As a member of our Executive Team, you will be responsible for leading our finance, investment, and governance portfolios. The Role

Our goal is to recruit an experienced Director of Finance and Investment who will lead the finance and investment functions for the organisation. This will involve supervising strategic financial planning, including yearly and long-term budgeting and tracking, as well as delivering precise and timely financial projections. You will ensure the external audit and production of statutory accounts are delivered, keeping tight cashflow management, and ensuring compliance with UK GAAP, FRS 102, Charity SORP, and other applicable standards and regulations.

Besides your financial duties, you will also oversee the investment portfolio of the organisation and its subsidiaries, run the treasury and investment system operations of Reall, deal with possible problems affecting debtors' repayment capacity, and comply with rules and regulations.

As a leader in this role, you will also be responsible for developing and implementing robust governance frameworks, policies, and procedures for the organisation and its subsidiaries, providing advice and guidance to the Board of Trustees, senior management, and other stakeholders on governance matters, and representing the organisation in external forums and networks related to governance, finance, and social impact.

You will also be responsible for supervising, coaching, and mentoring a team of finance professionals, promoting a culture of financial awareness and accountability across the organisation, representing the finance function in the senior leadership team and Trustees, and providing strategic advice and input on financial issues and decisions.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Accountant qualification (ACCA, CFA, CCAB or equivalent) with at least 10 years of experience at a senior level
• Strong technical accounting skills, including experience of pulling together Group accounts & Consolidation
• Strong analytical and financial modelling skills
• Experience of managing a loan book or working in a charity or regulated for-purpose business
• Business partnering skills with the ability to raise the financial capacity of an SME
• A resilient, tenacious, flexible, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to motivate a team

Salary – £90,000 - £105,000 per annum dependent on experience

About the role

The Director of Finance and Corporate Resources holds a key role in our organisation and is core to the senior management team. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance and Corporate Resources is responsible for finance, HR, facilities, and governance.

Managing a team of four (comprising a Financial Controller, Finance Services and Business Support Manager, HR Manager, and an Administrator) they are responsible for all ‘back office’ operations, providing the supporting infrastructure to ensure quality delivery of our work and mission.

You will work closely with the Chief Executive to lead the organisation through operational change. As a member of the wider leadership team, the Director of People & Culture will be responsible for developing a strategy that that delivers on our aspirations for our staff and volunteers, attracting and retaining a diverse and talented workforce and creating an environment that allows everyone who works with us to feel safe and be the best that they can be.  As our most senior People leader in the charity, this is a role that is highly visible at all levels and you will be required to build strong, trusted relationships across the leadership team, our Board and with our staff and volunteers.

We are looking for an authentic and inspiring leader who brings significant experience of developing and implementing people strategies, with strong knowledge of culture and organisational development.  A changemaker who encourages those around them to step outside their comfort zone, you will have a confident and informed approach to all things relating to people and culture and a proven commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in the workplace, so that everyone feels able to be their authentic and best selves. 

While experience of working within a charity would be beneficial, we are also keen to hear from candidates who bring transferable experience from other sectors. In addition to wanting to hear from experienced people leaders who share our vision and values, we also welcome applications from emerging leaders for whom this will be their first director role but who bring the enthusiasm and drive to succeed in it.

MMHS has for many years played a crucial role in meeting the housing and housing-related needs of ministers who have worked in the Methodist Church and continues to support this community through the provision of housing across the UK. At the same time, we are considering ways of using our resources for new mission, while remaining fully committed to our existing mission.

This is a crucial moment for us as a charity. We are in search of a highly strategic CFO with a broad skillset which stretches beyond the remit of many financial leadership roles within the charity sector. The JABBS Foundation (JABBS) is a charitable organisation established in 2009 to channel a Birmingham family's philanthropic giving. With over £30 million in grants awarded to date, JABBS is well-funded and supported by a dedicated administration team. Their key focus is on supporting women involved with or at risk of contact with the criminal justice system, addressing their multiple and complex unmet needs. They passionately believe in evidence-based grant-making and are committed to driving positive change.

Salary: £90,000 per annum
Location: Hybrid, ideally 3 days per week at JABBS HQ in Birmingham
Contract: Permanent, full time or reduced hours contract considered
Benefits: 25 days annual leave, statutory pension scheme, flexible working

You will be at the forefront of championing women's justice, rights, and gender equity, driven by a strong commitment to anti-oppression and anti-racist principles. Your passion will fuel your leadership as you expand the Foundation's grant-making programmes, explore evidence to shape their philanthropy and oversee all aspects of the charity's operations.

Role Highlights:

• Strategic leadership: Develop and implement a visionary strategy to expand and enhance the Foundation's impact.
• Grant making: Oversee evidence-based grant-making programmes, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
• Governance and relationships with trustees and patrons: Work closely with the board and patrons to maintain strong governance and strategic direction.
• Operational framework: Establish and refine operational processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
• Finance management: Ensure robust financial planning, monitoring, and reporting.
• Strategic relationships: Build and nurture partnerships with stakeholders, donors, and community organisations to advance the Foundation's mission.

About You:

You're a vibrant, motivating leader with board-level experience in the charity or non-profit sector.

You have a strong track record of collaborating and engaging with boards, able to confidently lead evidence-based grant-making that includes academic research.

You'll excel at establishing sturdy charity governance frameworks for operational efficiency and excellence.

Your talent for building strong relationships and partnerships, along with your ability to nurture and empower senior talent, will be invaluable assets.

Additionally, you'll bring a high level of emotional intelligence, backed by a thorough and nuanced understanding of the complexities of women's justice rights within the criminal justice system.
