Job description

Do you want to use your media skills to make a difference in helping to end homelessness and rebuild lives? Can you work under pressure to ensure our voice is heard across the media landscape?

Our Fundraising and Communications Team plays a crucial role in telling the story of our work and its impact, building our profile, our media presence, our brand and managing our reputation; we are currently looking for a Press and PR Lead to join the team, where you will have the opportunity to influence the media to help us grow our reach and work towards achieving our vision that everyone should have a place to call home and be able to fulfil their hopes and ambitions.

The Press and PR Lead will play a key role in the team, setting and delivering our press and PR goals, working with colleagues from across the organisation to ensure our media mentions and messages are consistent with our vision, values and priorities, while constantly monitoring and evaluating to ensure our success is based on learning. The post-holder will provide leadership and line management to a small team, oversee a budget and coordinate with other teams across our communications, fundraising, campaigning and operational activity.

About you

The successful candidate will have a track record of developing and implementing successful Press and PR strategies, be experienced in handling and influencing the media agenda and adept at identifying story opportunities.

  • You will be able to demonstrate your ability to maximise coverage through reactive opportunities, be on top of the news cycle, and have experience of reputational management and crisis communications.
  • To excel in this busy role, you will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage competing deadlines and stakeholder needs in a sometimes pressurised environment.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills are essential, as you will be required to work collaboratively with; and influence people at all levels of the organisation, as well as giving clear, evidence-based advice to managers, Directors and the Executive team.

In this role you will be required to work flexibly for at least 2 days per week from our Central Office in Tower Hill, London. This allows for in person collaboration, team building, line management and other relationship building opportunities. We support a flexible approach to work with opportunities for agile working for the rest of your week; from home, or other St Mungo’s London or regional locations.
