Job Title: Assistant Kitchen Manager
Reporting To: Kitchen Manager
Salary Range: £32,000 - £35,000 per annum (Dependent on experience)

Location: Felix’s Kitchen, Unit 14 Industrial Estate, Thomas Road, E14 7BN
Hours/Days per week: 37.5 hour per week, 8.5 hours per day (between 8am - 8pm). Monday – Saturday (5 days on, 2 days off). Operating hours of the kitchen are, Monday-Thursday 7:30am-8pm, Friday 7:30am-6pm, Saturday 8am-4pm. Most working days will be between 8am-6pm for this role.

The Felix Project is London’s largest food redistribution charity. Our vision is a London where good food is never wasted, and no one goes hungry. We aim to reduce the negative impact food waste has on the environment by working with the food industry to rescue high quality surplus produce, that would otherwise have gone to waste. This food is sorted at one of our four depots or turned into meals in Felix’s Kitchen. It is then distributed to over 1,200 community organisations, such as food banks, homeless shelters and primary schools, all of whom are working within communities across London to feed people experiencing hunger.

Purpose of the Job
We are looking for the Assistant Kitchen Manager to play a key role in the Kitchen team.
Felix’s Kitchen is the longest running Production site we have here at The Felix Project, the staff and volunteer team in the kitchen, turn surplus food into almost 5,000 meals a day. These meals are cooked and packed on site and then go into our network of depots and on to some of the 1,200 community organisations we support.
This role is support in the managing of the day to day running of the kitchen, its team, the food production and packing of the meals and all aspects related to these responsibilities. Assist The Kitchen Manager in all aspects of the operation and planning for the kitchen.
No two days are ever quite the same in our kitchen, we work with volunteers and surplus food this means we adapt and thrive in a fast and changing environment. This role supports and oversees the entire operation, from the kitchen and chef team to the packing room and packing team, our volunteers and engaging and organising within the wider Felix Project.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your normal duties and responsibilities will be set out in your job description. However, the charity may require you to perform other duties from time to time.
- Support all kitchen staff so they can fulfil their role
- Assist in the smooth running of the kitchen and packing area, taking a hands-on approach
- Ensure that the operation hits its agreed targets of production
- Responsible for the quality control of the cooked and packed meals, and that all correct HACCP procedures are followed
- Responsible for Health and Safety in the kitchen, food safety and record keeping and keeping all records up to date
- Oversee kitchen maintenance and cleaning
- Overseeing shift planning and the rota for the entire kitchen team
- Ordering of all food and other materials needed in the kitchen

Person Specification
This is a truly unique role, and we are looking for someone to bring their own skills, experience and flair to the role. We are looking for someone to help set and maintain very high standards in the kitchen.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is eager to continuously improve, whether this be food quality or process or working relationships. The kitchen has achieved some great successes over the last 4 years, but we are looking for someone to continue that improvement and the impact we can have across London.
Essential Criteria
- Experience in hospitality/catering management and/or kitchen management role
- Eagerness to improve processes and solve problems
- Comfortable with all aspects of H&S, Food Safety and HACCP procedures or a willingness to learn
- Demonstrable interest in food waste and/or food security
- Clear eye for detail, team player, enjoys the work they do and a strong work ethic
- Comfortable in working in a team and a larger organisation
- Strong people and management skills
- Mature and professional management style, whilst also being able to accommodate vulnerable people with care and consideration

About you and the role
The purpose of this role is to manage operational delivery of our School by School Programme, ensuring efficient and effective delivery.
You will be supported by our Chief Innovation Officer, and manage our Chef Trainers delivering our School by School interventions. You will work closely with the Director of Partnerships & Impact, our School Engagement Manager and our Research Supervisor.
Your role will oversee our School by School interventions, delivered across multiple school sites. This role will be primarily focused in London, but will include supporting schools in locations across the UK as we develop new hubs. You will be joining a dynamic and growing charity who are passionate about delivering exceptional training, skill sharing, expertise and know-how to advance the quality of food preparation, food service and food education in schools.
You will have an understanding of the context that we operate in, education and food sectors. You will have strong people skills, and the ability to manage effective partnerships with external organisations.

The responsibilities:

To work with the Chief Innovation Officer to ensure that all programme delivery of school interventions is delivered in line with our vision, values and ethos.

To support and manage our Chef Trainers to ensure that programme delivery is carried out in the most effective and efficient way.

Coordinate and oversee all programme activities, including scheduling, logistics, and resource allocation.

Working with the School Engagement Manager, attend and contribute to meetings with the Senior Leadership of prospective new schools and academies, developing proposals and financial forecasting.

Liaise and manage relationships with the Senior Leadership in the schools and academies we work with, being the key contact for operational delivery of programmes.

To ensure that service level agreements are agreed with schools and that our delivery matches the agreements.

To monitor costs of the programme delivery, reporting progress of programmes to the Chief Innovation Officer, identifying any risks or delays to programme delivery.

At all times to ensure that our school interventions are being delivered in a legally compliant, cost-effective way.

Work closely with the Chef Trainers to ensure our advice to, and work in, schools is legally compliant.

Support the Chef Trainers in monitoring legal safety compliance in schools, promptly flagging major concerns to the Chief Innovation Officer and where appropriate, the key school contact.

Ensuring learning and evaluation is embedded in our programme delivery, working with the Chef Trainers to document best practice learnt from each programme.

To work alongside the Director of Partnerships & Impact and Research Supervisor to ensure that we’re collecting accurate and relevant data to measure our impact, evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the programmes, conducting regular assessments and measurements.

Work with the Research Supervisor to support preparing reports on the impact of the School by School programmes, including statistical data, trends, and success stories.

Work with the School Engagement Manager to maintain accurate data records and ensure our contacts database is up to date with relevant chef, school lead and engagement information.

Purpose of the Job
We are looking for the Production Supervisor to play a key role in our brand-new Production team under project ‘Unit 17’.
You will be the on the ground senior leading the teams in the daily tasks to be completed, working as the connection between the management team and the team members and volunteers. Working hands on within all the production lines, leading by example and supporting the team across the operation.
This is an operational role, mainly based on the production floor but with a range of reporting and administrative tasks involved. You will report into the Production Manager and work closely with them on the day to day running of the unit as well as supporting covering their duties when they are away.
You will be supervising and supporting the teams to deliver on each day’s production targets as well as ensuring that all rules and HACCAP plans are followed correctly, providing real time feedback to the management team on any issues and resolutions taken.
More about Unit 17
In early/mid 2025, we opened our second production facility as part of the Coronation Food Project. The Coronation Food Project was set up to celebrate His Majesty King Charles 75th birthday and seeks to bridge the gap between food waste and food need across the UK.
We will be taking in surplus food from our supplier network and creating a range of products which have added value and extended shelf life. A particular focus will be seasonal produce gluts, using ingredients which we may otherwise not be able to redistribute.
Using four key processes (re-packaging, jarring / preserving, dehydrating and freezing), we will create a range of products which will be used in these three main ways:

Distributed to our partner community organisations as ‘ready to eat’ or ‘easy to use’ products for their service users - always delicious, achieving relevant safety standards and meeting the needs of the eventual end user.

Used in the East London Central Production Unit (CPU) to support creating Felix Ready Meals.

Used in Unit 17 in the creation of other products (for example frozen produce later used to make jarred sauces or preserves)
A typical day at Unit 17 will likely include planning new product/s based on the ingredients available that day, agreeing relevant food safety requirements and working in line with this, working with the production team and volunteers to prepare, produce and package delicious products, planning for future products and project work.

Background
The Food Education Network (FEN) began in 2020 as a coalition of organisations passionate about improving food education in schools and other settings to influence recommendations for the National Food Strategy.
School Food Matters is now looking for an experienced and passionate leader with skills in advocacy and communications to lead the future development of the Food Education Network and its next stage of influencing government policy around food education from early years into the secondary phase.
Main Responsibilities
The Director will build on the foundations already laid to establish the Food Education Network as a new member organisation to bring the sector together. This role will involve building close relationships with a wide range of external partners to ensure the Network is a credible voice on food education policy and is campaigning with its members to make change happen. The role will be split between governance of the network (40%) and influencing government policy (60%).
Principle Duties:
· Define and clearly present the top policy priorities around food education and take these to politicians, the media and wider world
· Build close relationships with key decision-makers to influence food education policy
· Raise awareness of food education within the educational community
· Support the steering committee to raise funds
· Grow and solidify the Food Education Network, setting out a one-year plan with clear objectives, purpose, operations and governance
· Continue to build the membership of the Network, reaching out to organisations in the food education sector who can help add to the Network’s voice and evidence

Katherine Low Settlement is a busy, local charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. We are dedicated to building stronger communities and enable people to challenge and find ways out of poverty and isolation.
We run a range of our own community services to support local older people and children, young people, and their families from refugee communities. We campaign for social change. We incubate and support other charities and social businesses to thrive. Each week we work with 30+ charities and community groups supporting more than 1,000 people.

Katherine Low Settlement has worked with older people since its conception in 1924.They are a core part of the community that we continue to work with. We provide, often in partnership, a range of projects and activities for older people including health and wellbeing; creative arts; intergenerational work; connecting people and trips/outings.
Our services include Battersea Bites, Age Well and Core social activities and digital inclusion.

Key Objectives for this Role
Oversee the day-to-day running of our Battersea Bites Programme that includes a lunch club for people 50+ that runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and a healthy eating session on Mondays. This includes leading in the planning, shopping and preparation and provision of meals, the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen including overseeing a team of volunteers and ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities
Planning
• Plan and develop a monthly lunch service menu, a month in advance, using creative license to provide nutritious, varied, and satisfying meals that meet diverse dietary requirements (e.g., allergies, cultural needs, vegetarian/vegan options) while strictly adhering to Health & Safety and food hygiene regulations.
• Develop ideas for Battersea Bites Healthy cook and eat/ other sessions with the Age Well Team.
• Handle purchases and expense tracking using the Soldo card, ensuring full compliance with the bank card usage policy, and submitting all receipts and records promptly and accurately for financial oversight and reporting, for which training can be provided.
• Create several themed menus throughout the year which will engage members. For example, a Summer Lunch, an Afternoon Tea, etc.
• Support the planning of the older people’s lunch club with older people themselves
• Support the Elders team to welcome and support new members to feel part of the programme.
Delivery
• Complete a weekly food shop either online (we currently use Asda delivery service) or locally, buying fresh ingredients weekly which fall within the financial budget.
• Prepare, cook and serve healthy meals, ensuring dietary needs are met
• Undertake stock control such as stock rotation, ensuring all food items are labelled with expiry dates and disposed of when necessary.
• Ensure all equipment is ready and set up for the lunch club service.
• Ensure the security of the kitchen and store cupboards to provide a safe working environment. (Our cupboards are locked.)
• To ensure routine day-to-day as well as specialised cleaning of kitchen equipment, work surfaces, kitchen floors and storage areas.
• Keep accurate and up-to-date records, including the health and safety folder containing opening and closing checks. Training can be provided.
• Ensure your hygiene and cleanliness are of the highest standard, and those of anyone entering the kitchen, including volunteers, are suitably dressed and uphold the same standards
• Be part of and work closely with the Elders Team at KLS
• Support elders who attend the club so that the sessions are safe and enjoyable for them.
• Inform the Manager (or in their absence the Head of Service) of any concerning incidents, compliments, complaints or accidents (including safeguarding issues).

• Take part in the monitoring and evaluation of the programme under the guidance of the Managers of the 50+ programme

OBA is different
OBA provides a hand-up rather than a hand-out. More than a Foodbank, OBA provides support for 3 months - much longer than most Foodbanks. We also provide an innovative well-being support service that helps service users address the underlying causes of their food needs. In 2024, OBA helped more than 75 households with complex underlying issues, this involved many weeks of telephone calls and meetings and helped prevent at least five families from becoming homeless. OBA also provides free preloved clothing and household goods to help service users get back on their feet.
Since 2023, OBA has its own fully funded premises off Portslade Road next to the Windrush overground station. Despite these successes, we continue to rely entirely on donations for our day to day expenses. As Foodbank Manager, you will help us secure the funding to grow our services and help even more people.

This is a new and significant role for our charity, offering the chance to contribute fresh ideas and see the direct results of your work. You’ll be joining a highly supportive, creative and digitally literate team committed to using digital innovation to help ensure every child, no matter their circumstance, has access to impactful food, farming and nature-based education.
This role involves travel and occasional overnight stays (with mileage reimbursed) across England and North Wales. While we prioritise the use of public transport this is not always feasible. Therefore, a valid driving licence is essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect and Curate Impact Content
- Create compelling, emotionally resonant stories and visual content that demonstrate our impact, working closely with colleagues to ensure all materials are brand-aligned, accessible, and consistent in tone and style.
Design Campaign Materials and Reports
- Deliver digital campaigns by tailoring communications for key donor audiences, continually testing to optimise reach and engagement.
Digital Communications Oversight
- Manage social media content in partnership with the Digital Manager, using analytics to optimise performance and identifying emerging digital trends to enhance supporter engagement and income.
- Collaborate across teams to improve supporter journeys and digital engagement, while motivating ambassadors and influencers to amplify our reach and grow income.

Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL) is seeking our next Executive Director to lead our small, dynamic charity. You will be joining an impactful local organisation at a crucial time in our development. Since 2021 we have grown significantly and sustainably, developing new services based on client needs. You will be leading a highly competent and passionate team who are community minded and experts in their fields.
The Executive Director has overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the charity, including finance and fundraising, as well as supporting the development and delivery of services. They will work with four experienced project leads to deliver and develop our core services: Casework and Advocacy Service, Rainbow Club Supplementary School, Destitution Service and Food Bank, and our Allotment of Refuge, as well as our Policy and external influencing work led by our Deputy Director for Casework and Policy.
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate who can balance the demands of strategic leadership with the operational execution and development of our services and policy work. We are seeking someone with a high level of operational skill and accountability in operational management and governance. You will be responsible for the central services of the charity including finance, fundraising, legal, HR and communications. We are looking for a thoughtful leader who is passionate about staff and volunteer support. You should have experience and understanding of small charities and the external context within which we operate.

We provide both crisis support to meet immediate need, and longer-term, flexible programmes to tackle the underlying issues that result in poverty. Casework and Advocacy – AQS and IAA accredited advice, casework and legal interventions in housing and homelessness, complex welfare rights, community care, asylum support, immigration, access to education and employment, healthcare and related matters.

Destitution Project - supporting families to overcome extreme food poverty through regular food vouchers, fresh culturally appropriate food, toiletries, and essential household items plus small grants and a free café.

Rainbow Club Saturday School - improving educational attainment, wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem, and raising the aspirations of disadvantaged primary age children.

Allotment of Refuge - a welcoming and integrated community of food growers improving the health, wellbeing and healthy food access of children and adults seeking sanctuary in Lewisham.

Immigration Project in partnership with Southwark Law Centre - free legal advice and representation to support families to regularise their UK immigration status in the UK.
In addition, we hold a monthly Members Forum, and use the evidence from our frontline work together with the testimony of our members to influence improved policy and practice.
AFRIL is currently in a good position, with the several long-term grants and statutory funding secured, and good relationships with community and individual donors. The Executive Director position represents an exciting opportunity to work with a passionate and highly competent team and the wider community to bring about real, positive change for vulnerable migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees in South East London.
