About the role 

 
As a Senior Financial Accountant, you'll work closely with the Financial Accountancy Manager and team to provide technical accounting support.
 
You'll work in a variety of areas covering our balance sheet and statement of financial activities, which could include charity or commercial income recognition, investments, cashflow, VAT, reconciliations and support various finance projects across the organisation. 
 
Key responsibilities include:

• Complex technical accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Contributing to financial control functions, including supplier payments and month-end processes.
•  Providing technical advice to non-finance staff and support BHF project activities.
• Supporting with our finance systems transformation project.
• Supporting with the interim external audit.

About you 
 
We are looking for a CCAB or equivalent qualified accountant. You'll have relevant experience in the not-for-profit sector, including knowledge of Charity SORP and charity tax. You'll be a proficient user of accounting systems and possess strong analytical and reconciliation skills.

Financial Accountant | Temp (Part Time) | £200 - £225 per day Umbrella Co | London | Hybrid

For a well-known charity in central London, we're recruiting an interim Financial Accountant until the end of February 2027 on a 3-4 day a week part-time basis. This role will lead on monthly balance sheet accounts, identify and correct ledger errors, and assist the Financial Controller with continuous improvements to the month-end process. The interim Financial Accountant will also support the Accounts Payable team with journals and PO system errors, reconcile payroll control accounts, and intercompany as well as sales ledger reconciliations and fixed assets.

Main Duties:

• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, intercompany accounts, Payroll controls accounts and HMRC information
• Maintain the Sales Ledger including monthly reconciliations and reporting on balances

The role

Our accountant in the East Africa office handles the day-to-day transactions — raising invoices, recording expenses and paying supplier bills. It is a varied role that combines hands-on accuracy with oversight and coaching. In practice, you will:

• Support, guide and coach our accountant so that accounting entries are made correctly and consistently, building their skills over time.

• Run payment preparation and approval process in the UK entity, approving payment runs for release by local signatories.

• Financial management of project funds: accounting, expense management, funds transfers and accurate financial reporting.

You'll oversee month-end reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, providing clear insights to inform decision-making across the organisation. Working closely with colleagues throughout the charity, you'll manage grant and restricted fund reporting, support annual planning, drive continuous improvement in financial systems and processes, and lead a small finance team. You'll also play a key role in ensuring compliance with charity accounting standards, governance requirements and best practice.

About you 

We're looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA ,CIPFA or similar) with at least five years' post-qualification experience and a proven track record in senior finance or audit roles. You'll be confident leading finance operations, managing staff, and turning complex financial information into clear, actionable insights.

You'll bring experience of charity finance, including grant management, restricted and unrestricted funds, and Charity SORP, alongside strong skills in Xero and Excel. Experience with Fathom and Raiser's Edge (or similar CRM/database systems) would be an advantage.

About the Role

About You

You will also have:

• Relevant experience within the not-for-profit sector.
• Strong understanding of and practical application of Charities SORP and FRS102 requirements.
• Demonstrable business partnering experience, preferably in a similar size organisation and business model.
• Strong financial control, management accounting and reporting experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt and influence change.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience using a range of financial reporting tools.
• Experience of using a range of accounting software (Xledger desirable).
• Good working knowledge of MS Office programmes.
• Desire to pro-actively learn about AI and its application to finance activities.
