About the Role
We’re looking for a motivated and detail-driven Finance Manager to join ESSA’s international team and lead our UK financial operations. This vital role will support both UK and global finance functions, ensuring high-quality financial reporting, audit preparation, budgeting and compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

· Preparing monthly management accounts and variance analysis

· Leading year-end and audit processes for ESSA’s UK operations

· Ensuring compliance with charity accounting standards and SORP

· Managing financial reporting for donor-funded projects, including the African Centre for School Leadership (ACSL)

· Supporting budget development, forecasting and reforecasting

· Strengthening finance systems and controls, and developing financial capacity across the team

About You
We’re looking for a qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent) with:

· At least 5 years’ experience in a finance role in a UK-registered charity

· Strong knowledge of UK charity accounting regulations and SORP

· Experience managing audits and supporting cross-border operations

· Advanced Excel and financial systems skills (AccountsIQ or QuickBooks an advantage)

· Excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate financial information clearly

· The confidence to work independently in a remote, international team

Experience working in Africa or the international development or education sectors would be an advantage.

About the role

We are seeking a technically capable, qualified accountant with strong knowledge of the Charities SORP to provide effective stewardship and oversight of the Finance function at Kinship. You will be responsible for financial controls, management accounting and ensuring the effective delivery of ‘business as usual’ financial management.

As well as producing monthly management accounts, you will be responsible for running the annual budget and the year-end processes, preparing for the yearly external audit and ensuring that the organisation complies with statutory obligations.

You will prepare papers for and attend the quarterly Finance Committee meetings and will liaise with a range of stakeholders including auditors, the bank and investment managers.  You will be the ‘go to’ business partner at the charity, supported by the Chief Operating Officer and Fractional Chief Financial Officer.

You will manage a team of two colleagues – a Senior Finance Officer and a Payroll Manager – providing them with guidance, coaching and support to enable them to perform effectively. You will also collaborate and work with Directors and senior managers across the organisation to inform them on performance against budget and conditions of funding, as well as supporting fundraising and commissioning bids. 

You will have excellent communication skills and will be able to organise conflicting priorities around the monthly management accounts cycle, while supporting the achievement of our strategic objectives. You will be flexible and adaptable in your approach to supporting transformational change in our processes and systems, as well as dealing with, and leading on, the day-to-day financial management. 

This is a broad and challenging role for a dynamic and systems-driven individual who wants to grow within the organisation, proactively problem solve and help colleagues to deliver on our mission.

Essential requirements include:

• Fully qualified ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
• In-depth understanding of accounting principles, standards and the Charities SORP, and experience of applying these in a service delivery organisation
• Experience managing a Finance function in a charity with £1-10m annual turnover
• Experience of line management and developing a team using approaches that are empowering
• Experience of Business Central, or the ability to quickly learn a new accounting system
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to use Pivot Tables and other functions to analyse large data sets

The role
 
This is an exciting role, to liaise and support partner organisations to ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and up to date, coded correctly on UH’s cashbooks and reconciled against bank statements. You will also provide technical support to partners’ finance staff and train them on the use of the cashbooks and financial reporting to UH.
 
You will be educated to degree level and have basic speaking knowledge of the French language. You will have experience in a fast-paced and complex finance role. You should have experience of working with technical accounting packages as well as experience in financial planning and monitoring.

Senior Finance Officer

14 hours per week

As our Senior Finance Officer you will contribute to Career Ready’s finance and operations function by providing high quality financial support to the charity. Working as part of a small team of three, you will perform core finance tasks and will support the Head of Finance and Operations with budgeting, reporting and auditing activities.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

Bookkeeping and Accounting

• Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into Xero Accounts
• Assist with the annual audit
• Maintain financial files and records
• Manage and reconcile the accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Process payable invoices and staff expenses in line with fortnightly payment runs
• Perform credit control for maximum debt recovery
• Reconcile the bank statements for review the Head of Finance & Operations
• Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and budget monitoring reports

Support to the Partnerships and Income Teams

• Collating financial information for funding applications as required
• Monitoring expenditure on grant-funded programmes

• To support with the administration of monthly salaried payroll for staff, and internship payroll throughout Jun-Sep each year

Essential skills and experience required

· Fully or part qualified – AAT, ACCA or CIMA or qualified by experience

Reporting to the CEO, we are looking for an experienced charity finance person, with accountancy qualifications.  (CIMA,CIPFA, CCAB, ACCA, AAT etc)

This a pivotal role and the post holder will be a member of the Trust’s Senior Management Team, with responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the Trust’s finances, working closely with CEO and Board.

Main responsibilities

· Alongside external accountant, manage the maintenance of the financial accounting system and monthly accounting processes (BACS runs, Expenses, Accruals, Prepayments, Deferred Income, Payroll etc)

· Review management accounts and liaise with accountants over variances.

· Lead on annual budget process

· Maintain and report on regular forecasts throughout the year

· Monitor individual programme funding to ensure all spend is within budget

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a friendly and reliable freelance bookkeeper or accountant to join our extended team and help keep our finances running smoothly. You’ll play a key behind-the-scenes role, working with the Senior Finance Manager to support our charity’s sustainability and activities. Student Minds is a medium sized charity (turnover approx £1m and 27 staff) and we need to make every penny work to support our student communities.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working with purpose-led organisations, and who values flexibility, collaborative working and community impact.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers.

• Process accounts payable and receivable.

• Support the invoicing process.

• Reconcile bank accounts, control accounts and company payment cards.

• Reconcile income reports.

• Prepare draft monthly management accounts.

• Prepare financial reports.

• Manage routine credit control.

• Manage the central finance email inbox.

• Ensure financial data integrity and confidentiality.

What We’re Looking For - Minimum Criteria

• Proven experience (at least 2 years) as a bookkeeper or in a similar role, ideally with charities or community organisations

• Proficiency and experience in Xero accounting software.

• AAT Level 3 qualification or equivalent.

• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

• Knowledge of financial regulations and tax procedures.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office packages, with advanced knowledge of Excel

• Grade C and above / Grade 5 and above in GCSE Maths or equivalent.

• Excellent communication skills.

Purpose of the role:
