About the Role

The Head of Finance will work closely with the Management Accountant and Senior Financial Officer to ensure the integrity of the financial controls, policies and procedures of the organisation and timely, accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders. Within the business they will be a trusted advisor on areas of financial governance and reporting. You will work alongside the Director of Finance and Business Support to facilitate strategic decision making with reference to robust financial evidence.

The Head of Finance will have line management responsibilities for the Management Accountant and the Senior Financial Officer.

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Governance Adviser to join our busy Governance team.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing high level secretariat support for the end to end cycle of meetings and activity within your allocated RBL committees, sub committees and UK and overseas subsidiaries. Working in a small and tight knit team, this role supports the wide range of activities forming the engine room of RBL’s corporate governance. Reporting to and working closely with our Governance Manager, you will provide cross committee governance cover, enabling the efficient running of meetings through the year including at Annual Conference and assisting in election processes for National Officers, Trustees and Membership Council.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Arrange agendas, collate papers, attend and minute committee meetings, and liaise with Chairs of committees to achieve a high-performance governance process
- Ensure meeting minutes actions are recorded and completed in a timely fashion and are maintained on the board platform
- Work closely with Executive Directors and paper authors to ensure reports are received in a timely fashion and contain consistent quality
- Work with the Governance Support Officer to ensure the effective organisation of subsidiary and committee meetings of the Board including dates and times, venue, attendees, agendas, minutes, action logs, and the cycle of pre and post committee meetings with the Chairs
- Support the Trustees and Executive Board in the smooth running of the governance of the RBL Annual Conference by attending for the duration of the conference weekend and providing governance support in preparation for the Annual Conference

The BMA is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK.  They represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.

Reporting into the Group Financial Controller, the Group VAT Accountant will be responsible for ensuring that the BMA Group (BMA and BMJPG) properly accounts for VAT and meets their statutory return, including overseas equivalents. You will proactively ensure that the finance systems and internal processes across the group are compliant and will manage relationships with external advisors and HMRC, as the organisation’s VAT Subject Matter Expert.

To be successful as a Group VAT Accountant you'll ideally have:

About the Role

The position is permanent and part-time. It is for 3 days per week, for the right candidate. The postholder must be available to work one Saturday a month. A normal working week is 21 hours (3 days per week) to be worked between 09:30am to 5:30pm weekdays. There may be an opportunity to work from home once a week after probationary period.

The main tasks of the role include: maintaining effective communication and correspondence with our vulnerable young clients and booking appointments; overseeing and updating our case management system; administrative financial work, costs billing and creating invoices; and general administrative duties including filing, scanning, shredding, archiving, photocopying, creating e-bundles, preparing and taking post to the post office, completing forms, and requesting subject access disclosure and other information from third parties.

The role also requires the administrator to support, where necessary, the day-to-day administrative management of the office and PRCBC operations. This includes liaising with external stakeholders across a range of areas such as IT support and building management; supporting the maintenance and updating of operational procedures and practices; and completing ad-hoc administrative tasks, such as office supply procurement, as required.

To work effectively at PRCBC, it is necessary for the administrator to closely follow instructions, retain a professional approach throughout, and be highly focused and well organised, with excellent attention to detail.

Due to the varied nature of PRCBC’s work, the administrator participates in many aspects of the management, administrative and legal process, and interacts with a wide range of individuals, from solicitors and barristers to social workers and foster parents, alongside frequently vulnerable young clients and their carers. The administrator is therefore expected to manage a varied and evolving workload. The right candidate will have an initiative-taking mindset, be highly adaptable and willing and able to take initiative in daily operations.

About the Role

A core strand of the charity’s offering works to help adults build the skills, knowledge, confidence and behaviours to manage their money well. We do this by delivering Financial Wellbeing Workshops, Webinars, Specialist Programmes, Consultancy projects and through distribution of our Money Manual. The charity works with both community (charities/social enterprises) and commercial organisations to reach adults in their context of need.

Reporting to the Director of Workplace & Community Programmes and working as part of a small team, the successful candidate for this role will support the organisation and administration of our fully-funded Financial Wellbeing Workshops, our Specialist Programme for adults with Learning Difficulties, and other ad-hoc Community-oriented projects. Our Community Workshops and Programmes are delivered in partnership with organisations in a range of settings up and down the UK, with the participants being their beneficiaries or service users. The Workshops themselves are delivered by our training consultants who also undertake local outreach work to find new organisations and groups to partner with, supporting our central marketing efforts. This is a brand new role on the team to help us grow our reach as part of our new 2025-2028 strategy.

As a Portfolio Officer you will:

• Work closely with grant seekers to support them through our funding processes, assess their applications and write and present high quality assessment recommendations to our decision-making Panels.
• Manage grants using best practice, thematic expertise, and the experience of customers and stakeholders to improve our grant making and inform our decision making.
• Manage your own caseload, liaise with grant recipients, undertake project visits, identify, and manage risk and support organisations to deliver their projects and measure their impact.
• Ensure our grant management and assessment play an effective part in contributing to the Fund’s knowledge and learning as a grant maker.
• Use your critical thinking skills, curiosity, interest and understanding of our community-led mission areas to support and inform your approach to assessment and grant management.
• Be responsible for supporting people and communities across the UK, you will have a strong understanding of our vision, our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and our funding products.
• Work with stakeholders at different levels, represent the Fund at events, project visits and share learning from conversations, events, grant holder reports with the wider team so that we can maximise our impact.

How you will make a difference

As Senior Programme Officer, I will support the Head of Commercial Insight & Development to ensure Mental Health UK delivers high quality projects and programmes that:

• Meet the aims and objectives of our 2025-30 strategy.
• Are strategically aligned with the needs and expectations of our four founding charities.
• Deliver for all stakeholders, including funding partners and beneficiaries.

In this role, I will support the Head of Commercial Insight & Development to identify opportunities to grow and expand our existing programmes. I will work with the Communications and Marketing Team to identify opportunities throughout our programmes to demonstrate our impact as an organisation.

I will oversee the day-to-day delivery of projects within Mental Health UK’s portfolio, supporting colleagues across Mental Health UK and the four founding charities to ensure outputs are delivered on time and to budget, and outcomes are achieved as planned.
