The Finance Lead has a crucial role in assisting the Head of Finance with ensuring the effective running of the Finance department, taking responsibility for the management and oversight of the day to day operations of the Finance function of the Charity and its trading subsidiary.

To thrive in this position, you’ll need to take responsibility for the management and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the finance function of our charity and its trading subsidiary.

Key responsibilities include:
• Managing the bank relationships including bank accounts and cash positions to ensure accuracy within the CRM and finance system.
• Managing the accounts receivable, accounts payable, procure to pay and general ledger functions of the charity in accordance with the chart of accounts to ensure the integrity of the management and statutory accounts.
• Working alongside the People and Culture Team and the charity’s external payroll provider to receive, reconcile and input the monthly payroll into the finance system.
• Maintaining the charity’s investment positions and accurately reflecting the current market values in the accounts.
• Assisting with the preparation of the quarterly management accounts as well as the preparation of the annual accounts for inclusion within the annual report ensuring they are compliant with the FRS 102 and the Charity SORP.
• Being a key representative during the annual financial audit process including the production of auditable working papers to ensure audit completion.
• Managing the day-to-day finance function of the charity’s trading arm, Red Balloon Trading, including assisting with the quarterly VAT return and the preparation of the annual accounts.
• Maintaining the integrity of the charity ledger, ensuring all transactions reflect a true and accurate position of the charity as well as maintaining the records for creation of new funds, customers and suppliers.
• Delivering line management of two Senior Finance Officers. Providing guidance with all day-to-day activities, being a role model and mentor to aid their personal and professional development.
• Liaising regularly with external bodies as well as maintaining strong relationships with all departments within the charity.

The Job

Reporting initially to the COO, the Finance Manager will lead all day‑to‑day financial operations and provide expert financial advice across the organisation. AWF was established from a legacy left to the British Veterinary Association (BVA) in 1983 and was set up as an independent charity to directly support the veterinary profession, promote best practice and drive improvements in animal welfare

We are seeking an experienced charity manager to coordinate and manage the activity of the BVA Animal Welfare Foundation (AWF), which places animal welfare at the forefront of veterinary knowledge via research, education and debate.

You will have a strong track record of working with a Board of Trustees and associated committees on the successful implementation of a charity strategy, alongside an ability to lead on the implementation of a focused fundraising strategy.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise, and work to strict deadlines. Alongside experience of a variety of fundraising activities, event planning, and knowledge of charity governance, this new role represents an exciting opportunity to optimise the unique partnership with BVA and build strategic relationships with key stakeholders to raise the profile of AWF.

As our current CEO steps down after five successful years, we are looking for an outstanding candidate to lead our charity in the next stage of its development.

As Chief Executive Officer you will provide strategic and operational leadership to our well-established community charity, ensuring that our activities and projects continue to meet the changing needs of our local community.

You will work closely with the board of trustees to shape the next stage of our charity’s development. You will lead our staff team and ensure that all the resources and structures are in place that allow them and the charity to flourish. This means successfully securing grant funding, leading our community fundraising efforts, ensuring the charity meets its legal and regulatory obligations, managing the operational finances, and building effective partnerships within the local voluntary, community, and faith sector.

You will be equally comfortable writing a funding bid, supporting a member of staff, navigating a spreadsheet, working directly with beneficiaries, and providing concise and accessible reports to trustees and stakeholders. This is a varied role where no two days are quite the same. Your work will make a real difference to the lives of those we support and this is what makes it so rewarding.

We are seeking a Charity Administrator to play a vital role in ensuring that our governance, systems, and operational processes are strong and sustainable, enabling our outreach services to scale while remaining deeply rooted in the needs of the communities we serve.

About The Branch Trust

The Branch Trust is a charity established in 2020, growing out of the outreach work of St Mary’s Church, Chipping Norton. We serve communities across Chipping Norton and surrounding villages, with a particular focus on the most deprived areas of West Oxfordshire, where barriers to accessing support can prevent individuals and families from thriving.

As our work continues to expand, we are seeking a Charity Administrator to play a vital role in ensuring that our governance, systems, and operational processes are strong and sustainable, enabling our outreach services to scale while remaining deeply rooted in the needs of the communities we serve.

Role Purpose

The Charity Administrator is responsible for governance support, HR operations, organisational systems, compliance, and internal processes. The role ensures the charity’s operational infrastructure runs smoothly and supports the staff and volunteer team effectively.

Working closely with the CEO and Trustees, the Charity Administrator will maintain, update and implement robust systems, oversee administrative and organisational processes, and support the charity’s ongoing growth and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Governance and Compliance

•Ensure the charity operates within appropriate governance structures and Charity Commission requirements.

•Act as the organisational lead on statutory and regulatory compliance, including GDPR and Health & Safety.

•Work with staff and Trustees to keep charity policies up to date and ensure they are implemented across the organisation.

•Support the preparation and collation of the charity’s Annual Impact Report.

•Liaise with the Charity Commission where required.

Organisational Operations

•Oversee the internal operations and administration of IT, HR, and legal processes.

•Support the daily running of the charity, including systems, processes, and management of organisational infrastructure, working alongside the Operations Manager.

•Work alongside the Finance Manager to approve payments and expenses.

•Help establish and maintain operational processes that enable the charity to grow sustainably.

HR and Team Support

•Support recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of staff and volunteers.

•Maintain accurate personnel records for staff and Trustees.

•Contribute to the wellbeing and effectiveness of the team through strong organisational support, including Staff and Volunteer Handbooks.

•Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute to team life, including leading a time of worship once per quarter.

Data and Systems Management

•Oversee the charity’s IT contracts and liaise with the system providers regarding improvements or issues.

•Support staff in maintaining accurate data input and conduct regular data checks.

•Produce data reports as required and manage any data breaches appropriately.

•Ensure data is managed in line with GDPR and organisational policies.

•Support procurement, implementation, training and effective use of the charity’s CRM system.

Communications and Website (optional, for discussion)

•Help implement the charity’s communications strategy across the website, social media, and newsletters.

•Oversee and update website content in collaboration with external providers and the communications team.

•Assist in producing newsletters, leaflets, signage, and other communication materials.
