OUR ORGANISATION

Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity funds specialist end of life care for patients with life-limiting illness, supporting their loved ones and those who care for them across West Northamptonshire.

In the last year alone the Specialist Palliative Care team had 15,923 contacts with the community of West Northamptonshire. 242 patients were cared for by the inpatient unit, and the Specialist Palliative Care Consultant recorded 1406 total contacts which equates to almost 30 per week. We also funded palliative care services for thousands of patients and their families including through Wellbeing Services, Bereavement Services, and Hospice@Home.

THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a data analyst to join our growing and dynamic team, working closely with the Finance, Supporter Care and Fundraising teams. Key areas of responsibility include extracting data from our  CRM databases (Donorflex), reviewing accuracy and translating it into meaningful insights that support the Income Generation team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Analyse donor behaviour, segment supporters and monitor retention.
• Design, build and maintain reports and dashboards using Power BI, ensuring insight is clearly presented and genuinely useful for decision-making. 
• Use of Power BI tools to extract and analyse data, to be presented to Finance, Commercialand Income Generation teams.
• Maintain and develop cross-organisational data reports, including quarterly and reports for the Board
• Produce reports, dashboards and communicate meaningful insights to inform fundraising decisions.
• Identify trends, patterns and opportunities within the data.
• Ensure data is accurate and fit for purpose.

• Proficiency in MS Office - essential
• Experience of managing large volumes of data – essential
• Experience of data analysis to a high level of accuracy and attention to detail – essential
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including confidentiality - essential
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team – essential
• Work collaboratively with a diverse team across multiple sites - essential
• Experience of using CRM databases and Power BI - desirable
• Previous experience of working within the not-for-profit sector – desirable

Our Data & Insights team at Diabetes UK empowers the organisation to make informed, impactful decisions that improve outcomes for people living with diabetes and ensure we generate sustainable income to fund it. As product owners of a new CRM system and data hub we are also guardians of our customer data (donors and people at risk of or living with diabetes).

Working within our Data & Insight team, you’ll play a key role in measuring and evaluating digital performance across our growing digital ecosystem. You’ll analyse user behaviour, identify opportunities to improve engagement and conversion, and translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations that influence decision-making across the organisation.

About the role
Key responsibilities and outcomes of the role are:

• Ensuring that management receive accurate reliable and timely information to enable decision making.
• Improved financial insight and analysis provided to organisational budget holders, which enables effective financial decision making and management of business performance by budget holders.
• Through training, education and ad hoc support, budget holders are empowered to engage effectively with financial planning (e.g. budgeting and forecasting).
• Supporting effective review of bids for and management of externally funded projects.
  

Role specifics

The role involves reviewing and analysing monthly financial data, budgets, and forecasts to identify trends, variances, and key issues, and liaising with the wider Finance team and budget holders to ensure appropriate action is taken. You will support and educate budget holders, acting as their first point of contact for financial planning queries and contributing to training where needed. The postholder will help develop clear, insightful financial reports using Unit 4 FP&A software, incorporating user feedback and improving reporting on restricted funding. Responsibilities also include posting journals, managing financial reporting for the key funder's projects, supporting budget and forecast cycles, reviewing business cases from fundraising teams, and providing financial input on bids and project proposals. Regular engagement with budget holders is essential to drive effective management of restricted funds and support evidence-based fundraising decisions.

About the team

Our Finance Department works as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter. We strive to ensure Shelter is financially sustainable in order to achieve our vision of a home for everyone. This role sits within the Financial Planning and Analysis team. We support the charity through financial reporting, analysis, and expert advice, and enable collaboration to support managers and leadership in making effective business decisions.
