The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is a unique and dynamic membership organisation which comprises 15 of the UK’s leading humanitarian agencies. 

The DEC launches appeals when there is a humanitarian emergency of such magnitude to warrant a national UK response, with most DEC funds being raised over an intensive two-week period following a disaster. DEC fundraising appeals benefit from the combined expertise of our member agencies, resulting in wide-reaching appeals across high-profile TV, radio, and an increasing number of digital channels. 

Reporting to the Head of Public Fundraising, the Direct Marketing Manager (Acquisition) is responsible for delivering key direct marketing activities during appeals for major disasters or emergencies. You will work with key suppliers and agencies to implement the offline marketing campaign (e.g. press, outdoor, DRTV and direct mail), and the Public Fundraising team to utilise a large database of supporters for communication by email, SMS, and direct mail. You will identify new fundraising channels and ideas for increasing the impact of income generation. 

As Direct Marketing Manager (Acquisition), you will: 

• Contribute to and develop DEC direct marketing strategies
• Implement the direct marketing strategies during each appeal with income maximisation and supporter acquisition as the key focus
• Manage the capturing and analysis of results to ensure channel optimisation between appeals
• Lead the benchmarking process of DEC Member Agency fundraising performance
• Line manage one Direct Marketing Officer

Person specification:

• Strong direct marketing experience with a focus on high volume donor acquisition, with technical marketing expertise across a range of direct marketing channels and demonstrable knowledge of offline marketing techniques in press, outdoor, direct mail and telephone
• A proven track record of developing effective digital and direct marketing strategies, which resulted in significant growth of income
• A key driver for success in this role is the ability to work under extreme pressure during appeals and to very tight deadlines
• Experience of managing complex budgets and proven ability to manage a complex operational plan within very short timeframes and within budget
• Ideally, you will have experience of working in the international humanitarian aid sector

Job Purpose:

The Fundraising Manager (Grants & Trusts) will be responsible for developing and implementing a successful fundraising strategy focused on trusts, foundations, and statutory grants. They will identify new funding opportunities, build relationships with funders, and write compelling applications that align with St Bride Foundation’s mission and strategic priorities.

This role is crucial in securing core funding, project-specific grants, and capital funding, enabling us to expand our heritage, learning, and community engagement programmes.

This role will be closely involved in projects that, under our new vision and mission, aim to transform SBF into a contemporary institute serving the creative industries, researchers and the wider public. The role will suit someone with a passion to take on challenges with the aim of creating a cultural hub fit for the 21st century.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Grant & Trust Fundraising

• Develop and implement a revenue and capital fundraising strategy, identifying compelling propositions and packages, and setting and securing agreed targets.
• Research and identify trusts, foundations, and grant opportunities aligned with our mission.
• Develop and manage a pipeline of funding prospects, ensuring a strategic and proactive approach to fundraising.
• Write and submit high-quality, compelling funding applications for core, project, and capital funding.
• Track and meet application deadlines, ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
• Work with the Board of Trustees to establish and manage a Fundraising Committee.

2. Relationship Management & Stewardship

• Build and maintain strong relationships with grant funders, trustees, and key stakeholders.
• Prepare engaging impact reports, updates, and presentations for funders.
• Ensure timely and effective stewardship and recognition of funders, increasing long-term support.
• Building internal relationships to developing an understanding of the work/projects and funding needs.

3. Strategy & Income Growth

• Develop and implement a trusts and grants fundraising strategy, setting targets and KPIs to maximise income.
• Work as part of the Senior Management Team to align funding applications with strategic priorities.
• Identify opportunities for multi-year funding and partnerships that provide sustainable income.

4. Compliance & Reporting

• Prepare regular reports on fundraising activities, including progress towards goals, donor acquisition, and retention rates.
• Ensure all grants and funding received are managed effectively, with clear budgeting and financial reporting.
• Maintain up-to-date records of applications, funding received, and reporting deadlines.
• Work collaboratively with the Senior Management team to ensure effective grant delivery and reporting.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

• Several years of proven experience in trusts and grants fundraising, with a track record of securing funding from foundations, trusts, and statutory bodies.
• Strong research and prospecting skills, identifying the right funders for key projects.
• Excellent writing and communication skills, able to create compelling grant applications and reports.
• Experience in relationship management, with the ability to engage funders and maintain long-term partnerships.
• Ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of budgeting and financial reporting for grant-funded projects.

Fundraising events management

• Manage delivery of the event portfolio to achieve financial and sign-up targets, delivering effective on the-day support for event participants. This includes ensuring our events are accessible for visually impaired participants

• Deliver excellent supporter care to ensure supporters are motivated to achieve (and exceed) their fundraising targets, feel valued and build engagement with us 

• Key point of contact for high level event participants and community fundraisers via face-to-face meetings, phone calls and emails – providing timely and personalised support

• Support the Events and Community Officer with enquiries, applications and registrations for challenge events, ensuring high levels of conversion, and capturing relevant supporter data 

• Support the Head of Community and Engagement, or other teams within Fight for Sight with the successful delivery of key special events, including fundraising gala dinners or receptions, virtual events and mini conferences, and third party or established supporter events.

• When required, support the Events and Community Officer in managing guest lists, enquiries, and ticket sales for special/major donor events and receptions, delivering a seamless guest experience and timely follow-ups supporter care and relationship management

Marketing 

• Oversee all paid Facebook advertising activity for events, updating web listings, and utilising our networks

• Work with the Marketing & Communications team to raise awareness/increase recruitment across all activities, highlighting case studies and media stories 

• Develop and deliver effective and engaging content, and materials for supporters to increase recruitment, retention, and average fundraising amounts

• Oversee the creation and delivery of quarterly events e-newsletter, plus additional e-blasts

Managing information and reporting 

• Work with the Database Manger to ensure accurate records within our CRM system (ThankQ) and management of income from online and offline giving

• Carry out post-event evaluations, analysing supporter data help facilitate greater levels of income

Along with the Assistant Head of Individual Giving, the Supporter Acquisition Managers are  responsible for growing the organisation’s file of donors and hitting an annual Individual Giving team fundraising target of £50 million in unrestricted income. As a direct marketing subject matter expert, they will lead cold recruitment campaigns and support in identifying and delivering new products or acquisition streams. The roles will lead on planning and project managing delivery of a variety of media channels, both online and offline. Each manager will hold strategic areas of focus, be responsible for seven figure expenditure budgets and line manage a Supporter Acquisition Officer or Executive.

The successful candidates will have significant direct marketing expertise with a strong background in project managing multiple campaigns across a range of channels, ideally in a fundraising role, and with proven success at recruiting new donors.  You will have a passion for fundraising with a commercial understanding of the charity marketplace and competitors. As well as previous experience in identifying areas of innovation and devising testing plans to launch and roll out, you will also have a track record in successfully leveraging value from data collated on supporter databases, to maximise targeting and data segmentation.

Excellent numeracy and strong analytical skills will be combined with excellent written communication abilities and a good attention to detail and ability to prioritise work. Research Programme Manager

We are pleased to be working with the the trust to recruit a new Research & Grants Programme Manager to join its small and very focused team. Working in a hybrid manner with up to two days in offices in Hammersmith, London, and the remainder working remotely from home.

The role:

Working closely with the CEO, this pivotal role will oversee the entire grant-making processes and funding activities of the trust, in addition to driving the intellectual rigor of the research work of its grantees, in line with the core charitable objectives of the trust. This will involve managing all aspects of pre and post-award research management, reporting writing, grant finance management and governance, co-ordination of the trust’s scientific committees and shaping external scientific communications to supporters and other stakeholders.

A central element of the role will be to manage the trust’s research funding initiatives, nurturing existing relationships with a broad network of high-level panels of experts and peer reviewers, as well as a wide range of stakeholders and past and present grantees. Working closely with the CEO, this person will maintain an expansive and knowledgeable view of the research landscape, understanding the important changes and influences relevant to the work of the trust. Leading on the Trust’s communications by producing social media and website content in addition to external reporting, this role will also support and manage its annual conference.
 
The person:

The successful candidate will have substantial and demonstrable experience of high-level research management in combination with an extensive grants-management and funding process management background. Educated ideally to PhD level in a scientific subject, or the equivalent in high-level research-led programme management experience, this person will be ambitious with excellent attention to detail and an intellectually curious and rigorous approach. A background in science based, research led, grant-making will be important as well as having a systematic and process driven approach. This experience would ideally have been gained in the charity sector or the higher education or grant-making sectors.

Experience of impact measurement, grants report writing and preparing content for communications and social media will be important, in addition to having an understanding of scientific research across the UK and overseas. This person will be highly numerate, organized and methodical in their approach and will see this role as a fantastic opportunity to bring creative ideas and experience to the table, in order to make a real and lasting difference in the research led field of musculoskeletal and related inflammatory diseases in the UK and overseas.

The post holder will work within our team of specialist welfare benefits advisers, as a specialist welfare benefits adviser providing information, advice, and guidance to clients in our Macmillan-funded Welfare Benefits Project, providing a welfare rights advice service to people affected by cancer to maximise their income.

Scope of role

The post holder will undertake casework, assisting clients to access their entitlements to welfare benefits and other sources of financial help. Advice will be delivered through a range of channels, including face-to-face, telephone, email, and other means, provide Welfare Benefits advice and information to people living with cancer and their families.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Case work

• Provide a full welfare benefits casework service for people affected by cancer. This includes disability benefits and other sources of financial support, such as grants and help with health and travel costs.

Welfare Benefit Appeals

• Assist clients to prepare for benefits appeals, research, and the draft was written legal submissions, and provide representation at tribunals as required.

Outreach

• Alongside other team members provide advice sessions through outreach, including at hospitals - currently St Bartholomews, Homerton, Royal London, Newham, and Whipps Cross; and at Toynbee Hall through telephone, email, and any other channel

Targets

• Meet targets as set with the line manager, which will change regularly depending on the needs of the services.

Quality Standard

• Ensure consistent quality assured advice, to AQS standard, monitored by checking casework and observations
• Maintain thorough and detailed case records for continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring, and report preparation
• Use all relevant case management systems, such as Advice Pro, as well as Microsoft Office applications, for statistical recording, record keeping, and document production. Ensure all work conforms to Toynbee Hall’s systems and procedures.
• Along with the rest of the team ensure stocks of leaflets, posters, and stationary, are ordered from suppliers and distributed to outreach locations
• Gather statistics and feedback to monitor and evaluate the service, providing reports as required to the steering group, funders, and partners.

Social Policy

• Support Macmillan Toynbee Hall Welfare Rights Advice Service’s social policy work by providing case studies and feedback on issues of concern to people affected by cancer; including attending internal and appropriate external meetings, and identifying and acting upon social policy issues

Essential Criteria:

• Strong interpersonal skills
• Recent Welfare Benefits advice work experience, particularly in the areas of health and disability, with at least one year’s specialist welfare benefits casework experience.
• Ability to write detailed accurate case records and drafts, letters reports, and statements in plain English.
• Recent experiences of working in a performance-driven environment and evidence of meeting targets set.
• An ordered and disciplined approach to managing a challenging caseload, meeting targets; planning and prioritising work in the face of competing demands on your time.
• Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with clients suffering from health problems in a professional but empathetic manner, and the ability to respond sensitively to clients.
• An understanding of the issues facing people affected by long-term illness and disability, including cancer.
• Ability to research, understand and explain complex information both orally and in writing.
• Good knowledge of IT including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Word, Outlook, or equivalents, and case management systems.
• Knowledge of or willingness to gain an understanding of Macmillan Cancer Support’s services and policies relevant to people affected by cancer.
• An ordered approach to casework and an ability and willingness to follow set procedures concerning casework and file management etc.
• Ability and willingness to support volunteer advisers.
• Numeracy to the levels required in the tasks.

The Corporate Partnerships Manager will play a vital role in supporting New Horizon Youth Centre’s mission by managing and growing a portfolio of valued corporate partners (>£20k) and supporters (<£20k). They will nurture these relationships to ensure meaningful, long-term support for our work with young people facing homelessness.

This will include organising volunteering days that inspire action, delivering lunch and learn sessions that deepen understanding of our cause, and finding creative ways for partners to make a real difference. This role will also drive new business, proactively building relationships with companies who share our values and want to help young people fulfil their potential.

In addition, they will lead on New Horizon’s events programme, developing and delivering inspiring events that connect corporate partners, high-net-worth individuals, and other supporters to the heart of our mission.

Our partner, an international charity, is looking to recruit an experienced analyst with a background in finance business partnering. The successful candidate will be joining the organisation during an interesting period, and be curious, with a strong analytical mind and ability to interpret financial information, and be articulate. 

Responsibilities

• Ensure that there is a sound understanding of business areas in terms of both present as well as forecasted performance.
• Work with budget holders on the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring that any advice/support in understanding the numbers is provided in a timely manner, and that they and senior management are supported in their decision making.
• Lead on the preparation of the quarterly forecasts.
• Undertake budgetary versus actual expenditure analysis, providing reports and meaningful information to budget holders and senior finance team members.
• Support in developing project budgets on a full cost recovery basis, and in the preparation of donor report.
• Support in undertaking grant reconciliations.
• Offer coaching and training as required.

Requirements

• Experienced finance professional, highly numerate and analytical, able to understand the business and strategic outlook of the organisation, able to interpret financial information and communicate this clearly and precisely.
• Experience in developing budgets & forecasts, and undertaking and presenting analysis, both in writing and verbally.
• Strong communication and finance business partnering skills – able to accurately and precisely communicate important financial information to non-finance budget holders, and senior management staff, challenge numbers and support in sound decision making.
• Experience of working in an international organisation, in a multi-currency environment, and with colleagues based globally.
• Experience in the financial management of grants, including developing budgets for proposals (on a full cost recovery basis), and reporting for donors is strongly desirable.

• Experience in offering coaching on internal controls & processes, budgets & accompanying analysis, and systems/IT.
