managing and developing finance teams, particularly AP and AR functions.

  • Excellent technical accounting and month-end experience, including balance sheet reconciliations.

  • A track record of improving finance processes, systems and controls.

  • Experience of finance transformation, automation or systems implementation.

  • The confidence and resilience to manage established teams and challenging stakeholders.

  • A calm, measured and assertive management style.

  • The ability to work effectively in a changing and developing finance environment.

  • Experience within the charity sector and knowledge of Charity SORP would be advantageous, but candidates from a broad range of sectors will be considered.

What’s on Offer

  • Salary: £45,000–£50,000

  • Working arrangement: Fully remote

  • Opportunity to play a key role in a significant finance transformation programme.

  • The chance to shape and strengthen an established operational finance function.

  • Broad exposure across financial accounting, people leadership, systems and process improvement.

  • Occasional in-person team meetings approximately every two months.
