The Role: Director of Finance

Role Specifics

The role involves reviewing and analysing monthly financial data, budgets, and forecasts to identify trends, variances, and key issues, and liaising with the wider Finance team and budget holders to ensure appropriate action is taken. You will support and educate budget holders, acting as their first point of contact for financial planning queries and contributing to training where needed. The postholder will help develop clear, insightful financial reports using Unit 4 FP&A software, incorporating user feedback and improving reporting on restricted funding. Responsibilities also include posting journals, managing financial reporting for the key funder's projects, supporting budget and forecast cycles, reviewing business cases from fundraising teams, and providing financial input on bids and project proposals. Regular engagement with budget holders is essential to drive effective management of restricted funds and support evidence-based fundraising decisions.

Our Finance Department works as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter. About the Role

As Finance and Operations Officer, you will report to the Operations and Systems Manager and act as the go-to person for day-to-day queries around finance, HR, IT, and office operations.

The Opportunity

What You'll Do

• Work with Trustees to develop and execute strategic plans that align with our mission
• Take direct responsibility for financial management, including budgeting, investment strategy, and fundraising
• Oversee and personally contribute to the development of membership systems and website improvements
• Build relationships with key stakeholders including members, committees, and international TA organisations
• Lead the delivery of our annual National Conference and quarterly magazine
• Recruit, develop, and manage our small team, fostering a positive work culture
• Ensure compliance with charity regulations and governing organisational policies and procedures
• Function as Company Secretary, handling legal requirements and annual reporting

This role sits at the heart of financial decision-making across a diverse and commercially significant portfolio generating £40m+ income annually, working largely autonomously. You’ll be the strategic finance lead for the Catering, Retail and Accommodation functions, providing key financial insight, management reporting, forecasting, and budgetary support to both central estates and service departments. Key Responsibilities:

• Business partner with senior stakeholders across the Estates and Commercial Services teams, supporting an annual budget of c.£80m.

The Holly Lodge Centre is a small charity in the heart of Richmond Park with a mission to ensure outdoor education is accessible for all. We are small but mighty, last year providing nature and heritage based education sessions, for over 7,500 learners. We specialise in delivering workshops for school groups of children and those with special educational needs and disabilities. We also welcome adult disability gorups, the elderly, and community groups.

We are looking for an experienced administrator to join our small, friendly team, and help to streamline and manage a range of processes, key to the efficient running of the charity and our activities.

Due to the nature of our work all roles are based on-site in our beautiful location in Richmond Park. The part time role can be spread across 4 days with optimal hours being 9:30am-2:30pm.

Key responsibilities include:

• Being one of the first points of contact for communication to the charity and supporting the management of school/group bookings
• Creating quotes, invoices and supporting financial administration processes
• Managing administration around individual donations
• Co-ordinating and stocktaking centre supplies
• Deputising for Centre Managers at meetings
• Supporting Volunteer recruitment, administration, training and events
